The first part of a new science-fiction series （系列剧）was shown on NBC last night. Star Trek is about a spacecraft（宇宙飞船）which travels faster than the speed of light. The show is developed from three ideas about the 22nd century. First, we'll find other life forms great tools which will make amazing things possible.

  Let's think about these predictions. If we find life forms on other planets, will they be intelligent? I hope so. But we human beings might not be friendly – I don't think we'll believe in the idea of peace one hundred years from now. But this is science fiction, so we can be optimistic! And Star Trek's idea of life in the future is "communicators". And we will be ablt to have conversatins with people who are on because you'll have an electronic notebook. And if you get ill, the doctor won't have to examine you – a machine will "read" your body.  The strangest manchine includes a "teleport" which will take people to a different placein a second!

 The ideas are interesting, and in my opinion there's only one problem with star trek: the acting. The TV company （公司）will have to get better actors. If they do that, the show might be a success. If the acting doesn't improve, Star Trek won't last for more than one series. Of course, my prediction may be wrong. I can't see into the future!

①Hobbies are great ways to spend your time. Some hobbies can even change the way you see the world. Let's take painting as an example.

②When you're painting, you should pay attention to the colour. Think for a moment about what colour clouds are. Did you think white? Take a closer look at them next time. Clouds are mostly white, but the colours also include black, grey, yellow, pink and even blue. It depends on so many factors(因素), like what time of day you are looking at them, the kind of clouds or the angle (角度) you're looking at them. At sunset, you'll see many colours in clouds but you won't see at mid-afternoon.

③Painting is also a great way to notice shapes(形状). One of the easiest ways to paint faces or objects is to break them down into their relative shapes and combine them together. Everything in the world can be broken down into things like circles, squares and triangles. It's like putting pieces of a puzzle together as you're creating your painting.

④If you take up painting, you'll see more colours and shapes in the world. You'll notice small influences(影响) of colours in the evening and will be able to break anything down into their relative shapes. So everything is more beautiful than ever. In this way, hobbies introduce us to a new world.

Everyone faces difficulties in their life. Daniel Kish was born with a special eye illness and lost his eyesight when he was only 14 months old. 

Soon after, however, he started to do an amazing thing. He learned to make clicks (咔哒声) with sonar (声呐) to help him move around. Kish now moves about using sonar. He is so good at it that he can ride a bicycle by himself on public roads. And he started the organization World Access for the Blind (WAFTB) in 2000, teaching others how to use sonar. In the interview with National Geographic, he explains how the sonar works. 

"When I make a click sound, it produces sound waves. These waves reflect (反射) off surfaces around and return to my ears. My brain then deals with the sound and turns it into pictures in my mind. Each click is like a camera flash, which helps me make a 3-D picture of my surroundings for hundreds of feet. It's like having a conversation with the environment. "

Kish feels it is exciting to ride a bike using sonar, although he needs to click twice a sound, much more than he usually does. "It may sound a bit dangerous to move around the world in this way, " he says. "But most people in the world live in fear of things that they imagine. I love hiking and mountain-biking. I go almost everywhere. And I've never had an accident and hurt myself. "

He is happy to be able to help more blind children to improve their life. "We've served over 10, 000 students in nearly 40 countries, " he tells the reporter. "Many students are surprised how quickly results come. Seeing isn't in the eyes. It's in the mind. "
