Canadian Geese are large blue and white birds. When autumn comes, they have to fly south where the weather is warmer. The winters are so cold in Canada that the birds will die if they stay there.

    Last spring, Bill Lishman found sixteen young Canadian Geese on his farm. They had lost their parents. Bill thought, "These young birds won't know what to do in the autumn." He had a small plane and he decided to teach the birds to follow him. All through the summer, he went on short trips in his plane and the young geese flew after him.

    When the cold weather arrived in the autumn, Bill flew to Virginia in the United States, 600 miles south of his home in Canada. The geese followed him all the way. Bill left the geese in Virginia and he returned home.

    This spring, Bill was waiting for the birds to come back. They didn't arrive, so Bill flew to Virginia to get them. He looked for them for two weeks, but he couldn't find them. When he arrived back home, he found the geese waiting for him. They had found their way home without him!

    One day, a rich boy bought a magic mirror(魔镜). When he got home, he looked in the mirror. His face looked sad. He tried to smile and make funny faces. His face looked still sad. Then he did many happy things, but his face always looked sad.

    "Oh, what a terrible mirror! It doesn't work！"he said angrily.

    The next day, on his way to buying some chocolate, he saw a little girl crying sadly. The rich boy went up to her and asked what had happened. The little girl said she couldn't find her parents. "Don't worry. I'll help you，"the rich boy said. So they went to look for them together. Finally, they found her parents. They were so thankful for his help. After the rich boy arrived home, he looked in the mirror as usual. To his surprise, his face looked very happy. The boy understood the magic of the mirror. The mirror could show the true feelings of its owner.

    This was true—the rich boy had helped that little girl so he felt really happy.

    Hello, everyone! I'm Mike. I live in Beijing with my parents. I'm in Class Two, Grade Seven at Beijing International School. I'm looking forward to the busy weekend. All the students in our class are going to Tian'anmen Square to watch the flag­raising ceremony(升旗仪式) on Saturday morning.

Garfield (加菲猫) first appeared in a comic strip (连载漫画) on June 19, 1978. Garfield is famous as a cartoon hero. Garfield products are {#blank#}1{#/blank#} in many countries. 

Jim Davis created Garfield. Jim was born in 1945 in India. He grew up {#blank#}2{#/blank#} on a farm. His dad kept sheep. Jim and his brother Dave helped with the farm work. They had 25 cats. Their room was always full {#blank#}3{#/blank#} food for the cats. 

As a boy, Jim was in poor {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. When he had to spend time {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a rest, he drew pictures to make his life {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. In 1969, he got a job to help a cartoonist. Jim found that there were many comic strips about dogs but few about cats. He couldn't believe it {#blank#}7{#/blank#} there were so many cat lovers. 

He remembered the 25 farm cats he grew up with. They {#blank#}8{#/blank#} him lots of ideas for a cat comic strip. In the comic strip, Garfield became the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} role. Jim Davis has received many {#blank#}10{#/blank#} for his work.

Florence Nightingale was a nurse and the founder of modern nursing. Her parents gave the name for her because she was born in Florence, Italy. She liked visiting sick people and helping them,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} she often went to the hospitals. She decided to become a nurse so that she could help more people in need. 

In 1853, the Crimean War broke out. She chose to go to a British military (军事的) hospital {#blank#}2{#/blank#} she could take care of the wounded soldiers. What she saw there was terrible, because it was very dirty in the hospital. 

She {#blank#}3{#/blank#} hard so that she could make the hospital clean and save many soldiers' lives. In 1859, Florence wrote several books about nursing so that she {#blank#}4{#/blank#} start the first training school for nurses later. On 13th August 1910, she died. 

Florence Nightingale was a great hero in a special way {#blank#}5{#/blank#} she set a good example for the women in the world.
