Years ago, I celebrated my 40^th birthday with friends in a 1 restaurant. Many arrived earlier and waited outside the restaurant, as I was on the roadside, a homeless man came near to me and 2money. I let him know I didn't have any cash (现金)with me. With a quiet smile on his face, he moved on.

    Just then a friend arrived and called out, "Happy Birthday!" Hearing this, the man turned and asked, "Hey, man, it's your birthday？""Yes, "I said. He walked 3, smiled and said, "Happy Birthday!" I was not 4 ready for what happened next. He took out a dollar from his dirty bag, and gave it to me, saying, "Here man, take this. Happy Birthday! "That's 5. I expected he was making a joke!

    Although I 6 deeply by his generosity (慷慨), accepting money from a homeless man was embarrassing for me. I felt very uncomfortable. 7I replied, "Thanks, but…"Looking directly into my eyes, he said, "God, so good to me Every night, I always end up with a place to sleep and enough food to eat. Please take this. "I held out my hand-8 thinking twice, saying," thank you"

    This was one of my9 life lessons— however poor we may feel, we always have something valuable to share with others. From then on I often helped people in need and treated everyone with kindness and 10, spreading love and joy everywhere I went.

    Last night I was driving from Harrisburg to Lewisburg, a 1of about eighty miles. It was late and I was in a hurry. However, if anyone asked me how fast I was driving, I'd say I was not over-speeding (超速). Several times I got2 behind a slow-moving truck on a narrow road, and I was holding my fists tightly with impatience.

    At one point along an open highway, I 3 a crossroad with a traffic light. I was alone on the road by now, but as I got near to the light, it turned red and I braked to a stop. I looked left, right and behind me. Nothing. Not a car, no suggestion of headlights, but there I sat, waiting for the light to4, the only human being for at least a mile in any5.

    I started6 why I refused to run the light. I was not afraid of being fined, because there was obviously no policeman around, and there certainly would have been no7 in going through it.

    Much later that night, after I8 a group of my friends in Lewisburg and climbed into bed near midnight, the question of why I'd stopped for that light came back to me. I think I stopped because it's part of a contract (合同) we all have with each other. It's not only the 9, but it's an arrangement we have, and we trust each other to10 it: we don't go through red lights. Like most of us, I'm more likely to be11 from doing something bad by the social conventions (社会习俗) that stand by it than by any law against it.

    It's amazing that we ever trust each other to do the right thing, isn't it? I was so12of myself for stopping for the red light that night.

Last Saturday, Du Juan came to a park with her red chair and tools(工具) as usual. She put a sign saying "1 Haircuts"on the ground.Then an old man came and sat down.

Du Juan and the old man talked2 like old friends.The old man said he was going to3 his son's birthday party.

Twenty minutes later, "OK,done".said Du Juan.The old man looked at himself in a mirror（镜子）and4 her.

So far Du Juan has5 such free haircuts to people around the city.All began because of an illness.It make her thick hair very6 .After that, she was afraid to have her hair cut until she met Bob,a skilled barber（理发师）. "He talked with me kindly, and it makes me 7 .He changed my look,and more importantly,he changed me,"Du Juan said.

 "I learned the haircut8 and later became a barber."she said.During her free time,she not only gave people free haircuts,but also made them feel happy. "I can't make their9 go away,but I can help them feel less lonely for a moment."she said.

Duan Juan believes simple acts of10 such as a free haircut,can make a difference. "The way you show up in the world is important,"she said.

Today is Grandma's 85th birthday.

"I'm giving her a photo," says Brian."I took it with my new camera (照相机). {#blank#}1{#/blank#}" he asks his brother Joey.

"I don't know." says Joey."I don't have a camera. So I can't take a picture."

"I can't make cakes. I don't know how." says Joey.

Joey goes to the living room. His dad is sewing (缝) a blanket(毯子)."{#blank#}4{#/blank#}" Dad said.

Joey then goes and sits next to Grandma on the sofa." Everyone has a gift for you, but not me. I can't take a photo, make a cake or sew. I don't have anything to give you." says Joey.

Grandma put her arm around Joey." {#blank#}5{#/blank#} That's what you can give me," says Grandma.

Joey smiles." Happy Birthday," he says.

The world's top three food plants are rice, wheat and corn. People around the world eat them {#blank#}1{#/blank#} different ways. In East Asia, people have rice {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(noodle). And bread is the main food in Europe. So I think the plants as main food play {#blank#}3{#/blank#} important role in our lives. 

Besides working as main food, plants can also influence the climate. Take the Great Bear Rainforest in Canada for example. It's sunny now, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} please take a raincoat if you want to visit there. It may rain later because the trees in the rainfo rest can make {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(they) own rain. Those trees can live for {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(thousand) of years. Most {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(important), they can form the clouds at the top of the trees. Water {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(come) into the air from the leaves and forms rain.
