Lyle's Second Go

    In 1982，when I was coaching the Raiders， the owner of the team talked with me about a possible trade for Lyle Alzado. After watching him on tape，I didn't think he was that good, but the owner felt we could make Lyle better by creating the right environment lor him. We made the1.

    That summer at training camp，Lyle was having a hard time. He had that look in his eyes that many young players and some old players get when things aren't going 2.One morning Lyle came into my office and he looked like he hadn't slept. Here was a huge man, with his head about as3as it could go. We talked, or rather, I listened. The main point was that Lyle felt his career (职业生涯）was over and it would be best for him and for the team if he retired (退役）.He apologized for4us since we had just traded for him.

    Lyle was always an emotional person. This is one of the reasons he was a good player. He5all that emotional energy with him, ready to lire out at the snap of the ball (开球）.Now he was in front of me， almost crying. I thought for a moment， realizing we had to keep that 6going. Then I went through my reasons why he should not retire. At the end of our talk， I said，“You go out and play your very best, and let us7if you still have it. Personally， I think you do.”

    In January 1984. Tampa Bay Stadium. Super Bowl XVIII. With less than two minutes remaining, we were leading 38-9. We were the world champions of professional football. I saw Lyle，crying like a baby. I had to turn away quickly，or I would have joined him in 8.

    I remembered that morning in my office， and what Lyle， and what the Raiders， had achieved since he came to us. If Lyle hadn't given his career another shot, he wouldn't have had this victory. Maybe the Raiders wouldn't have had this victory. During that moment， I felt one of the greatest satisfactions of my coaching career.

    Different things usually stand for different feelings. Red, for example, is the colour of fire, heat, blood and life. It is used for signs of 1 , such as STOP signs and fire engines. Orange is the colour of brightness, warmth and 2in autumn. People say orange is a 3colour. They associate orange with happiness. 4 is the colour of grass in spring. People say it is a refreshing colour. In general, people 5 about two groups of colours: warm colours and cool colours. The warm colours are red, orange and yellow .When there are warm colours, people usually want to be 6. The cool colours are black and blue. When there are these colours, people are usually worried. Some scientists say that time seems to 7 more slowly in a room with warm colours. They suggest that a warm colour is a good 8for a living room or a restaurant. People who are having a rest or are 9do not want time to pass quickly. However, 10 colours are better for some offices if people working there want time to pass quickly.

    When I was a junior high school student in 1980, God gave me a gift. I t was happiness.

    One weekend, I went to visit my grandparents in the countryside. On my way home, a car ran over me and cut off my arms because of its high speed.

    Several days later when I woke up at the hospital, I realized I had to spend the rest of my life1 arms. How sad I felt at that time! Even I was full of fears, but slowly I knew I had to face the fact and got over it. I couldn't get my arms back even though I 2 every day.

    However, it's easier 3 than done. It took me nearly half a year to get out of the sadness 4. I got so much from my past story. From then on, I could treat my life with a usual mind. But in our daily life, I often see my classmates 5about little things They get a bad grade on a test; their bus comes 6 ; they don't have a mobile phone but 7have, and so on. But I only 8life. I was lucky to realize from an accident. It is a waste of our life to pay attention to what you have

    9 We should always think of what we have. So why are so many people unhappy? Someone may say, "My whole life would improve if I have a new car." But when you get the car and what 10 ? For a whole week you are walking on air. Then you go right back to being unhappy.

    Happiness depends on what we have! It's in our heart. Happiness comes from knowing the art of appreciating(感激)and taking pleasure in what you really have.

    Chen Yujie studies at a boarding school in Ningbo, Zhejiang. She used to go back to her home in Cixi every week {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (get) money from her parents.

Results show that American kids seem to know when their parents are most receptive(乐于接受的). Mealtime is discovered to be their favourite time to talk to their parents. Bedtime comes {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (two), followed by time spent in the car.

    {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (China) teenagers seem to have a similar tendency(倾向) towards the problem. A newspaper in Zhejiang did a survey {#blank#}10{#/blank#} it. The result shows most teenagers in the city would choose mealtime to talk to their parents.

    So do you have anything to talk to your parents? Choose a good time.

    My friend, Robert, 1in a butchers shop. He helps the butcher(屠夫) to do some heavy work. He puts meat on the shelf every day. People come into the shop and buy the meat. But today there isn't any meat on the shelf. The butcher asks Robert2some meat onto the shelf.

    Robert runs to get some pieces of meat. They are in another room and they are on the3shelf. Robert is tall, but he still can't reach(达到) the meat. Robert thinks for a minute. He has a good idea. He takes two boxes and puts one on the top of4. Then he stands on them. Now he can reach the pieces of meat5.

    The butcher is very glad to see the meat. And then, people are also happy to get some meat from the butcher's.
