Animals are our friends. There are many zoos in the 1It's good to 2 animals in zoos. Zoos have many advantages, I think.

    Firstly, zoos are places for people to see 3 kinds of animals. Without zoos, most people would4see a real bear or tiger.

    5 , zoos can take good care of animals. Zoos give 6 to animals and. clean them on time every day. In the wild, it is not always easy for an animal to find food. So sometimes it goes 7. But animals in zoos never go hungry.

When I was a little boy, I lived next to David. He liked to plant trees in his large yard on weekends. But the way he planted trees was quite different. He never watered his new trees. I asked him why he did so, and he said that watering trees would spoil them. "If you water the trees, each baby tree will grow weaker and weaker." said David. He told me that watering these new trees would make roots (树根) shallow (浅), but deep roots were very important for trees. I didn't understand his words at that time.

Several years after I left home, I came back to visit my parents. When I walked by David's house, I saw the trees that he planted. They are strong now. I suddenly realize that planting a tree is like raising a child. As a father of two children, I shouldn't care for them too much. Instead, they should depend on themselves. In that case, whatever happens, they can make their own decisions.

When I was young,I worked in San Francisco. I did my job well and my future was promising. I was alone in the world and I was happy. I didn't have to work on Saturdays. I enjoyed my time off in my little sailboat on San Francisco Bay. One Saturday afternoon,I sailed out too far. The strong wind pushed my sailboat out of the bay,into the Pacific Ocean

That night,when I had lost all hope,a small British boat saw me and took me on board. The boat was sailing to London. The voyage was long and stormy. I worked as a sailor to pay for my trip. 

When I arrived in London,my clothes were old and dirty. I had only one dollar in my pocket. With this dollar,I ate and slept for the first twenty-four hours. During the next twenty-four hours,I didn't eat and I didn't sleep. The following morning,I went to Portland Place. I saw a child walking past,holding a big pear. The child ate one small piece and then threw the pear onto the street. 

I stopped and looked at it. I was very hungry and I really wanted that pear. But every time I tried to get it, someone passed by and looked at me. I quickly turned in the other direction and waited for the person to pass by. I tried again and again to get that pear,but the same thing happened. I was hopeless. But soon I made a determination(决心)to get the pear and not to worry about the people who saw me. 

Then,a gentleman opened a window behind me and said,"Come in here,please. "A well-dressed servant took me into a beautiful room. Here,two old gentlemen were sitting and discussing something important. Their breakfast was still on the table. I was very hungry and I stared at their breakfast. I want to tell the reader that the two gentlemen had made a bet(打赌)several days before. I knew nothing about the bet until later. Let me tell you what happened. 

A long time ago, there lived a king. Every year, he would spend a lot of   money building his palace. One day, the king had a new1 and he said to his men, " This year, I will build the best2 in the world. It should be praised within my kingdom, and by the people of neighboring states. "

Kate Sessions was interested in trees when she was a child. While other girls didn't want to get their hands dirty, little Kate enjoyed picking up branches(树枝) and fruits in the forest. Kate also danced and sang songs happily there. She felt the trees were her friends. She loved the way they grew toward the sky and how their branches stretched(延伸) to get the light. Kate thought the trees were like big umbrellas that protected her and the animals, birds and plants that lived in the forest. Kate smiled as she walked among the trees, enjoying the sounds of birds. Not everyone felt at home in the forest,but Kate did.

Kate learned well in school. She learned how to read and write. She remembered the stories she read. But best of all, she liked studying wind and rain, plants and trees, especially trees. At that time, very few girls chose to study science, but Kate chose to learn ecology(生态学) because of her love for it. She still tried to make her dream come true as a person who knew much about trees. 

After leaving school, Kate came to San Diego, a city with few green plants and bad air. Kate made a decision to better the air of the city, so she brought different kinds of trees to San Diego and called on her friends to plant trees with her. With hard work, they made Balboa Park in San Diego a beautiful and fantastic garden. Kate is also known as the" Mother of Balboa Park".
