The Internet, mobile phones and Ipads are part of our lives now. Technology is greatly affecting all ways of our lives, from the ways we work to the ways we play. And it even causes a number of social problems such as cloning humans.

    We have had lots of technology and it has changed our lives a lot. There is no doubt that humans will continue to use more and more technology. Here are some examples of modern technology that will change our ideas and will affect our lives greatly.

    Global positioning system(GPS)(全球定位系统)

    It's a system that uses radio signals from satellites to show exact(精确的) information. It tells you where the user is on the earth in all weather conditions. It's made up of three parts: satellites, control equipments(设备) on land and receivers.

    Space Technology

Russian and American scientists have worked together for the international Space Station(ISS) for a long time. They hope the ISS will provide a long-lasting lab. Such a lab will bring humans limitless(无限的) advantages. It's even hoped that one day spare technology will take humans to their new houses in space.

    Underwater Robot

Hercules is a kind of underwater robot with some high technology equipments. It will be used to search for ancient ships which were destroyed into the deep sea during their journey long ago.

The world is changing so quickly that it's hard for us to catch up with all the new inventions because they seem to come out every month. It's important for us to learn about new technology and the role that it plays in our lives. So we should be willing to accept modern technology, or we will fall behind the times.

      We are all busy talking about and using the Internet ,but how many of us know about the history of the Internet?

      Many people are surprised when they find that the Internet was set up in the 1960s.At that time, computers were large and expensive. Computer networks(网络)didn' t work well .If one computer in the network broke down, then the whole network stopped. So a new network system(系统) had to be set up. It should be good enough to be used by many different computers. If part of the network was not working, information could be sent through another part. In this way the computer network system would keep on working all the time. At first, the Internet was only used by the government, but, in the early 1970s, universities, hospitals and banks were allowed to use it too.

    However, computers were still expensive and the Internet was difficult to use. By the start of the 1990s, computers become cheaper and easier to use. Scientists had also developed software(软件) that made “surfing(浏览)” the Internet more convenient (方便).

    Today it is easy to get on-line and it is said that millions of people use the Internet every day. Sending e-mail is more and more popular among students.

   The Internet has now become one of the most important parts of people's life.

    Do you think you're green? You're a totally modern citizen, aren't you? You keep your bottles and take them to the bottle bank. You have a black bin and a green bin, one for general waste and one for recyclable waste. Your car uses lead—free petrol. You use the same plastic bag every time you go to the supermarket. Maybe you even cycle to work from time to time. You are playing your part; you are green and environment—friendly. Well, I've got news for you:

    YOU ARE NOT DOING ENOUGH!

    On average every person in the UK throws away their own body weight in rubbish every seven weeks.

    Every year, the average dustbin contains enough unused energy for 500 hot baths, 3,500 hot showers or 5,000 hours of television.

    If all the aluminium drink cans sold in the UK were recycled, there would be 14 million fewer full dustbins per year.

    Just one recycled aluminium can saves enough energy to run a television for three hours!

    At Christmas over 83 square kilometres of wrapping paper is thrown in the bin.

    Almost three billion nappies (used for baby) are thrown away in the UK every year. 90% of these are buried and take hundreds of years to disappear.

    Have I made you believe that you need to do more? No? OK, here are one or two more facts.

    Recycling just one plastic bottle saves enough energy to power a light bulb for six hours.

    Collecting dustbins and cleaning streets costs ￡1. 6 billion per year.

    Surely you must believe me now. You need to do more. The good news is that there is some— thing else you can do.

    On April 2, we said goodbye to Tiangong I, China's first space lab. According to the China Manned Space Agency (中国载人航天), Tiangong I re-entered the Earth's atmosphere (大气层) and some of its debris (碎片) fell into the South Pacific Ocean.

    There are many spacecraft (宇宙飞船) that are still in orbit

     (轨道) above the Earth. After finishing their trips, they will all re-enter the Earth's atmosphere like Tiangong I.

    There are two types of re-entries: controlled re-entry and uncontrolled re-entry.

    Some satellites and manned spacecraft come back to the Earth in a controlled re-entry. Experts calculate (计算) the path of the falling spacecraft and its speed. Thy can guide the spacecraft to fall in a chosen area.

    Some spacecraft may have problems while in space after a certain amount of time. These spacecraft come back in an uncontrolled re-entry. It is hard to tell when and where these spacecraft will fall until the last few hours. The US space station Skylab came back partially uncontrolled in 1979. Parts of the station fell in western Australia, but no one was hurt.

    During re-entry, most of the spacecraft will burn up while passing through the Earth's atmosphere. Only a small amount of the debris will reach the ground. The debris typically ends up falling into the ocean, China Daily reported.
