Dear Andrew, I write this letter to tell you something exciting. We had a sports meeting in our school last Friday!

At about 8: 00 am, all the students arrived at the playground. I took part in the first event-the 100-metre race. Steve got first place. My classmate David took part in the long jump and Lisa took part in the high jump.

The tug-of-war(拔河) between Class Three and Class One was the most interesting event in the morning. It was at 11: 00 am. And Class Three won it. The events in the afternoon were the 400-metre race, bicycle race, basketball game and tennis game. My classmate Maria took part in the 400-metre race. But she fell down and could not move.      Nadia Comaneci,a famous gymnast (体操运动员),was born in Romania in 1961.

When shewas doing cartwheels (侧手翻%)on the playground at the age of 7,a PE teacher saw her.He told her family that she was very good and advised Nadia to train in the capital of Romania.Although it was a long way from her home,Nadia went because she loved gymnastics (体操).

After that, she trained hard and took part in lots of competitions. In 1975,she was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century.

In 1976,Nadia went totheOlympicsinCanada. She was so fantastic in the competition that everyone waited for the score,a high score. But the scoreboard showed1,00!

    Everyone was surprised.There wasn't a sound for a moment.Then a voice came,"Ladies and gentlemen,Nadia Comaneci…10!"

The audience(观众)cheered very loudly. So what happened?Well, when the scoreboard was built,no one thought a score of 10,00 was possible. The decimal point (小数点)was in the wrong place! In fact, the scoreboard only had three digits(数位) to show scores, such as 9.50 or 9.85 at that time.

    In the 1976 Summer Olympics.Nadia Comaneci scored a perfect 10,which was thought impossible before.From then on,she was looked as a hero.In 1984,she got retired(退休的).

Rob Frenette had problems with bullies(欺辱) at school for eleven years. He was often lonely and scared. When he was fifteen, however, he decided to do something about his problems. He walked into a newspaper office and told them about the bullying. His story went into the newspaper and soon all the TV stations in Canada wanted to talk to him about his experiences. They also wanted to hear his ideas to stop bullying.

After that, Rob continued his studies at school, but in his free time he helped other people with bullying problems. With a friend Katie Neu, he made a website called www. bullyingcanada. ca. Visitors to the website can find advice, stories and poems about bullying, in both English and French. When people are upset, they can talk on the phone or online to Rob and his team. Every weekend Rob has to answer e-mails to the website. He also speaks to children, teachers and members of government around the country about bullying.

Rob's most important message is: “When bullies are unkind to you, it isn't your fault (过错、责任). There's nothing wrong with you, so you should try to keep trusting yourself. And remember that people care about your problems. You just have to find those people.”

One of Rob's ideas is “Blue Day”, a special day for stopping bullying in schools. Students have to wear blue clothes and in class they learn how to stop bullying. More than 150 Canadian schools now celebrate Blue Day, but Rob won't stop until there's a Blue Day in every school in Canada.

It was Mother's Day. John was so busy with his work that he couldn't go back home. When he passed by a flower shop in the evening, an idea came to his mind, "I'll send mom some roses(玫瑰)."While John was picking his flowers, a young man went inside. "How many roses can I get for only five dollars, Madam?" he asked. The assistant(店员) was trying to tell him roses were as expensive as forty dollars a dozen(一打). Maybe he would be happy with carnations(康乃馨).

"No, I have to have red roses, "he said. "My mom was badly ill last year and I didn't get to spend much time with her. Now I want to get something special, it has to be roses, for roses are her favorite."

After hearing it, John said he would pay the rest of the money for the young man. Moved by both of them, the assistant said, "Well, lovely young men, thirty dollars a dozen, only for you." Taking the roses, the young man almost jumped into the air and ran out of the shop. It was well worth twenty-five dollars that John paid to see the exciting moment. Then John paid for his dozen of roses and told the assistant to send them to his mother.

As he walked out, he felt nice. Suddenly he saw the young man crossing the street and going into a park. But soon John realized it was not a park but a cemetery(墓地). Crying, the young man carefully put down the roses, "Mom, oh, Mom, why didn't I tell you how much I loved you? God, please help me find my mom and tell her I love her."

Seeing this, John turned and quickly walked to the shop. He would take the flowers home himself.
