Lidong usually comes on November 7 or November 8 every year. It is the Chinese word for one of the 24 solar terms(节气). It means the beginning of winter.

    As the weather gets colder and there is less sunlight, people might get sick easily. According to scientific research, adults usually have two to four colds each year, while young children suffer from six to eight colds each year, especially in winter months. One of the best ways to keep healthy during winter is to stay warm.

    There are many ways to stay warm. A living room should be around 18-21℃, and you can also use a hot water bottle to keep warm. Getting plenty of exercise is always a good idea to keep your blood moving. Food gives us energy and helps to warm us from the inside. Add some things to your winter dishes, such as pepper, ginger, and garlic. These things can make you warm. A winter coat warms you up from the outside. Add several layers(层) of thin clothing, for example, a shirt and a thin sweater, to stay even warmer. Clothes made from wool are usually very warm.

    How can you make winter days colorful? Is it too cold to play outside? Don't worry. Here are some tips for having fun at home. Give it a try!

    Enjoy a movie with your parents. There are a lot of choices, such as Spy Kids. You can also talk about the movie with your parents after it's over.

    Cook a meal with your parents. You can cook some simple dishes, such as eggs with tomato. You may need your mother's help for the first time.

    Read your favorite book. Reading is not only helpful for your writing ability, but can also help to build your character.

    When you watch TV and play video games you make global warming(全球变暖) worse! To make electricity, fossil fuels(矿物燃料) are burned in big factories. But burning fossil fuels also makes greenhouse gases. This means that every time you use electricity you help make global warming worse!

    Cars are also making global warming worse. They burn fossil fuels in their engines, and send lots of greenhouse gases into the air.

    So what can we do to stop global warming?

    Try to use less electricity. First, turn off lights, your television, and your computer when you stop using them，You could also try to watch less TV. But you may find it hard to do these! Second, plant trees. Not only is it a fun thing to do, but it is also a great way to lower the number of greenhouse gases in the air. Trees take carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) out of the air when they grow. Last, don't throw away your rubbish, but try to recycle it. Because if rubbish is not recycled, it rots(腐烂) and makes a greenhouse gas called methane(甲烷). So try to recycle cans, bottles, plastic bags and newspapers. It'll make you feel great! And it'll help the Earth.

My name is Qin Lan. My home town is in Gulangyu Island. Do you know Gulangyu Island? It is in Xiamen. Gulangyu Island is a small place, but it is very nice and clean. There are no cars, no buses and no bikes. People only walk. So it is very quiet. 

Our house is in the middle of Gulangyu Island. It is near the sea. Behind our house, there is a big old tree. My grandfather tells me that the tree is very, very old. There are many birds in the tree. We call it "bird tree". The sea is big and blue. There are a lot of fish in the sea. After school, I go there and watch fish swimming with my friends. It is very interesting. I like fish and I also like watching fish swimming. 

Travel and tourism(旅游) are very important to millions of people all over the world. It's important to some countries too. They need the money from tourism to help their people live better. 

However, travel and tourism cause many problems. Planes, buses, boats and other ways of transportation that carry travellers and tourists cause pollution. Moreover, some people do things on holiday that they would never think of doing at home. For example, many travellers use a lot of water and electricity when they stay in hotels. They forget to turn off the lights or even leave televisions and air-conditions on when they leave the room. That's why it is important for people to travel wisely and respect(尊重) the places they visit. 

There are ways you can travel and be environmentally friendly. Here are some tips to help you. 

●Don't throw rubbish anywhere. Use bins(垃圾桶). Don't throw anything into the sea, especially plastic bags. Every year many sea animals die because of plastic bags. 

●Don't waste water or electricity. Many parts of the world have not got enough water. 

●Don't buy any products made from endangered animals. 

China's Colorful"Dead Sea"

 Xiechi Lake(解池), also known as Yuncheng Salt Lake in China's Shanxi province, has become popular on Instagram and other social media websites in recent years because of eye-popping aerial photographs of its colorful surface.

 Now, China wants to convert that online popularity into real-life tourism. The first step is to advertise it to Chinese domestic travelers.

 Recent tourism campaigns on Chinese social media sites including Weibo and WeChat refer to Xiechi as"China' s Dead Sea" and promote both its beauty and its healing properties(特性).

"It's the Chinese version of Israel's Dead Sea. Floating here is an unforgettable experience, and one you can't find anywhere else," reads a tourism ad. One honor stands out as a sign of the lake' s endorsement(公开支持) at the highest levels: Xiechi Lake was featured in a 2019 Chinese TV special celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

 How was this wondrous lake formed? You might ask. There are three kinds of salt lakes in the world: carbonate(碳酸盐), chloride(氯化物) and sulfate(硫酸盐). The Dead Sea and the Great Salt Lake in Utah are both chloride lakes. Yuncheng, however, falls into the last group.

"If the sulfate in your water is greater than the calcium (钙), all the calcium is used up, which leaves you with an excess of sulfate, and then you have a sulfate lake," explains Bernie Owen, a geography professor at Hong Kong Baptist University.

 Xiechi is also a"closed basin" lake. It doesn't flow out to a river or ocean, which explains why its salt content is able to stay so high.

 But what about those gorgeous colors that have made the lake so popular with photographers? They have to do with the species of animals and plants living in the water.

"If you' ve got brine shrimp(卤虫) in the water, you tend to get red colors," says Owen. "There's a microscopic animal called a rotifer(轮虫), and that will give a purple color.[You also] tend to get purples with green algae(绿藻类). And then greens or oranges[occur] in very saline(咸的) lakes."

 Besides the scenery, the mud bath is a big draw. According to a statement from the Yuncheng city government, the black mud in the lake has restorative properties-just like Dead Sea mud.

 There's some good news for wannabe travelers who hope to visit Xiechi Lake— it isn't yet as popular or crowded as other tourist spots in China.
