When we think of Christmas, we probably think of 1  , Christmas trees and Santa Claus. But behind all these things lies the true meaning of Christmas: the importance of sharing and giving love and joy to people around us. The story in A Christmas Carol is perhaps the best example of this.

A Christmas Carol is a famous short novel written by British writer Charles Dickens (1812-1870). It is about an old man 2 Scrooge who never laughs or smiles. He only thinks about himself and is3 to share things with others. He doesn't treat others nicely. He just cares about whether he can 4and he hates Christmas. One Christmas Eve, Scrooge sees the ghost of Jacob Marley, his dead business partner. Marley used to be just like Scrooge, so he was 5 after he died. He warns Scrooge to change his ways if he doesn't want to end up like him. He also tells Scrooge to expect 6 ghosts to visit him.

 That  7 , the ghosts visit Scrooge. First, the Ghost of Christmas Past takes him back to his childhood and reminds him  8  his happy days as a child. Then the second ghost, the Ghost of Christmas Present, takes him to see  9  others are spending Christmas this year. Everyone is happy, even poor people. The last one, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, takes him to the  10 . Scrooge sees that he is dead, but nobody cares. He is so  11 that he wakes up in his bed and finds out it is only the next morning — Christmas Day!

 Scrooge decides to change his life and   12 to be a kind person. He  13  celebrates Christmas with his relatives. He also gives gifts to people in need. He now treats   14  with kindness and warmth, spreading love and joy everywhere he goes. And that is the true   15 of Christmas!

Like two different worlds

    I come from London, a very big city! Over 81people live there, and it's always busy with tourists. So moving to a little town2only 15, 000 people is a big change for me! I am living in a little town in the countryside in Germany now.

    In the countryside, the towns are 3so everyone knows each other. At home in London, I don't even know my neighbours! Another nice thing about the countryside is that it's very green and there's lots of fresh air. I like nature, and it's nice to see4the seasons change the trees. My favourite thing about living in the countryside is that I can see thousands of 5 at night. At home I can hardly see any! That's because there's 6light in the city, but here everything is dark and the stars twinkle in the sky.

    One thing I do like about living in a city is that it's7to travel. We have the subways, buses and trains, and we even have buses that run all night. Here, the last train is before 9 pm, and there's only one an hour!  Another good thing about cities is that there are lots of 8, so you can usually find what you need. In my town here there aren't many shops, 9I have to go to the nearest city!

    I always thought I was a city girl, but now I like the countryside too. They are like two different worlds, but10feel like home!

    Frank is a small schoolboy. His school has so many rules for 1. He doesn't like any of them because he thinks they are all 2."The school asks us not to do this 3that. I'm not happy about it," He often says.

    Frank can swim. He always wants to 4how good he is at swimming. One day he comes to the lake in his school. There is a school rule about this lake: Don't 5in it! Frank doesn't like the rule and he jumps into it.

    When he is in the lake, he finds he is 6. The lake is so deep and the water in it 7very dirty. He feels terrible and can't swim well in the lake. He needs 8 The two teachers come and help 9out of the lake. From that day on, he knows it's important to 10the school rules.
