    During these days, the United States is full of cars. There are still some families without cars, but some families have two or more ones. They are also a necessary part of life.

    Cars are used for business. They are driven to offices and factories by workers who have no other way to get to their jobs. When salesmen are sent to different parts of the city, they have to drive in order to carry their products.

    Sometimes small children must be driven to school. In some cities school buses are used only when children live more than a mile away from the school.   One mother drives on Mondays taking her own children and the neighbors' as well. Another mother drives on Tuesdays, another on Wednesdays, and so on.  Men also form car pools, with three or four men taking turns driving to the place where they all work.

     So more car pools should be formed in order to put fewer cars on the road and use less gas. Too many cars will lead to some problems such as accidents or environmental pollution. Something will have to be done about the use of cars. And the government should encourage the citizens to decrease the use of their cars as much as they can.

A. Too many cars are being driven.

B. This is called forming a car pool.

C. Cars are used for more than pleasure.

D. You can choose your car according to the use of it.

E. Farmers have to drive into the city in order to get supplies.

F. Still, it is not safe for young children to take the school bus.

G. When children are too young to walk too far, their mothers take turns driving them to school.

    How could we live without the Internet? That's not how most of us keep in touch with friends, research a cool place to visit, or find out the latest news.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}But when you're moving through the Internet, you need to stay safe.

No Talking to Strangers

    Since you were a little kid, your mom or dad has probably told you not to talk to strangers.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It's easy to meet a stranger on the Internet. You might visit a chat room or get an email or a text message from someone you don't know.

    It can be fun to make new friends, but do not communicate with strangers you meet online.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}.Children have been tricked online by people who pretend to be something that they're not. Some children have found themselves in a dangerous situation when they agreed to meet the mysterious (神秘的) online “friend” in person.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}The email could be from a person or a company trying to sell you something, A grown-up should decide what's best to do, which may include changing your email address or telling the police.

Keep Your Privacy (隐私)

    Anybody who uses the Internet has been asked to sign in, log in, or create a personal profile (简介). Kids need to check with a parent or grown-up before doing so. Why?{#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

    Another way to keep your privacy is to choose a screen name or email account name that isn't your real name.

A. You can do all these things online.

How old is “old”?

    How old is “old”? {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Two hundred years ago, you were old at 35. That was the average life then. At the turn of this century, as medical knowledge advanced, the average life span(长度) increased to 45. In 1950, 70-year-olds were really old. Today, a healthy 70-year-old is looking forward to many more active years.

    So, how old is old? The answer is one you've heard many times, from all sorts of people. “You are as old (or young) as you feel!” The calendar(日历) simply tells you how many years you have lived. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Once an unknown author wrote,“ {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Nobody grows old by living a number of years; people grow old by giving up their goals.”

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Alice Brophy, when she was with the New York City commission for the Aging, said, “It upsets me when people say, 'Gee, you look young for your age!' What does that mean? Is there some model that you're supposed to look a certain way at 65 and 75 and 85? You know you can die old at 30 and live young at 80.”

There are many wrong ideas about aging. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}Here are some of the more common ones. For example, most older people are in poor health, or older people are unable to change.

    The key to dealing with test-day jitters(焦躁)is through preparation! {#blank#}1{#/blank#} It is important to prepare your mind and body before the test for the experience of working under pressure.

    Get some sleep.

    I know you've heard this before, but it's often repeated because it's so important. Get plenty of sleep the night before the test! If you don't have enough rest, you'll end up with less concentration. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Leave early.

    Be sure to leave earlier than normal on the day of a test to avoid the added fear of arriving late. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} The embarrassment will cause you to be distracted and lose valuable time.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    Once you arrive at school or at the testing center, find a quiet space where you can be all alone. You can use your car if you drive, or you can find an empty locker room or office (ask a teacher). Once you locate a cozy nest in a quiet place, do a relaxation session (=period). Close your eyes and try to relax completely. Take deep breaths and remain calm.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A Housewarming Party

    A housewarming party is a special party to be held when someone buys or moves into a new apartment or house. The person or people who bought the apartment or house or moved are the ones who throw the party.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}It also gives people a chance to see what the new home looks like. It is an opportunity to fill the new space with love and hopeful presents.

    It is traditional to bring a gift to a housewarming party{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Some common items(物品) people will put on a gift registry include kitchen tools like knives and items like curtains. Even if there isn't a registry, a good housewarming gift is something to decorate the new house with, like, a piece of art or a plant.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}It is often appreciated since at a housewarming party there isn't a lot of food served, usually just appetizers or sandwiches.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}The host or hostess of the party will, however, probably give all the guests a tour of their new home. Sometimes, because a housewarming party happens shortly after a person moves into a new home, people may be asked to help unpack boxes. This isn't usual though.

Body language can reflect our confidence level. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} and another way when we're nervous. At a glance (看一眼), most people can tell if we're confident or not. So we should learn some tips to show confidence through body language so that we always appear confident and ready.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} The first tip to show confidence with body language is to keep your hands out of your pockets. We often put our hands in our pockets when we're unsure of ourselves. And that's how other people will view us.

Keep your eyes forward

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, it often feels natural to lower your head slightly and watch your step. However, this gesture communicates to others that you don't want to interact. And if you're not careful. you might get into the habit of doing it all the time. So keep your head up and your eyes forward. even when you're walking down the street by yourself.

Smile

Try this as an experiment: Smile at someone as you pass by them on the street or walk around the office. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Now wouldn't you like to have that effect on people all the time?

Firm handshakes

There are few things worse than reaching out your hand during an introduction and getting a handshake which is not firm enough. Don't be that guy. Instead, hold the other person's hand firmly and confidently. Of course, a handshake is not a contest. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

A.Take wide steps

B.Avoid your pockets

C.It's very likely that they'll smile back

D.When you're walking anywhere by yourself

E.Don't try to hold the other person's hand too long

F.If you want to show confidence with body language

G.We stand and walk a certain way when we're confident
