The homestay(寄宿家庭) provides English language students with the good chance to speak English outside the classroom and the experience of being part of an American home.

    Living Area

    Host families are mainly in Zones 2, 3 and 4. Most hosts don't live in Zone 1 because much of central New York is the trading centre. Zones 3 and 4 often offer larger houses in uncrowded areas. But it's very convenient to travel to the centre of New York by subway.

    Meal Plans

    It's important to know that few American families still provide a traditional cooked breakfast. Your breakfast mainly includes fruit juice, bread and coffee. Cheese, fruit and cold neat are not part of the breakfast. Dinners are usually made up of meat or fish with vegetables followed by desserts, fruit and coffee.

    Friends

    If you wish to invite a friend to visit you, you must ask your host for permission(许可)fir because some families feel uncomfortable when there are strangers at their home.

Since humans sent the first satellite（卫星） to space in the 1950s，scientists have been studying an important topic：how to grow plants in space if humans live there one day.A recent experiment at the Tiangong space station makes a big step forward.

Chinese astronauts have successfully grown rice seedlings（幼苗） during the Shenzhou XIV mission.The researcher said，"The rice seedlings are growing very well."Since the rice experiment began on July 29，the seedlings of the tall shoot rice variety（高杆水稻品种） have reached a height of 30 centimeters.The seedlings of the dwarf rice variety（矮杆水稻品种） have grown to 5 centimeters，China Daily reported on August 30，2022.

While there have been other rice experiments in space，this one is the first of its kind to produce the complete life cycle of a plant—it begins with a seed and ends with a grown plant producing new seeds.

Such food﹣growing experiments are not for astronauts.They can solve food problems on Earth.By sending seeds to space，we can create mutated（突变的） seeds that can produce higher yields（产量）on Earth.

For more than 30 years，China has developed over 260 new types of seeds in space.They are planted on Earth every year.

According to Yao Tong，an engineer from Hainan Aerospace Engineering Breeding Research Center，30%of strawberries sold in Beijing are "space strawberries"，which are as big as eggs.The center has also produced "space tomatoes"with yields increased by 30%，and "space bananas"with a growth cycle shortened from 13 months to 9 months.

"May we all be blessed with longevity. Though miles apart, we are still able to share the beauty of the moon together(但愿人长久,千里共婵娟)."wrote Su Shi, a poet during the Song Dynasty, in his well-known poem to his younger brother Su Zhe.

The moon is at its brightest on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. On this day, people celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. It has been enjoying great popularity all over the country.

In ancient China, that day was a harvest(收获) festival because crops(庄稼) were harvested during that period. It was also a time for relaxation and celebration.

Just like Thanksgiving in Western countries, families also try to get together for the Mid-Autumn Festival in China. Usually, no matter how far away or how busy they are, people will try to return home for the celebration.

The Mid-Autumn has its own special food just as other traditional Chinese holidays. People eat mooncakes with fillings such as sugar and eggs. The round shape of the cake makes it look like the full moon. The full moon and mooncakes stand for family reunion(团聚).

With the beautiful moon up in the sky, people sit together, enjoy the full moon, eat mooncakes and fruit, share the stories, and express the best wishes for the family members and friends who live afar.

It is said that the eyes are the windows to our soul(灵魂). {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Your eyes need everyday attention.

First, you have to pay more attention to what you eat. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}It's good for your eyes. Also, a regular amount of vitamins(维生素) A and B2 should also be taken.

Second, you must have regular and sound sleep. This relaxes the eye muscles and gives them the rest they need. Sleep can help the body repair its tired tissue(组织). {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Less sleep can give you dark circles under your eyes and you may feel sleepy during the daytime.

China has also taken steps to protect the students' eyesight, such as larger printing in students' textbooks, at least two hours' outdoor activities a day, regular eyesight checking, less time on e-books and so on.

In America there is a school trying something new. At a high school in Florida, students will be able to choose their own classes. We all know that some students are better at some subjects than others. Some students plan to go on to college, while others will not. At this school students are able to find subjects they are interested in, and possibly even find the field(领域) they would like to go into after school. They are allowed to choose a subject like biology, math, a foreign language, or study skills like computer or car repair. 

Some people think this is a good idea, because it helps students think about what they want to do in the future, and the school helps to give them the knowledge and skills they need to get there. They say that giving the students the chance to choose their own classes makes high school more interesting. Others disagree. They think it will make it difficult for students to discover different possibilities(潜力). They point out that fourteen-year-old teenagers are too young to know what they will want to do in the future. How do you think? Would you like to be able to choose your own classes? Many useful changes have been made in education, but seeing the differences in each student is also important. What are they interested in? How can we help each student become a better student?

 Another popular Chinese saying {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the passing of time is"白驹过隙". It means that time flies by like a white horse running past a crack (缝隙) in a wall. The saying comes from {#blank#}8{#/blank#} book called Zhuangzi. In this book, it is said that Confucius came to Laozi to ask about the ultimate(终极的) truth of the universe. Laozi told Confucius that a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} ( person) life was as quick as"a white horse running past a crack". One's body would die, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} his or her spirit could live on forever.
