Jones offered free haircuts to countless homeless men for a year. His1came to him after giving money to a man on the street. He2what else he could do to help. He then decided to 3for people who needed help and offer free haircuts on the street.

     He gives not only help but also good luck. His very first customer even 4a full-time job not long after Jones' service.

     Deeply touched by what Jones did, David, the5of "Taper's Barbershop", decided to give Jones his newly decorated shop, completely free of charge. His goal was to provide Jones with the 6and tools he needed to continue helping others during the winter months.

    David said 'well, this building is sitting here. Do you 7it?'And Jones said yes. David gave Jones the keys and said, 'It's 8now."

    Jones is now able to keep helping the homeless in his new shop,9David. He has devoted Mondays to giving the homeless free haircuts,10 the shop is called "Makeover Mondays". Jones said he would continue helping others, because it could bring him inner peace and happiness.

Should We Help Strangers?

Recently our class had a discussion about {#blank#}1{#/blank#} we should help strangers or not. Different students have different {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (idea).

Some think {#blank#}3{#/blank#}we should try to help strangers. Helping others is a virtue (美德), and helping others is helping {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (we). We may come across some trouble and need others' help some day. If everyone isn't willing to help us just {#blank#}5{#/blank#}we are strangers to them, it's hard to imagine {#blank#}6{#/blank#} our world will be like.

However, some worry {#blank#}7{#/blank#} helping others can sometimes bring us trouble. Sometimes we are just misunderstood and even have to pay the cost of kindness.

In my opinion, we should try our best {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (help) others when they are in need of help, but we should also avoid {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (get) into trouble. If everyone tries a little kindness, our world{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(be) full of love.

For 16-year-old Ma Yifei, the violin performance of the Beijing 2022 Olympic theme song, Snowflake (雪花), was her best present for Paralympians (残奥运动员)all over the world. Even though snowflakes are related to winter, she let others feel warmth, hope and light through her performance.

Ma went blind at the age of two because of an illness. She became interested in music when she was young.

She started to learn to play the piano at five and the violin at nine, experiencing the "colorful" music through sound and emotion

Ma's mother Ha Chunyan, a former music teacher in a primary school, helped her memorize the music score (乐谱)before she played the piano. Ma could not see the keys and always played the wrong notes. It took her thousands of tries to play a piece correctly. 

Learning the violin was more challenging. Ma needed to feel the teacher hands, arms and back to learn the movements, and listen to the strings (弦) over and over again to feel the muscles(肌肉)herself.

"After three years of learning, she still could not make any sound except terrible noises, "said Ha, who advised her daughter to give up the violin. But Ma said, "As I've been practising so long, it's hard to give up I believe I will play better if I persist in practising. "

In 2018, Ma got a chance to follow Sheng Yuan and Cao Yuhan, famous musicians from the Central Conservatory of Music, to study music in Beijing. She left her home in Ningxia to follow her musical dream, though she knew there would be more challenges ahead.

Ma expressed her excitement about performing at the big event. "All my hard work has paid off. I'm proud of standing on the stage today. "

Mr. and Mrs. Smith have a food store in our town. When people go to their store, they' re polite (有礼貌的) and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to them. So, they have many friends and {#blank#}2{#/blank#} friends often go to their store to buy things or just to talk with them.

I used to hate running. In secondary school, I found it really tiring to run and I was always one of the1 students to cross the finish line. Then, in 2023, my friend asked me 2 I would like to run a 10K event with him. I answered without thinking, "No way! I hate running."

 Over the weekend, I3 his question. "Why do I hate running when I haven't tried it since Year 7 in secondary school?" In the end, I decided I should give running another4 before I said I hated it. I told my friend I would like to go to the 10K event with him. He was happy to hear that I would5 him. He advised me to look on the Internet for a running program to help me learn 6 to run.

 There were lots of running programs on the Internet. I7 a 14-week running program that would teach me how to run for 30 minutes non-stop. I enjoyed following the program as I could see8 in my running each week. I went from hating running to loving running!

 On the day of the 10K running event, my friends and father came to 9 for me. With their support(支持) and my training, I finished the 10K in 72 minutes. It was difficult, but I felt very proud for having tried it. From this 10 , I learned that it is a good idea to try something before saying you hate it!
