Creating a study plan

Studying is important to students. But it is always difficult to find enough time to study every subject you need. So a good plan helps you to make sure of your success in study.

Then, how to make a study plan? Well, you can begin with listing all the subjects you need to study and make sure what you need to do for each subject. Next, you should decide how much time you should spend on different subjects. Now, it is a good idea to study at the same time every day. In this way, you actually have a plan you can remember easily. While arranging (安排) time for each subject, you also need to make sure that you still have time for family, friends and rest. This is because you won't be able to succeed in your studies unless you balance your personal life and your study.

Once the plan is made, the next thing you need to do is to follow it. One of the biggest challenges in following your study plan is that you will be tempted (诱惑) to avoid it and do something relaxing, or fun instead. Luckily, you can fight this temptation by taking breaks. But be sure not to take extra breaks or too long breaks as it can affect your plan. So at the start of your break, set an alarm clock to remind you when your break is over. Also, you need to use your break wisely. For example, go for a short walk, eat a small snack, or listen to some music.

To avoid forgetting to follow your plan, try to get into the habit of looking at your calendar every day. Sometimes our plans are herd to follow because some important people in our lives distract (使分心) us from our goals. In order to avoid this, tell people in your life about your plan. Put up a copy of your study guide at home so you and your family can see it, and email a copy to your friends so they know when you have spare time.

Have you ever noticed that you seem to learn faster in certain classes but slowly in others? Maybe you think it's because of the different difficulties of subjects, but the real reason is that our learning types are different.

Now, you may wonder what a learning type is and how to find yours.

There are mainly three different learning types: Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic. You can be a combination(混合) of learning types, but most people have one main type. Visual learners learn best by seeing. If you seem to easily remember information from pictures, charts and videos, you are likely a visual learner. Auditory learners learn best by hearing. If you seem to remember things by hearing them, then you are likely an auditory learner.

Kinesthetic learners learn best by doing. If you seem to learn best by working with your hands or testing out what you are shown, you are likely a kinesthetic learner.

So now that you know your personal learning style, the trick is to find out how to use your new-found knowledge to help you  in your classes.

Tips for Visual Learners

*Pay attention! For visual learners, this is very important! If your teacher uses a PowerPoint, watch the pictures carefully and find out what they might include and their hidden meanings.

*Take notes by drawing charts and connecting ideas instead of just copying

down a list. This way, your brain will easily connect the different concepts(概念). You can even draw pictures if you find that works better for you.

*Mark your notes or your note cards in different colors. This will help your brain in keeping all of the information separate. Different colors show different types of information or importance.

*Download the PowerPoint if your teacher puts it on QQ. This way, you canreview them before an exam.

Tips for Auditory Learners

*Again, pay attention! If you aren't listening while the lecture is happening, then as an auditory learner, you're missing the easiest way for you to learn.

*If your teacher allows you to record the lecture, record it for future listening.

*If you find that taking notes stops you from listening, ask a friend if you can borrow his or her notes or write down everything you remember right after the lesson.

 Tips for Kinesthetic Learners

*The first point is paying attention once again! For kinesthetic learners, it's especially important to take notes either by writing or typing, in order to actively get information as you receive it.

*Make use of laboratories and other class activities. Focus on what you're

learning from the experience and pay close attention to the process that you go through.

*Visualize! That is to imagine yourself picking up information and putting it into a category(类别). This may sound silly, but in this way you're “doing” something without actually physically doing it.

*Rewrite notes and reread information. Try to translate the information into examples. This can help kinesthetic learners remember what they need to know.

The Internet is becoming more and more important in our life. You can get a lot of information, make friends. share your ideas, send emails and chat at any time or anywhere. However, imagine you receive an email that looks something like this: ARE YOU GOING TO CLASS TODAY? How does reading this message make you feel? Why did the sender use all capital(大写) letters? Was he or she angry, or did that person just forget to turn off the "Cap lock" on the computer? The fact is, using all capital letters in an email means that people shout online. Virginia Shea' s book, Netiquette, lists some ways of communicating(交流) properly with others on the Internet. Following are some of her suggestions.
◆First, always remember that you are sending messages to a real person, not just to a computer. Don't write anything that you wouldn't say to someone's face. Also, remember that the receiver cannot hear your voice, or see the expression(表情)on your face, so make sure your meaning is clear.
◆Don't do anything online that you wouldn't do in real life. Don't take anything without paying for it . Don't use information that someone else has written, and say it's yours. Don't read other people's email—you wouldn't open your next –door neighbor's mailbox and open their mail, right? Do share your knowledge of the Internet with others. It's a big place with lots of information, and there are many new things to discover.
◆Remember that people judge(判断) you by your words as well as your actions, so do try to write well. Send polite, well-written email messages to others. If you're not sure about how to spell a word or which phrase to use, look it up. There are lots of helpful books and websites.
◆It's OK to share your ideas online like chat rooms or message boards, but don't argue(争吵) with people . ‘Flame wars' in online discussions can be interesting to read, but are often unfair(不公平) to other members of the group. Share your ideas, but remember that fighting on or offline is just not correct.
When you're online, just as in "real" life, try to respect (尊重) other people's space and feelings. Remember, you're not the only one traveling on this highway!

Traveling has always been a good way to relax. But this is not true for Xiao Lin(not her real name).

In November, Xiao Lin took a trip to Lijiang, a tourist city in Yunnan province, and had dinner at a restaurant. She had a fight with a group of local people because they made a joke with her while she was eating. Later, they beat her heavily and her face was injured(受伤)badly, reported CCTV.

This made the public very _________(anger). In fact, she is not the first person to be injured at famous scenic spots(景区) in China. Last month, the National Tourism Administration(国家旅游局) gave serious warnings to three national 5A scenic spots. It also asked them to change and improve in six months.

The three spots are the Old Town of Lijiang, Jingpo Lake in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang, and Laohutan ocean Park in Dalian, Liaoning. According to People's Daily, the three spots received the most complains(投诉) from visitors during this Spring Festival.

“We're sorry for our bad work,” the Old Town of Lijiang government wrote on its Sina Weibo account. “We are open to tourists' suggestions, and will make things right.”

If the three spots don't correct themselves in six months, the National Tourism Administration will remove(去除) them from the 5 A scenic spot list,  reported Guangming Daily.

“I'm glad to hear that the spots will improve themselves,” said a Sina Weibo user, who once went to Lijiang but had a bad experience there. “I hope they will change into better ones.”
