There is a hiking trail (远足小径) near Sara's home. The trail begins at the foot of the mountain and leads all the way to the top. One day, Sara and her father planned to go on a hike. Sara had packed lunches earlier that morning. Her lather filled their backpacks with other things and they set out!

    As they started up the trail, Sara's father pointed out many different plants along the trail. He showed Sara the difference between the leaves of an aspen tree and a spruce tree. Sara was glad that her father knew so much! She always learned something whenever they went on a hike.

    "Look over there," Sara said in a low voice. They had just turned a comer on the mountain trail. Lying in the grass next to the trail was a small baby deer(鹿). It looked at them with wide eyes, but it did not move.

    "Where is its mother?" Sara asked. "Do you think we should stay here and watch it?"

    "That's a good idea," answered her dad. "We must not go any closer, though." As they sat down and unpacked their lunch, Sara asked her dad why they couldn't go any closer to the deer. He explained that sometimes, if the mother smelled humans too close to her baby, she would be too afraid to come back. Sara and her father agreed that they would wait for the mother to come back, but that they would not get too close to the deer.

    Soon a larger deer walked slowly up to the baby deer. The mother and baby ran quickly down the trail.

    Sara and her father packed up their things and continued up the mountain. They knew that the deer was now safe.

It was Saturday that day. Luke was wearing his basketball clothes, waiting for his chance to play but until last week, nobody asked him to play. Although the 18-year-old student does well in playing basketball, his coach wouldn't like to bring Luke into play. This is because it isn't easy for Luke to see things even when he wears glasses. He has to try his best to aim at the basketball hoop^① by focusing on the right corner of his glasses. His mother said that he was born with cerebral palsy^②. 

On the high school's Senior Night last week, Luke's coach finally called him to play during the final minute of the game. With the teammates already coming to give him a warm welcome, Luke got into position as the crowd cheered him up. 

"I want to get him in. It was Senior Night, the most important moment for every player in the team." the head coach told the reporters, "If there was a chance for him, I would want to take advantage of it."

Once the game was back in play, one of Luke's teammates passed him the ball. Though he had been practising shooting hoops since he was in the third grade, this was the first time he had ever taken a shot on his high school basketball team. He took a deep breath to release the nervous feeling. 

As the watchers waited, Luke took the shot and dropped the ball. It fell through the net, hardly touching the hoop. He made it! In fact, his score helped the team win the game. All his teammates came to hug him, showing great admiration^③ and respect. 

"I heard the watchers calling my name," Luke told the news reporters. "They were jumping and shouting. I still can't believe I was awarded the title of MVP (Most Valuable Player) of this game."

Li Ming and Liu Mei were in the same school. They were friends {#blank#}1{#/blank#} they were also deskmates. Liu Mei worked hard and did {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in her study, but Li Ming was very lazy and hardly ever {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to the teacher in class. 

Once in {#blank#}4{#/blank#} English test, Li Ming found the questions so {#blank#}5{#/blank#} that he couldn't answer them. He tried to peep at（偷看）Liu Mei's paper. Liu Mei noticed（注意）that and she was {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. She told Li Ming he was wrong and he should finish the paper by {#blank#}7{#/blank#}. Li Ming was embarrassed（尴尬的）. That evening, Liu Mei went to Li Ming's house. It was raining heavily outside and her {#blank#}8{#/blank#} were all wet（湿的）. She said that she came to help Li Ming {#blank#}9{#/blank#} his homework. Li Ming was so moved that he decided to {#blank#}10{#/blank#} hard from then on. We should help our good friends like Liu Mei when they make mistakes.

I take the jar from the shelf and run to my dad and mum, so 6 to be with them. But then ! studio(绊倒) and 7 . When I put out my hand to steady myself, the jar drops through my8 . It is broken, and bits of apple fly everywhere.

Then I hear my mum's steps and 9 ." Are you hurt?" She checks me for cuts. That's the last jar we've been saving to welcome dad home with weeks of no dessert. I want her to shout at me, but all she said was " Don't worry. I am going to make my Mama Sugar Pie 10 apple."
