Mr Black was a businessman （商人） and he was very rich （有钱的）.One day he went on a trip to the countryside with his 5-year-old son Henry. He wanted to show his son how poor people lived, so they spent a day and a night on the farm of a very poor family.

    When they got back from their trip, Mr Black asked Henry, “My dear son, how was your trip?”“Very good, dad!”“Did you see how poor people lived?”the father asked. “Yes!” “And what did you learn?”Henry answered, “We have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that is in the middle of the garden and they have a river that has no end. We have expensive lamps (灯) in the garden and they have stars.”

    When little Henry finished, Mr Black was speechless(无话可说的).

    There was once a man called Mr. Flowers, and flowers were his only joy in life. He spent all his free time in one of his four glass-houses and grew flowers of every color, with long and difficult names, for competitions（比赛）. He tried to grow a rose of a new color to win the silver cup（银杯）for the Rose of the Year.

    Mr. Flowers' glass-houses were very near to a middle school. Boys of around thirteen of age were often tempted（引诱）to throw a stone or two at one of Mr. Flowers' glass-houses. So Mr. Flowers did his best to be in or near his glass-houses at the beginning and end of the school day.

    But it was not always possible to be on watch at those times. Mr. Flowers had tried in many ways to protect his glass, but nothing that he had done had been useful. He had been to school to report to the headmaster; but this had not done any good. He had tried to drive away the boys that threw stones into his garden; but the boys could run faster than he could, and they laughed at him from far away. He had even picked up all the stones that he could find around his garden, so that the boys would have nothing to throw; but they soon found others.

    At last Mr. Flowers had a good idea. He put up a large notice（布告）made of good, strong wood, some meters away from the glass-houses. On it he had written the words: DO NOT THROW STONES AT THIS NOTICE. After this, Mr. Flowers had no further trouble; the boys were much more tempted to throw stones at the notice than at the glass-houses.

On March 5, Emory University （艾莫里大学）reported that Zhang Yide, a first-year Chinese student committed suicide(自杀) and died at the age of 19. The excellent student suddenly died without warning. 

When Zhang Yide was one year old, his parents divorced(离婚). His mother left him, and he was raised by his father Zhang Yue alone. His father, a former corporate executive(企业高管), left his job to accompany his son. After returning to the countryside, Yide's father taught Yide to read and write. His father recorded all the experiences of Yide through photos and words, and built a "growing up museum cabinet"(成长博物柜) for his child. Yide is an intelligent child. When he graduated from high school, Yide was admitted to Emory University, which is known as "Harvard in the south of the United States". He scored 118 in TOEFL. And he also did very well in some competitions. Everybody thought he was excellent, hard-working and self-disciplined(自律的).

We don't know why he chose to commit suicide. But we have to think about a question: how should we correctly face our problems and difficulties and deal with them?

A group of students visited their teacher after leaving school for many years. All of them talked about {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(problem) in their work and lives. It seemed that they were not satisfied with themselves. 

Then {#blank#}2{#/blank#} teacher went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and many kinds of cups — china, plastic and glass. He told them {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(help) themselves to the coffee. 

When all the students had a cup of coffee in their hands, the teacher said {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(slow), "Have you noticed that all the nice-looking and expensive cups have been taken and the common ones have been left behind? Maybe it is not wrong to choose the best things {#blank#}5{#/blank#} yourselves. However, it is the source(根源) of all your trouble. Does the cup itself add anything to the coffee? Of course not. It is just a tool to hold {#blank#}6{#/blank#} you drink. "

"It was coffee that you really wanted, not the cups, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} you all went for the best cups and then began to watch others' cups. Life is the coffee while jobs, money and the social positions are the cups. Coffee is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(important) than cups. The cups don't decide what your life is. " All the students understood {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the teacher said. 

Sometimes if we pay attention to the cups, we will not enjoy the coffee. The people {#blank#}10{#/blank#} are the happiest in the world may not have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
