Once there was a father and a son. They were ill-tempered and never gave way to 1.

    One day the father decided to ask some friends to dinner in his house. He 2his son to buy some meat in town. When the son got what his father wanted, he turned 3 and walked towards the town gate. Just then a man was coming from the outside. The gate wasn't 4enough to let two men in and out at the same time. But 5of them would give way to the other. They 6straight face to face inside the gate hour after hour. But the father was worried. "What shall I do? My son hasn't 7yet. I can't wait any longer." He wanted to know what was the 8with his son. So he left his friends at home, and he himself went to town to look for his son.

    "You may first take the 9 home for my friends. Let me stand here against him10." He said to his son when he knew what had happened.

    She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal Mart. She must have been 6 years old. It was 1outside. We all just stood 2the door of the Wal Mart. "Mom, let's run through the rain," she said with a 3 voice." What? "Mom asked." Let's run through the rain! "She repeated." No, honey. We'll wait until it 4 down a bit." Mom replied.

    This young child waited about 5 minute and repeated, "Mom, let's run through the rain."

    "We'll get wet if we do," Mom said. "No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said." This morning? 6 did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?" "Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If God can get us 7this, he can get us through anything! "

    The entire crowd became dead silent. I dare say you couldn't hear anything but the 8. We all stood silently. Mom stopped to for a moment about what she would say. "Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If we get wet, maybe we just need  9," Mom said. Then off they ran.

    We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they  10 past the cars. They held their shopping bags over their 11 just in case. They got wet. But they were12by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the 13 to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing. Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions (财产), they can take away your money, and they can take away your  14. But no one can ever take away your precious 15.     It was such a beautiful day that I drove to go for a look in the country. On the way back home, my car 1.

    "But I only come for some gas," I answered. I couldn't understand 7 she was talking about.

    "Oh, Alfred! Gas? You used to like tea," she said.

    I quickly explained my problem， 8 she didn't seem to hear me. She just 9 calling me Alfred and talking about how long it had passed 10 she had seen me. She acted very strangely and I felt very 11. As soon as she went to get tea, I ran out of the house as fast as I could.

    12 ，there was another house down the road and I was able to buy the gas I needed. When I told the man about my 13 , he said, "Oh, that's Miss Bronte. She lives by herself in that big house, She's strange. She's out of her mind. But don't worry. She won't hurt anybody. She is still 14 the man she was supposed to marry thirty years ago. The day before their wedding he left home and 15 came back because of the war."

    Kevin sat at the desk in his study, pencil in hand. He had to write a story for his English class by Friday. "I don't know what to1," he complained to his dog, who was asleep at his feet. Kevin was talkative when speaking to his friends, yet he had2finding words he had to write.

    By bedtime Kevin had drawn a picture of his dog smiling. He had drawn a tree with its branches(树枝) blowing in a high wind. He had also written a3asking his friend to go to the movies on Saturday.4he had not written a single word of his story.

    On Wednesday, Mrs. Scott, Kevin's English teacher, asked the class to5the first draft of their stories. Kevin had to turn in the only work that he had—the page with his name, the6, and the note.

    Kevin wasn't7when Mrs Scott asked him to stay after class the next day. But he was surprised by what8said to him. "Kevin, this is a fantastic story—the dog, the movie, the tree in the9I can't wait to find out how they all fit together. I think you have the idea of a story there. Look at your note and the pictures and try to see10a story comes to you."

    That night Kevin sat at his desk, and this was what he wrote: "One Saturday Tom went to meet his friend at the11it looked as if it might rain, so Tom12his umbrella. Suddenly a big storm blew in. The noise of the wind13like Tom's dog Spotty. Spotty really hated storms and barked whenever he wanted to be let inside. Then Tom saw Spotty running after him down the busy street, barking. The sound was full of blame(责备). Tom felt14because he had left Spotty outside. He turned and headed home with Spotty. Tom let Spotty in the door just and the rain started to pour down."

    Kevin had a story after all. The last thing he did was to write his name15at the top of the page.
