Working in Africa, one day we went to an orphanage (孤儿院). There we met a lovely little girl named Tanzile. I gave her a sweet I brought. “She 1 one more, doctor,” said the nurse. I said “Of course.” and gave her 2.

    Before we left, we went to say 3 to Tanzile. She was holding the sweets I had given her.

    I said to the nurse, “This little girl is clever. She has taken two sweets for herself.”4 after the nurse asked her some questions, we learned the 5 about Tanzile.

    Tanzile was 7 then. Two years before, her mom and dad had both died of AIDS. Her baby sister was taken away from her. From then on, whenever she  6 anything from people, including food, she refused to accept unless they gave her two — one for her and one for her 7.

    In fact, in her room, we found quite a few old things which she  8 38   to give her sister one day.

    Later that day, I was 9 to find that this was not an isolated (个别的) story. There were many orphans just like Tanzile. With a lot of things in their rooms, they 10 for their brothers and sisters who they hadn't seen for so long.

    People sometimes think African children are different from our kids. They think that the children there don't feel pain or sadness or love. But that is not true. Their pain is deep. And so is their love.

    One day, a rich father took his young son on a trip to the countryside. He wanted to show him how poor the villagers were and wished him to cherish(珍惜) what he had. They 1 two days in a poor family in the village.

    On their 2 home from the trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

    "It was great, Dad."

    "Did you see how poor people could be?" the father asked.

    "Oh, yeah!" said the son.

    "So what did you learn 3 the trip?" asked the father.

    After 4 for a while, the son answered, "I saw that we have a dog, 5, they have four. We have a pool in the garden. And they have a small river without 6 end. At night, we have small lights in the garden, but they have the 7 in the sky. We buy our food, but they grow 8. We have walls around to 9 us safe but they have friends."

    You could imagine the look on the father's face!

    Then the son went on, "Thanks, Dad. Now I know how 10 we are!"

"I'm going shopping in the village，"George's mother said to George on Saturday morning．"So be a good boy and don't get into trouble．And don't forget 1good care of Grandma．"Then out she went．

    Grandma 2 in the chair by the window when she opened one little eye and said，"Now you heard 3your mother said，George．"

    "Yes，Grandma，"George said．

    George was bored to tears．He didn't have a brother or a sister．His father was a farmer，and 4farm they lived on was miles away from anywhere，5 there were never any children to play with．He was tired of staring at6pigs，hens，cows and sheep．He was especially tired of having to live in the house with his grandma．Looking after her all by himself was hardly 7way to spend a Saturday morning．

    "Go and make me a cup of tea for a start，8 sugar and milk．"Grandma said．Most grandmothers are lovely，kind，helpful old ladies，but not this one．George's grandma was a woman9was always complaining about something or other．She spent all day10on her chair by the window．George 11 that Grandma used to be a gentle lady，but as she grew older，she was not able to look after herself and even worse，she was easy to get angry．

    "We 12be nice to the old，George，"His mother always told him．

    Thinking of this，George 13into the kitchen and made Grandma a cup of tea with a teabag．He put one spoon of sugar and 14 milk in it．He stirred the tea well and carried it into the living room 15 ．

    Twenty-five-year-old South African DJ Mandla Maseko has been chosen as one of 23 people who will get to go to space! Maseko, a 1 African, can't wait to become the first black South African to go to 2!

    He and 22 others were some of over one million who 3 the Lynx Apollo Space Academy competition to win a ticket to space. When he was 4 why he wanted to go to space, Maseko's answer was 5, "want to fight against the rules of gravity(引力)."

    He will start to do so on a Lynx mark II space ship in 2015, not only fighting against gravity but also realising his childhood 6 of becoming an astronaut when he grew up.

    "We blacks also 7 with dreams. You dreamed of being a policeman or a teacher but you know you won't get as far as a pilot or an astronaut. Then I went to the space camp and I told 8 that I could be an astronaut," said Maseko.

    During the first week of December, Maseko, two other South Africans, 9 more than 100 international contestants(选手) went to the space camp in Orlando, Florida to test if they are 10 enough to go to space.

    Maseko knows there is a long way to go before he finally goes into space. "I'll be the first black South African and the first black African to go into space. When I think of the firsts, the first black presidents—Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, I tell myself to try my best."
