When I was 8 years old, I once decided to run away from home. With my bag and some sandwiches, I started for the front door and said to Mom, “I'm 1.”

  “If you want to 2, that's all right,” she said. “But you came into this home without anything and you can leave the same way.” I 3 my bag and sandwiches on the floor heavily and started for the door again.

  “Wait a 4,” Mom said. “I want your 5 back. You didn't wear anything when you 6.” This really angered me. I took my clothes off—shoes, socks, underwear and all—and 7, “Can I go now?” “Yes,” Mom answered, “but when you close that door, don't hope to come back!”

    I was so 8 that I slammed (砰地关上) the door and stepped out of it. 9 I found that I was outside with 10 on. Then I noticed that two neighbor girls were walking to my house. I ran to 11 behind a big tree in our yard at once. After a while, I was    12 that the girls went away. I rushed to the front door and knocked on it loudly.

  “Who's there?” I heard.

  “It's Billy! Let me in!”

    The voice behind the 13 answered, “Billy doesn't live here any more. He ran away from home.” Glancing(瞥) behind me to see if anyone else was coming. I begged(乞求), “Aw, come on, Mom! I'm still your son. Let me 14!”

    The door opened and Mom's 15 face appeared(出现). “Did you change your decision about running away?” she asked.

  “What's for supper?” I answered.

    The hippo(河马) is the most dangerous animal in Africa, but that hasn't stopped a South African animal lover from making friends with one.

    Marius Els is 40 years old. He 1 around 20 different kinds of animals on his ranch(饲养场), in South Africa. He has a real soft spot for Humphrey, a 6-year-old hippo that's like a son to him. While all of his friends are too 2 to go near the animal, and his wife told him not to get too close, Marius climbs on Humphrey's back as he swims 3 the lake.

    Marius has kept the hippo 4 he was just five months old. And over the years, the two have 5 a special relationship that people just don't understand.     Jones offered free haircuts to countless homeless men for a year. His1came to him after giving money to a man on the street. He2what else he could do to help. He then decided to 3for people who needed help and offer free haircuts on the street.

     He gives not only help but also good luck. His very first customer even 4a full-time job not long after Jones' service.

     Deeply touched by what Jones did, David, the5of "Taper's Barbershop", decided to give Jones his newly decorated shop, completely free of charge. His goal was to provide Jones with the 6and tools he needed to continue helping others during the winter months.

    David said 'well, this building is sitting here. Do you 7it?'And Jones said yes. David gave Jones the keys and said, 'It's 8now."

    Jones is now able to keep helping the homeless in his new shop,9David. He has devoted Mondays to giving the homeless free haircuts,10 the shop is called "Makeover Mondays". Jones said he would continue helping others, because it could bring him inner peace and happiness.

Last Saturday, Tony went to see Benny. But he didn't know1Benny lived.2the way, he stopped in front of a yellow house, and asked an old woman the3to Benny's house. "His house is not far from my house," said the woman.

"It's behind the trees. But you can't get there4. You can go there by bus. It'll5you hours to get there6foot."

 An aquanaut(潜水员) called Fabien Cousteau drew many people's eyes. He helps to build the world's {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(large) underwater research(研究) station. He wants the building {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be) an underwater form of the international Space Station (ISS). And it can be used by astronauts from different countries. It's not {#blank#}3{#/blank#} easy thing to do, but the idea receives much support(支持).

 The station, named Proteus, will be at the bottom(底部) of the sea. It will be a place for{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(scientist) to study the ocean.

 Inside the station, there will be bedrooms, laboratories, medical facilities(设施) and the{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(one) underwater greenhouse for growing food. Cousteau says that it will {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(take) three years to build.

 Cousteau says that underwater research is even {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(important) than doing research in space, So far, people have known only about one fifth of the ocean floor {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(clear). There are still many possible things waiting {#blank#}10{#/blank#} people to find out. So Cousteau hopes the base will lead to many exciting discoveries.
