Franco lives in New York City．Last summer he1to take a trip to California．He didn't want to go by plane．He really wanted to see the United States，2he took the train there.

    The train left New York City on Monday at 10:00p m.Franco3to sleep that night,but he couldn't.He was too4because he knew this would be a wonderful trip．During the long trip，he often looked out of the window5 ． He saw large

cities，small towns,and of course the beautiful countryside．

    For about four6 ． Franco stayed on the train．At last，at 2：45 pm on Friday,the train stopped in San Francisco．Franco was happy to7the train．He called some of his friends and they had a great dinner at an Italian restaurant．On Saturday he visited a museum．On Sunday,Franco8a plane back to New York City．He looked out9the window of the plane and imagined the mountains，farms and cities below(在……下面)him After a few minutes，he closed his eyes and started to make10for his next summer holiday．

    One day a lion met a spider, who was just busy making a web. The lion 1 for a while and said, "How clever you are! How did you learn to do that?" The spider answered proudly, "I learned it from my mother."

    The lion watched a longer while. Then he asked the spider, "But why don't you catch your food in the way that I do?"

    "I am just a 2 animal," the spider replied. "I cannot run fast or fly. 3 with my web I can catch flying insects, and I don't even have to run after them."

    The lion then asked, "Could you make a 4 for me? Then I would not have to run after animals either."

    "Sorry," the spider said. "My web can only catch flying insects. But you cannot love 5 them."

    The lion was angry with the spider. She did not have to work 6 for food. And she would not help him get his 7. So he hit the web and broke it. But the spider jumped 8 the lion's back and bit him.

    "Now you will 9 me," said the spider as she jumped into the grass. "Think carefully 10 you do something bad to other animals. Some of us may be small, but we are very smart."

    The lion tried to scratch his back, but he could not reach where the spider bit. It itched(发痒)for several days. He remembered the smart spider for a long time.

    I saw my first butterfly of the spring today. I was 1 some food and other things into my house when suddenly the little lady 2 right down in front of my face.

    3 stayed there for a long time, gently dancing in the air. She was so beautiful that my eyes became filled with tears and my heart 4 with love. Then she left for some delicious flowers growing in my garden. I smiled, wiped my 5 and felt thankful for the wonder of life.

    Butterflies have held a 6 place in my heart since I lost my mother to cancer when she was 7 fifty-five years old. She used to love it when the butterflies would land near her while she worked in the 8. She would even speak to them 9 her musical voice. After she died l would 10 her whenever I saw one of those gentle angels(天使)flying by. I even told my young children that every time they saw a 11 dancing in the gentle wind, it was their grandmother saying "Hello" from 12.

    When today's butterfly dropped in to say "Hello", I once again felt joy beyond words. I felt like l was dancing on the clouds with my mother 13 a thousand angels were singing. Someone 14 say I'm cheating myself, but I know this isn't so. The moon was behind a cloud. And there weren't many stars in the sky. It was a dark night. I saw a glow (光) in my neighbor's kitchen. I thought he was having a night meal. So I went back to my bed.

Soon there was a smell of burning in the air and I thought there was probably something wrong. I jumped out of bed quickly and went out to make sure. I saw fire coming out of my neighbor's kitchen. Then I shouted, "Fire! Fire!" But no one in the neighborhood heard my shouts for help.

I ran into my house, called the firemen and went back to my neighbor's house. I knocked on the door hard and called out my neighbor's name, but there was no answer. Finally I got into the house and saved a cat and a dog.

I tried to pour water through the kitchen window but it didn't work. It was a big fire. Luckily, the firemen arrived over ten minutes later and stopped the fire.

When my neighbor came back, he was sad for his kitchen but he thanked me for calling the firemen and saving his pets. He wanted to give me some money but I did not accept it.

Weeks later, my neighbor had a new kitchen. He invited me to see his new kitchen and we enjoyed a big meal there. It made me very happy. After that, he became my best friend.

Martin is my youngest son. He likes staying alone and he seldom laughs. As the boy's mother,I was 1 about him. I took him to see the doctors in many 2 , but it didn't work well.Nothing could make him happy but the recycling truck(垃圾回收车) passing by my house. Every afternoon, he raced to the front of the house, 3 for the truck.

When we were late and 4 the truck, Martin would be very disappointed. One day, I stopped the truck and 5 myself.

"Nice to meet you, too. I'm Vince."The driver greeted me in a happy voice.

"Your coming is the most 6 moment for my son,"I smiled.

After knowing our story, he said,"Can you give me your phone number? Maybe I can send you a 7 before I arrive."I exchanged my number with him at once.

Recently, I said to him,"It's my little boy's birthday tomorrow. Could you please do 9 special for him?"

The next day, as I was standing 10 the road with Martin, we saw the green truck running down the street with a loud beep(嘟嘟声). Like a superman in a movie, Vince stopped and walked towards us with a box in his hand.

"Today is your birthday, Martin, and here's a 11 ."

He handed the box to my son. Inside, there was a green model truck like 12 . My son,surprised, looked up happily and 13 him.

After chatting for several minutes, he was about to leave for work. I tried to give him some money for his help. He kept 14 his head and refused my money, saying"Today you,tomorrow me."

I was deeply 15 by these simple words. And I have been ready to help others whenever I can. You will never know when you're going to be the one that needs help.

Christopher's mother now is sitting proudly and watching TV as Christopher is given the "Child of Courage" prize by his favorite TV star. This makes her remember the accident happened to them. 

Christopher was sitting in the car with his mother, father, sister Rosie, 10, and brother Mac, 7, when his father drove onto a metal barrier(障碍物). Unluckily, the car fell down from a hill into a deep river. Christopher, then 12, swam through a broken window and got out for the fresh air. Then he realized his brother and sister were still in the car. 

Christopher took a deep breath and swam back into the car. He saved Mac first, then he swam back to look for Rosie, who was under the cold, dark water, in the car. Christopher had to feel for her seatbelt because he couldn't see anything in the water. He took the seatbelt off her, and went up for air. Finally he went back to pull her out of the car. 

Christopher's mother and father were thrown out before the car rolled down the hill. When his mother came back to her life, she looked for her children hurriedly. She could see Mac on the bank, but she couldn't find the other ones. She was so worried. Then she saw Christopher come up out of the water like a dolphin with Rosie on his shoulder. She shouted excitedly to Christopher down to the river, "I'm so proud of you. "

The family called for an ambulance (救护车). It took Christopher's father who was badly hurt to a nearby hospital immediately.
