When I was twelve years old, I went with my dad to his work — a car showroom. I was walking 1 carelessly and saw a poor woman with a child beside her standing outside the showroom. I saw that she was crying and went inside to tell my father. He went out and asked the woman to come into the 2. He offered her some water and then asked her what was wrong.

   The woman said that her 3 had died and she didn't have anyone else in her family who could help her. She did some manual (体力的) labor to earn some money to take care of her daughter but the child was 4 for the last three days and she was unable to go to work. Now she didn't have a grain of food to eat. While she was telling this story to my father, she was unable to control  her emotions (情绪) and started 5 again. My father and I were deeply moved by her story. 

    We got some food for her and her child. My father then took them to the nearest 6 for her child to be treated as she did not seem to be very well. On the way, we 7 her a 5kg-bag of wheat from the market. My father gave her some money before we left. The lady was so grateful.

    It is eight years later, but that event is still very  8 in my mind. My father's kindness to this woman moved me greatly and since then, I have 9 to try and walk a similar path and serve others. I'm happy to see so many other people in this world are also ready to help others when they meet people in 10. They have chosen to walk a service path also.

    There is a woman living in New York．She is heavy and tall.She doesn't have a1 ， and she doesn't make money．She is just in her2every day and never goes out．Her husband(丈夫)is a thin and short man．He3in a small station．Every Friday,the man has to give all his wages(工资)from his4to the woman，and the woman gives just a little money back to him so he can5 lunch．She never gives the man more money6she thinks her husband still keeps some money．

    One day,the small man is very happy．He comes back home7a lottery ticket (彩票)in his hand．The woman asks，"8are you so happy?""I won(赢)$1，000 in the lottery,"the man says．

    "You are9!"the woman says．Some minutes later,she asks．"How can you have money to10for a lottery ticket?"

    We were going to play against a team from a country school. They didn't come until the game time arrived. They looked1than we had thought. They were wearing dirty blue jeans(牛仔裤)and looked like farm boys. We even thought that they had never seen a basketball before.

    We all sat down. We felt we didn't 2any practice against a team like that.

    It was already so late that no3could be given to them for a warm-up(热身，准备活动). The game began.

    One of our boys 4the ball and he shot a long pass to our forward. From out of nowhere a boy in a dirty T-shirt5the pass and with a beautiful form(姿势)he shot and got two points.

    They6us. Then they got another7of points in a minute.

    Soon it was all over. The country team8us. We certainly learned that even though a team is good, there is usually another9a little better. But the important lesson learned was: One can't tell a man, or a team, by the10.

Mother's Day was coming. Sally wanted to buy her mother some{#blank#}1{#/blank#} （礼物）. Sally decided to choose one that was cheap and useful because she was still a student. 

A week before Mother's Day，Sally had a quick lunch and went to a big mall far from her home. After a long{#blank#}2{#/blank#}（一段时间） of time，she got nothing as there were few she could afford. All of a{#blank#}3{#/blank#}（突然），she found an umbrella store. Mom lost one a month ago，she thought to herself. She was attracted by the colorful umbrellas in different{#blank#}4{#/blank#}（款式） but still too expensive. After hearing her reasons，the seller{#blank#}5{#/blank#}（建议） her to buy a black umbrella and gave her a discount. "Mom might like{#blank#}6{#/blank#} （它的） special color，" Sally said and took it. 

On her way home in the tram，she felt hungry so that she went to the buffet car （餐车） for some cookies. But she discovered that her black umbrella disappeared{#blank#}7{#/blank#}（有人） must have taken it by mistake. " said three other passengers. "How about leaving your mom's{#blank#}8{#/blank#}（地址）？It will be{#blank#}9{#/blank#} （方便的） for the person to send it back when he found he took your umbrella by mistake. "

A few days later，Sally received a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} （明信片） from her mother，which said，but why did you buy me three similar black ones？"

Once, there was a big apple tree. A little boy loved to play around it. As time went by,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} little boy grew up. One day, the tree found the little boy sad while the boy  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(stand) in front of the house. "Come and play with me," the tree said. "I am not a child now," the boy answered. "I need some money {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(buy) toys." "I don't have money,{#blank#}4{#/blank#} you can pick all my apples and sell them." The boy picked all the apples on the tree and left {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (happy). 

One day, the boy returned. "Come and play with me," the tree said happily. "I have no time to play. I need to build a house for {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(I) family." " You can cut off my branches (树枝). " So the boy cut all the branches off the tree and left happily. 

Years later, the boy returned again. "My boy, I'm really sorry {#blank#}7{#/blank#} I don't have anything. The only thing left is my dying root (根)," the tree said {#blank#}8{#/blank#}a sad voice. 

"I don't need much now, just a relaxing place for me to rest. I am tired," the boy answered. 

"Good! Now my root is {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(good) place for you. Come and sleep." The boy {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(sit) down and fell asleep. The tree smiled and looked at the boy with deep love.
