The Chinese language has a history of 6,000 years. But Pinyin, which tells {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (we) how to read Chinese words correctly, is still young.

In 1958, Chinese linguist Zhou Youguang and his team made Pinyin. Before that, Chinese people used many other ways to show how to pronounce Chinese characters, but these ways couldn't be used as {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (easy) as Pinyin. Because of Pinyin, more people learn how to read. It is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} helpful system that improves Chinese language learning for all.

 This year, Pinyin turns 66 years old. It {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (use) everywhere in our daily life. We learn to speak Putonghua with the help of Pinyin. We write Chinese words on {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (computer) by using Pinyin. It is also becoming a bridge {#blank#}6{#/blank#} China and the world. Many people around the world start to learn Chinese by learning Pinyi {#blank#}7{#/blank#} you may say "nihao" to mean "hello" to a foreign friend.

Now, many people in other countries are {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (interested) in using Pinyin than before. For example, fewer foreigners use "dumplings". They prefer to say "jiaozi". The Oxford English Dictionary has {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (hundred) of Chinese words in Pinyin, such as wanggou for "shopping online". Maybe one day, Pinyin will play a key role in {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (spread) the Chinese language.

Do you like eating wonton（馄饨）？The wonton is a kind of popular food. It is as popular around the world as in China. You can find wonton restaurants in America, England, and many other countries. 

Wonton is a kind of traditional food in the north of China. In different parts of China, wonton has different names. In the north, the wonton is called Huntun. In Guangdong, it is called Yuntun. People in Sichuan call it Chaoshou. In Fujian, it is called Bianshi. 

Do you want to know how to make wonton? It's very easy. First, prepare some meat and vegetable mix and wrappers(馄饨皮). Next, use a spoon to fill a wrapper with some of this mix. Then, put the outside of the wrapper together with your fingers. Finally, put the wonton in a pot and cook it for a few minutes. 

There are two reasons why wonton is popular with people. The first reason is about the taste. It is delicious. The second one is about its price. It's not expensive. Everybody can buy it. 

Mr. Black retired (退休) five years ago. Now he lives a happy life. He exercises in the morning. He plays with his grandchildren on weekends. Sometimes he goes to parties.

One Sunday evening, after Mr. Black had dinner, he went out for a walk with his granddaughter Jane. They saw three beggars (乞丐) outside the park.

"Why do they beg in the street?" asked the little girl.

"Because they're poor," answered Mr. Black.

"Why don't they find any work?" "Because they're lazy."

"Do you know who is the laziest of them?"

"That's easy," said Mr. Black, he came up to them, took out five dollars and said, "I'll give the money to the laziest of you. Tell me who he is."

"I lost my job a year ago," the first beggar stood up quickly and said, "of course I am!"

"I haven't done any work for two years," the second beggar sat up and said, "give me the money."

The third beggar went on lying on the ground and said, "Come over here, sir. Put the money into my bag!"

My father was busy fixing Belinda's spaceship all afternoon. In the evening, I went to the landing place. "Dear Father," I said politely. "Have you found Belinda's parents yet?"

"Not yet, my dear." He shook his head.

I felt relaxed. I didn't want to meet Belinda's parents—they might be ten times as loud and bossy as she was.

But Belinda had followed me.

"Not yet?" she shouted. "Why not? I'll send them a message! They'll listen to me!"

Belinda ran to the radio. She shouted into it so loudly that I had to cover all my four ears. "Mummy! Daddy! I'm on an awful spaceship full of purple people! Come and find me now!"

"Poor Belinda!" my sister came and said. "Her parents must be missing her."

"Huh!" I snorted (发出哼声). "Missing her? You're joking! Who would want such a bossy kid back? They probably lost her on purpose."

Belinda's face clouded. I thought she was going to shout again, but she didn't. Instead, something very strange happened — her eyes began to water!

"Oh, help!" said Roa. "Is she dying?"

I felt terrible. "Don't die, Belinda! I didn't mean it."

Then Belinda opened her mouth wide and shouted, "What if it's true? What if they've gone away and left me here forever?"

We were all so busy comforting Belinda that we didn't notice the soft knock of a ship landing outside. We didn't see two tall people come out of it until Belinda ran out in excitement.

"Mummy! Daddy!"

Belinda's parents were even uglier than she was, but they looked polite. "Hello, dear," the female said. "We're sorry we kept you waiting."

We smiled as the three of them boarded their spaceship. "Goodbye!" shouted Belinda. "Goodbye! Thanks for taking care of our baby girl!" said her father.

None of us answered. We waved cheerfully as the ship took off and went far away into the stars.
