Motorcyclists born to ride supplies to firefighters

Chongqing motorcyclists are being hailed as heroes for volunteering to transport much-needed supplies to the fire and rescue workers fighting the wildfires caused by prolonged heat and drought across multiple districts in the municipality.

As of Wednesday, Chongqing has issued a red alert, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} most severe in the four-tier warning system, for high temperatures for 16 consecutive days.

In the scorching heat and drought conditions, multiple wildfires have ravaged many parts of Chongqing. As of Tuesday, several large wildfires have been brought {#blank#}2{#/blank#} control with the joint efforts of the fire and rescue workers, social organizations and residents. No casualties have been reported.

Facing the tough situation, the city government called for volunteers with {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(relate) skills and experience to join the firefighting, and a large number of {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(motorcyclist) have played an important role and won widespread praise.

I'd say I quarrel with my parents a lot.Throughout high school,I was always jealous(羡慕的) of some of my friends who didn't seem to have those problems at home,but I've come to see over the years that no one's situation is perfect.

As a student in Pakistan, it had always been my dream {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (come) to China and immerse myself in its culture and events.In 2022, my dream finally came true. I arrived in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, to study at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.

Last September an American started a trip through Southwest China on a standard bike she had bought at a local shop. In three months, Jennifer Holstein cycled 2,500 kilometers through three provinces with just two small bags.

Living in Beijing, her life was already great. But Holstein felt the urge to travel the world and look for adventure. It was mid-August of 2021 that the idea came to her to travel China by bicycle. At that time, Holstein had never cycled for more than 20 kilometers around her local city of Beijing.

Holstein shared an experience from the beginning of her trip when she found herself stuck in a tunnel (隧道) with a flat tire (轮胎). It was dark and hot, and she was so scared because she had never changed a tire before. Suddenly, a group of cyclists old enough to be her grandparents came and rescued her.

In addition to receiving the kindness of people across China, Holstein also experienced several unique cultural experiences by attending three local weddings. She spoke about one wedding in detail, "I was in the middle of a small village in Sichuan province, and I was taken into a local Tibetan family's home and they invited me to take part in a wedding. They gave me a dress and even did my makeup. I never thought I would ever have the chance to take part in a Tibetan wedding."

According to Holstein, "Many people want to travel the world and take huge risks, but never do. Don't just live your life hoping your wildest dreams will become a reality someday. Try first and the rest will work itself out." In addition to biking for her own passion and curiosity, Holstein also linked her ride to raise 22,000 yuan for the United Foundation for China's Health.

I was at the grocery shop1 last-minute items for Easter dinner when I 2 from the corner of my eye the most wonderful flower I had ever seen. It was, as I later learned, a peony (牡丹).

I was so3 that I was going to buy myself flowers. I'd4 done this before. On the way home, I wondered why I had never really been5 to any flowers before.6 , I'd been on this earth for over half a century.

We also built an underground oven (烤炉), where Mom and Dad would make flatbread (薄面饼). The smell of this flatbread12 us and anchored (使扎根) us to our lives in England. When Mother's Day came, Mom would say, "Why waste money on flowers? They'll just die. Buy shoes or coats instead." So, we kids made food for her at home. My mother 13 years ago after a long illness. If she were still alive today, she' d probably 14 her head at me for buying flowers.15 , I still wish I'd had the chance to show her this beautiful flower and buy it for her on Mother's Day
