重庆市第一中学2018-2019学年高二下学期英语期中考试试卷

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

A. Learn from the past experiences

B. First and foremost, bear in mind that the key aspect of this experience is to "take some time to think".

C. No matter how much you have invested, sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is let go.

D. In today's go-go faster-faster world, you may be attracted to rush through this experience, to treat it like another task to get off your to-do list.

E. Remember the wisdom of a child

F. If you are focused on bad memories, problems, and things to complain about, they will drown your mind and your heart, and sting your life.

G. Now before you race off to do this, read the rest that provides important perspective on doing this.

    The past is good for two things: the happy memories, and the lessons it provides. Take some time to think and create two lists: One, your Top Five Most Important Lessons Learned in the Year. And two, your Top Five Favorite Memories of the Year.

    Take some time to think

    But you just invested 8760 or so hours of your life in the previous year. To pull what is worth pulling from it, to give it proper perspective and proper closure, it surely deserves some of your focused conscious energy.

    Maybe you lost half your investments this year. Or your job. Or your house. Or you faced health challenges. You may dwell on the negative, self-defeating questions like "How could I be so stupid?" or "How could God let this happen to me?" But a child doesn't touch fire, get burned, and then spend the rest of his days – or even hours – thinking bitterly how this could have happened to him. He learns not to touch the fire and twenty minutes later he is happily playing again.

    Don't bang on the beehive (蜂窝)

    When discussing the past year I have already heard so many people stating how bad it was. I hear them recalling all the bad memories. It is like banging on a beehive. Because here is a universal law: whatever you seek, you will find plenty of. Likewise, if you are focused on good memories, the beauty in the world, and things to feel grateful for, they will nourish your mind, your heart, and allow your life to blossom.

How You Open Your Car Door Matters to Cyclists

    The "Dutch reach” isn't a new dance move or a random YouTube challenge. It's a simple move that can help prevent harm to cyclists. And you might keep your car door safe in the process, too. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Typically, a person sitting in the driver's seat of a car opens the door with the hand closest to it. It makes sense since doors are designed to be opened that way.  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}But if you happen to do that at the wrong time, you may unknowingly create an obstacle for a passing cyclist. The cyclist might be knocked down off the bike. The car door is likely to be damaged by the fast-moving bicycle.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} However, the car door design and long-time habits have made the process automatically. Luckily, there's a simple way to solve the problem. Open your car door with your other hand, using the Dutch reach. So instead of using your left hand, reach for the door handle with your right hand. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}At the very least, you'll look into your side view mirror to check for any traffic.

    The Dutch are used to opening their car doors this way. All Dutch are taught it. It's part of regular driver education. The technique dates back about 50 or 60 years in the Netherlands. In 2016 an American named Michael Charney started the Dutch Reach Project. He wanted to popularize the practice in the United States. Charney's efforts may be paying off. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. This will force you to turn your body.

B. Pull the handle and the door is open.

C. It is easy to do once you are used to it.

D. All you have to do is change how you open your door.

E. People are trying to change the way to open the car.

F. Clearly, the solution is for the person exiting the vehicle to check for traffic.

G. Several states now include the Dutch reach in their drivers' handbooks.
