What do you eat every day? Some people think about it. And some people will not make plans for their meals.

    Many people like to have fast food near their offices. This kind of food can make them fat and it is bad for their health. Even it will make them ill when they are old.

   What should a healthy person eat every day? Well, I will tell you the 'healthy eating habit(习惯)'. It comes from doctors.

     When people do a lot of work, the energy is burning(燃烧). So you need noodles, rice, milk, bread and eggs. If you don't eat them, you will feel tired. You should eat fruits and vegetables, too. There are a lot of vitamins（维生素） in them. They can make you strong. And they can give you water.

    Jane is my sister. She is not very healthy. She doesn't like exercising. She just likes watching cartoons on TV every day or playing with her toys at home. Her eating habits are also not good. 她非常喜欢吃肉。 Her favorite meat is beef(牛肉). She never eats vegetables. She eats junk food three or four times a week.我父母亲想要她保持健康。They ask her to drink milk every day. But Jane thinks she can't stand(忍受) that. Although (尽管) she is not very healthy, she has one good habit. She sleeps for nine hours every night. I think it is important to keep healthy, so I hope Jane can do more exercise and eat more fruit and vegetables.

    A forest fire that burned 55 square kilometers was finally brought under control on Wednesday morning. The fire started on Sunday in Black Bear State Park and quickly spread to nearby areas.

    On Monday, police evacuated (疏散) the small town of Lawson and asked the people to leave their homes. The fire destroyed 20 homes in the area and caused heavy damage (损坏) to 40 others.

    Nobody was hurt. Officials said the damage to homes and cars was between $l million and $2 million. The fire spread quickly in the hot, dry weather. Firefighting was difficult because of strong winds. Firemen from 55 fire departments in the state joined the National Fire Service to put out the fire. Some kept fighting for 24 hours. Fire engines (消防车) and helicopters (直升机) dropped water onto the fire. In order to control the fire, firemen cleared a way around the fire.

    Police closed King Road to traffic on Tuesday because of heavy smoke. Thousands of tourists had to drive an hour north to Queen Road to pass the fire area. Local police think open fires left by tourists might be the cause of the accident and ask tourists to follow the rules in case such accidents ever happen again.

    If you have no special plans for your holidays, why not spend your time helping others?

    Don't listen to people who say the young people today often think only of themselves. It's not true at all. More and more young people in the U.S.A. volunteer to spend their school holidays working for others. And they don't do it for money. Here are some of their stories.

    On the second Sunday in May is Mother' Day, American children of all ages give their mothers to something special. It is the one day children, young and old, try to show their love to mothers. It is the day to celebrate motherhood and to thank her for all small and big things she has done for her children. However, did you know that Mother's Day celebration is no recent thing?

    In the United States, Mother's Day became an official holiday in1910. An American girl, Anna, asked her governor to set a festival for mothers for their love. And they set the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day and a year later all the other states celebrated it.

    On Mother's Day morning some American children serve their mothers breakfast in bed. Other children will give their mothers presents which they have made themselves or bought in stores. Adults give their mothers red carnations(康乃馨), the official Mother's Day flower. If their mothers left the world they may bring white carnations to their grave sites(墓地). This is the busiest day of the year for American restaurants. On her special day, family members do not want Mom to cook dinner!
