Most Chinese eat three meals a day. In the past,they had breakfast in the morning, a big lunch at noon, and a light supper at night.

    But now both men and women in the big cities have to work on the weekdays. So they often eat bread, eggs, milk and porridge forbreakfast at home. For lunch, Chinese take-away food is very popular. They often have a quick lunch in their workplaces.

    After work in the afternoon, they have more time for supper. They usually eat a big meal at home. Wives often cook meat, fish, chicken, vegetables and rice for their family.You can also find dumplings and noodles on the table in most families of northern(北方的)China.

    On Christmas Eve — the night before Christmas Day children are very happy. They put their stockings (长筒袜) at the end of their beds before they go to bed. They want Father Christmas to give them some presents. Mr. Green tells his children that Father Christmas is a cherry kind man. He comes on Christmas Eve. He lands on top of each house and comes down the chimney(烟囱) into the fireplace(壁炉) and brings them a lot of presents. Christmas Day always begins before breakfast. The children wake up very early. They can't wait to open the presents in their stocking. Then they wake up their parents and call: Merry Christmas! Do you know what Christmas means? Christmas Day is the birthday of Jesus Christ. When Christ was born, many people gave him presents. So today, people still do the same thing to each other.
