My mother only had one eye. I never wanted her to show up at my school.

One day during primary school, I was terribly ill. My mother came.

“Your mom only has one eye!” yelled some of my classmates. I wished my mother would have just disappeared (消失)

“If you embarrass (使……尴尬) me, why don't you just die?” I shouted at her, taking no notice of the sad look on her face. My mother just handed me some medicine and left without saying anything.

At that time, I didn't think I had hurt her feelings very much. That night I saw my mom crying in her room. Even so, I hated her tears from one eye. I made a decision: I must study hard and leave my mother.

Years later my dream came true. I was quite successful. I never thought of going back to see my “ugly" mother until one day I got a letter.

“My son ，I'm sorry I only have one eye. When you were little, you got into an accident and lost your eye. As a mom, I couldn't stand watching you live with only one eye. So I gave you mine.

I was never angry with you and I never regretted it because I love you.”

I cried out aloud. Only then did I realise how beautiful my mother was!

    Mr. Smith is a teacher. He is near-sighted（近视的）. But he doesn't wear glasses. One day, he is walking in a street. He is thinking something. Suddenly a strong wind blows his cap off his head. Mr. Smith runs after it.

    He wants to catch it but he can't. At this time, an old woman from a door of the house says to him,

    "Hi! What are you doing, sir?"

    "Running after my cap."

    "Your cap? Aha… that's my black cat," she says.

    "Your cat? Sorry, but where is my cap?"

    Robert was a greedy（贪婪的）man. One day, he lost 30 gold coins. He went to his friend Mike's house and told him how he lost his gold coins. Mike was kind and decided to help him find them.

    The next day, Mike went to Robert's house and told him he found his 30 gold coins.

    After counting the gold coins, Robert said, "I had 40 gold coins. The of them are missing. You must have taken them. And you should pay me back."

    "No, I didn't take them, "said Mike.

    Robert went to court（法庭）and told the judge（法官）what had taken place between him and his friend.

    "How many gold coins did you find?" the judge asked Mike.

    "Thirty, "answered Mike.

    "How many gold coins did you lose?" the judge asked Robert.

    "Forty, "answered Robert.

    "Then those coins are not yours, "said the judge, "for you lost 40, while your friend found 30."

    Then the judge told Mike to take the 30 gold coins home.

    "If anybody reports that they have found 40 gold coins, I will send them to you, "the judge told Robert.

    Then Robert said that he didn't tell the truth and that he lost 30 gold coins, but the judge did not listen to him.

    Always be honest; dishonesty never pays.

Mrs. Morris lives on the top floor of our building. Every afternoon，she sits in a chair near the door of1 building. She always wears a smile and listens to me when I tell her about my days at school. 

One Tuesday，I ran into the building and hoped 2 my day with her，but her usual chair was empty. 

I looked for Mr. Low and asked what3 to Mrs Morris. "Oh，dear. Mrs. Morris is not feeling well 4 she is staying in bed today. "Mr. Low said. I wondered what I could do to make Mrs. Morris feel better.

I arrived home from work, but my mind was still busy. I was going to perform a very important experiment, but I had spent the whole day worrying about it. And I wanted to shake off my worries very much. So after dinner, I made a cup of hot chocolate, sat on my sofa, and opened a page. Almost at once, my mind left behind the experiment and went into a wonderful world different from my daily life. It was exactly what I needed.

 Growing up, I was actually never a big fan of novels. My classmates would be crazy about the latest novel, while my copy sat collecting dust on a bookcase. Instead, I would choose to read through the books about school lessons. After I started graduate school, extra reading didn't interest me at all, but I spent most of my time at school working on research papers and my mind couldn't process nonfiction(非小说类纪实作品) books at home. So I knew that I needed to find a way to enjoy reading again.

 To help me stick to it. I made a New Year's resolution: I would read two fiction books per month. The result was that I loved fiction almost at once, along with many unexpected results including ones that are good for my schoolwork.

★some of the best books I read were historical fiction books. I learned life in different countries, as well as challenges which people there faced during difficult periods in their histories. The books have helped me build sympathy and understanding, with an unexpected advantage: I' ve started to think more deeply about the different types of the scientific problems in my study and could se rve them with all my heart.

Harry loves to travel. He left 1 home in Beijing when he was eighteen years old. He never spent more than 6 months in any countries. For the first two years, he travelled around Asia. 2 he went to Europe, where he visited ten different countries in three years. He 3 now in South America, travelling across Brazil（巴西）.
