Recently, I happened to hear a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport as the daughter prepared to leave.

They hugged and the mother said "I love you and I wish you enough."They kissed and the daughter left.

    The mother walked over to the window where I sat. Standing there, I could see she was going to cry. I tried not to disturb her but she welcomed me by asking "Have you ever said goodbye to someone knowing it would be forever?"

  "Yes," I replied. "But may I know why this is the final goodbye?"

  "I am ill and she lives so far away. It's highly possible that the next trip back will be for my funeral(葬礼)"she said.

  "When you were saying goodbye, I heard you say 'I wish you enough'. May I ask what that means?"

  "That's a wish that has been handed down from past generations. My parents used to say it to everyone." She paused for amoment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled evenmore.

  "When we say 'I wish you enough', we want the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to bewith them". Then turning to me, she shared the following:

  "I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright."

  "I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more."

    Charles Dickens was an English writer. He was born in 1812. He created some of the world's best-known characters and many readers think he is the most important writer of the Victorian era (1837-1901). Some of his famous novels are Oliver Twist, David Copperfield and Great Expectations. Most people in his novels lived in London.

    In 1824, Dickens' father went to prison(监狱) because he couldn't pay money to someone. In those days, a man's wife and young children went to prison with him. Charles was 12, so he left school to work in the prison. Life was hard, and a lot of children worked in those days. Dickens' own experience helped him to write about poor children without a mother or father. Dickens' success began with the publication (出版) of The Pickwick Papers in 1836. And his book Oliver Twist is about a boy without father. Important people were more interested in the problems of poor people after reading Dickens' books.

    Dickens' novels are often very long and he wrote them in different parts for a newspaper each week. His novels have a lot of exciting and sad things in them. He wanted his readers to buy the newspaper every week. And the readers wanted to finish the story! Dickens' novels are popular because many of his stories are about social(社会的) problems and family life. Dickens was successful in writing and he has been praised by other writers for his style and characters.

    Mr. Zhang and Mr. Wang work in the same office. They're good friends.Mr. Zhang says to Mr. Wang in the office,“I would like to have a small party in my home on Sunday evening. Would you and your wife like to come?”

    Mr. Wang says,“Thanks a lot. I'd like to. Let me tell my wife about it.”So Mr. Wang goes to the other office and calls his wife. About half an hour later, he comes back and looks very worried.

    “What's up?” asks Mr. Zhang,“Is your wife at home?”

    “No,” says Mr. Wang.“She isn't at home now , but my little daughter is in .My little daughter says her mother goes out to look for her.”

    There are three brothers in the pop group "The Bright Shiners"：Harold Fisher, Roger Fisher and Dove Fisher. Harold is the boy who formed the group a year ago and he is the leader now. He plays the piano. Roger plays the lead guitar and Dove is the drummer. Then there is Pete Lennox, their cousin. He is the only member of the group who has had much experience. He played the guitar and sang with "The Tower of London" for three years. Alex Clark and Clive Hicks play the trumpet(喇叭). Robert Lester is the boy who has helped the group most. He was born in Chile and he can play five different Andean instruments. Geoffrey Baker plays the harp(竖琴). Bill Blake isn't a musician, but he is an important member of the group. He looks after their electronic equipment.

    In ancient China, a woman told the best stories. She married an emperor(皇帝).Sadly, one day, this woman became ill and died. Everyone thought the emperor would soon find another favourite among his wives, but the emperor was very sad. He spent more and more time in his garden, and less and less time caring for the needs of his people. Everyone in the kingdom was worried.

    One day, a priest(牧师)passed when some children were playing with their dolls. The dolls made dancing shadows on the wall. This gave the priest an idea. He knew the stories the emperor's wife used to tell. What if he could bring those stories to life？

    The priest made a puppet(木偶)out of bits of clay(黏土).He painted the puppet to look somewhat like the emperor's wife. When the puppet was finished, the priest silently walked into the emperor's garden, carrying his puppet, a candle and a curtain. He placed the curtain near the emperor's chair. He placed his candle, his puppet and himself behind the curtain. He waited for the emperor to appear.

    The emperor did not even notice the curtain at first. The dancing shadow drew his eyes. As the priest moved the puppet behind the curtain, he told wonderful stories as the emperor's wife. It seemed as if his wife had been spending time with him. The emperor was no longer sad. At the end of each busy day, the emperor went into his garden to visit his shadow wife and hear her stories once again. That is how shadow puppets first began.
