Lila has trouble(麻烦) seeing. She loves to ride her bike, but she can't see well and tell which way to turn. She loves to play basketball, but she can't 1 the ball when it comes to her. Most of all, Lila loves to go to school, but it's 2 for her to see what is on the blackboard.

    One day Lila's mother takes her to an eye doctor. The doctor 3 Lila's eyes and tells her she is going to wear glasses. At first, Lila feels   4 to wear a pair of glasses. Wang Hua is a twenty-year-old young man. Two years ago, he finished high school and found a job in a shop. Usually he works until 9 o'clock at night. He is very tired when he gets home. After a quick supper, he always goes to bed quietly. His grandma who lives downstairs (楼下) is happy with this. 

One day, on his way home, he happened to meet Zhou Weilun. They were both happy because they hadn't seen each other since graduation (毕业). They talked about their school, teachers, classmates and their future. They couldn't stop and went to Wang Hua's house together with some fruit and drinks. They went on talking there. 

"Have a look at your watch, Wang Hua. I left mine at home," Zhou Weilun said. "What time is it? Maybe I should go home. "

"Sorry, but there is something wrong with my watch," said Wang Hua. 

Wang Hua thought for a while and began to stamp (跺脚) his foot on the floor. "Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The sound woke up his grandma. The old woman shouted, "It is twelve o'clock at night, Wang Hua. Why are you still jumping upstairs?"

How did you spend your summer holiday last month? I'd like to tell you 1 happened to me during my holiday. 

My 2 planned a relaxing and happy trip. We didn't need to keep up with our work and studies. On the first day, 3 we started out for Shanghai, we saw on TV that the traffic was heavy. So my parents 4 not to drive our car but to take the bullet train(高速火车) to Shanghai. It was the first time that I had ridden on the bullet train, so I was really 5 .

Perseverance(坚持不懈)is the simplest yet the most difficult thing in the world, because everyone can do it but not everyone will do it. Only the one who can stick the simple thing out may make it.

He was an old man who fished alone in a boat and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish. In the first forty days a boy had been with him. But after forty days without a fish, the boy's parents had told him that the old man was now salao, which is the worst form of unlucky, and the boy had gone at their orders in another boat which caught three good fish the first week.

It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his boat empty and he always went down to help him carry fishing tools.

The old man was thin with deep wrinkles（皱纹） in the back of his neck. His hands had the deep scars（伤疤） from dealing with heavy fish. But none of these scars were fresh.

Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and full of confidence.

"Santiago", the boy said to him as they climbed from the bank where the boat was pulled up. "I could go with you again. We've made some money."

"No," the old man said. "You' re with a lucky boat. Stay with them."

"But remember how you went eighty-seven days without a fish and then we caught big ones every day for three weeks."

"I remember," the old man said. "I know you did not leave me willingly."

"It was papa who made me leave. I am a boy and I must do what he told me to."

"I know. I quite understand that."

"He hasn't much faith （信念）."

"No," the old man said. "But we have. Haven't we?"

"Yes," the boy said. "Can I offer you a beer on the Terrace and then we'll take the fishing tools home?"

"Why not?" the old man said. "Between fishermen."

They sat on the Terrace. Many fishermen made fun of the old man and he was not angry. Some other older fishermen looked at him and were sad. But they didn't show it and they spoke politely about the sea, the weather and of what they had seen.
