I walked quickly out of my church. It was late. My dad was waiting. I stared at the parking lot. Then I saw my dad's little red Honda. “Get in! Get in! Why are you so late all the time?”

      The ride home was not much more than five minutes but each minute moved slowly. We were stuck behind an old man. He wasn't going more than 15 kilometers an hour. My dad started to shout, “Learn how to drive, Grandpa!” He hit the steering wheel(方向盘) with his hands. He was really angry.

      “Dad, stop it. Why do you always…?” He cut me off, “I'd not get stuck at the light without this fellow!” The old man got to the light just as it was changing. “You're free! Drive away quickly,” I thought. I looked over my dad. “Can you believe that, Steph? I get stuck at every light. There are so many stupid drivers out there, he said angrily.

      Who gives him the right to shout at someone? Anger built inside me. “What if I shouted at my friends when they asked me for help?” I said. I looked out of the window, trying to catch my breath.

      “You know, Steph, I think you are going to be a psychologist(心理学家),” he said. I remembered the last time I tried to say something, he had fumed, “Don't tell me how to drive! If I want your opinion, I'll ask for it! Think about what you say before you talk.”

      Usually, he'd be angry that I would doubt his authority (权威), but this time, he accept what I had said. A sense of pride rose up in me. It had been a short drive, but it had been the best car ride of my life.

    Bob Smith is old. He has two big houses and a new car. He has no wife， but he is a father of four children. He has two sons and two daughters. One son is from (来自于) Canada. His name is Jack. The other (另一个) is from England. His name is Mike. One of his daughters is from China. Her name is Meimei. She is eleven years old. The other is from America. Her name is Lucy. She's eleven, too.

    Bob Smith is not the children's real father, but he loves them very much. The children love their “father”, too. Bob Smith has many toys (玩具) for the children. He gives different (不同的) toys to different children. The boys play with toy cars. The girls play with doll (娃娃) and toy animals. Bob Smith is their good friend.

    My grandfather Jack is 96 years old, and he has an interesting life. He has travelled a lot in his life in the Far East. He visited the Taj Mahal in India and the Pyramids, in Egypt. He hunted (狩猎) lions in Africa, and rode a camel in the Sahara Desert. He says the most beautiful place he has travelled to is Kathmandu in Nepal.

    Jack has married twice. His first wife died when she was 32. He met his second wife Maria while he' was cycling round France. They have been married for 50 years, and they have lived happily in a small village since they got married.

    Jack says that he has never been ill in his life. The secret of good health, according to my grandfather, is exercise. He goes swimming every morning. He has done this since he was a boy. He also has a glass of wine every night! Perhaps that is his secret!

    It's Paul's twelfth birthday today. After breakfast, some of his friends come to see him. They give (给) him many nice gifts. Paul is very happy. At about 9:00 in the morning, they play basketball. They have lunch at McDonald's. In the afternoon, they go to the park (公园).

    At about 5:30 in the afternoon they come back home. Paul's mother buys a big birthday cake (蛋糕) for him. Paul's name and the words "Happy Birthday" are on the cake. Paul gets some nice presents from his family, too—a yellow T-shirt from his mother, a pair of sports shoes from his father, a CD from his sister Lucy, a basketball from his grandpa and a book from his grandma.

    How happy Paul is!
