The Biggest Tree

    Do you know the biggest tree in the world? Its name is “General Sherman”. General Sherman is growing on the slopes (斜坡) of the Rocky Mountains in the United States. General Sherman is about 1100cm across and about 3500cm round, this will give you an idea of General Sherman's size. General Sherman is also very tall. It is over 8000cm high. It began as a tiny seed (小种籽) many years ago. It has been growing since about 2000 BC (公元前). It has been growing for almost 4,000 years and it's still growing! General Sherman is as old as the Pyramids (金字塔). It may live for another 2000 years.

    The story is about two mice. They are friends. One mouse lives in the country. The other lives in the city. One day they meet each other. The one in the country says, “Come and have look at my house.” They come to a house in a field. The country mouse gives the city mouse nice food. But the city mouse says. “This food is not good. You must come and live with me in the city.”

    So they go to the house of the city mouse. It is a very good house. Nice food is ready (准备）for them to eat. But just when they begin to eat, they hear a great noise. “Run! Run! The cat is coming!” the two friends run away quickly. After some time, they go out. The country mouse says to the city mouse, “I don't like to live in the city. It's dangerous.”

    I am Danny. There are four people in my family. My father, my mother, my sister and me. Last Sunday was a fine day. My family went to the Zhongshan Park by subway. We went hiking in the park. At first, all of four were happy and excited. Father is stronger than all of us, so he took many things in his bag. We played games, sang songs and danced in the park. But suddenly, my sister fell down. Her leg hurt. At last, she had to go to see the doctor. We were sad in the end.

    France is in the middle of Europe. Paris is the biggest city France. There you can see the Eiffel Tower and Louvre, a very famous museum.

French people love cycling. Every year there is a very big bicycle race around France.

    Many people like to travel to France for their holidays.

    Egypt is in the northeast of Africa. It is famous for the pyramids. They are more than 4000 years old. They are very close to the biggest city in Africa, Cairo. There is also the Nile, the longest river in the world.

    Like China, Egypt has a spring festival, called Sham El-Nessim. On this day, people cook special food like green onions and go outside to enjoy the spring wind.
