Last weekend, I took Lucy to a park, where she discovered a track with large bumps(凸块)and sharp tums. At first, I thought Lucy was able to ride her bike along the track, but she quickly found that her bike was too low to the ground and kept getting stuck on top of the bump.

Lucy looked at me with fear because she was still a biking newbie. I tried to encourage her too, but really, I was thinking﹣this is going to be a disaster. Not because I thought she would get hurt. More because I thought she wouldn't be able to pick up enough speed to balance, then get really discouraged, and give up quickly. I imagined her throwing her bicycle to the ground and then crying all the way home.

But I was only half right. Lucy did have a lot of trouble riding the bike. She couldn't find her balance. She fell many times. At one point, she almost started crying because younger kids were getting angry that she was slowing everyone else down. But she did not give up. She kept picking herself up and trying again. She even took the bike off the track and into the main park to practice pushing off and picking up speed on a flat ground. When she felt more confident, she came back. Then she did it over and over again until she finally reached her goal of going around the whole track without falling once. Then she didn't want to leave and everyone was cheering her on.

This was not a day that ended in a disaster. It was a day when Lucy learned that perseverance pays off.

Students pass their schoolwork through different hands, from their group leaders to the class representative(课代表), and finally to the teacher. It might not sound too difficult, but sometimes it can go wrong and take a lot of time.

To deal with this problem, Zhang Xirui from Shenzhen Gezhi Academy in Guangdong came up with a useful tool —— a smart homework collection robot. This won him first prize in the 20th Guangdong Provincial Children's Invention Awards.

The robot uses radio frequency identification (RFID, 射频识别) technology —— a reader and a special tag(标签) that can share information without touching each other. This way, it can help find and know what it is looking for. Each student's notebook has a special RFID tag with his or her name and the subject. Students only need to place their notebooks on the robot, and the machine" sees"the notebook, reads its tag and takes it out of the name list. "Teachers can check who hasn't turned in homework by connecting their phones with the robot through Wi-Fi, "the 13-year-old explained to Shenzhen Satellite TV.

▲  Now, he's planning to develop a third-generation and hopes to use ultra-high-frequency (超高频) radio technology to read lots of RFID tags from far away. That means if you stick a special tag on your notebook, the robot can read the information from a thick stack (堆) of notebooks at once. Zhang believes this is the key to how artificial intelligence can make life easier for us.

Zhang dreams of becoming a scientist when he grows up. "I have tried making model airplanes and other scientific and creative projects. Inventing has brought me joy and happiness, "he said.

Recently, many people think it's risky to use credit card numbers online. However, from time to time passwords and ID numbers on the Internet We think we are safe, but that may not be true! A new kind of attack is being used by dishonest people to steal IDs and credit card numbers from web surfers. This new kind of attack is called "phishing"

Phishing sounds the same as the word "fishing", and it means that a thief is trying to trick people into giving away valuable information, Like real fishermen, phishers use bait in the form of great online deals or services. For example, phishers might use false emails and websites to trick people into revealing (透露) credit card numbers, account usernames, and passwords. They imitate (模仿) well-known banks, online sellers, and credit card companies. Successful phisher s may make as many as 5%of the people believe and give away their personal in formation.

★     Actually, tricking 5% of the online population is huge. Now more than 4. 6 billion people have access (进入权) to the Internet, and 75% of those Inter net users live in the wealthiest countries on Earth. It has been reported that phishers send more than 40 billion false messages each year. Even by tricking only 5%of the people, phishers can make a lot of money.

Amy, 18, from California, received an e mail. A man told Amy that she could get a million dollars in her account as a reward if she sent a thousand dollars to him. Amy did as the man said at once. The "thief" used Amy's Social Security number to get credit cards in her name and transferred her money.

How can people avoid being cheated online? Above all, they have to learn to recognize the e-mail that be sent by a phisher. Always be careful with any email with urgent requests for personal information. Phishers typically write upsetting or exciting, but false statements in their emails so that people will reply right away Never give out personal information to phishers. And if an offer sounds too good to be true, it is.
