Bill, Frank, Dave and Tom were brothers. Every year they sent their mother expensive gifts on her birthday. They liked to show her how rich they were.

The eldest brother, Bill, had lots of money and wanted his mother to have the most expensive gift, but he didn't know what to buy. So he put an ad in the newspaper, "Wanted—the greatest gift for my mother”.

 About a week before his mother's birthday, a man came to his office. He brought a big bird, this bird can speak foreign languages and sing pop songs. The man made the bird talk in French and tell a joke in Japanese. Then the bird sang a beautiful song. The next day, Bill sent the bird to  his mother with a birthday card.

 The day after his mother's birthday, he called his mother, “Well, mother,” he asked, “what do you think of the bird?”"Oh, it's very delicious, dear." said his mother.

    Recently, I happened to hear a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport as the daughter prepared to leave.

They hugged and the mother said "I love you and I wish you enough."They kissed and the daughter left.

    The mother walked over to the window where I sat. Standing there, I could see she was going to cry. I tried not to disturb her but she welcomed me by asking "Have you ever said goodbye to someone knowing it would be forever?"

  "Yes," I replied. "But may I know why this is the final goodbye?"

  "I am ill and she lives so far away. It's highly possible that the next trip back will be for my funeral(葬礼)"she said.

  "When you were saying goodbye, I heard you say 'I wish you enough'. May I ask what that means?"

  "That's a wish that has been handed down from past generations. My parents used to say it to everyone." She paused for amoment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled evenmore.

  "When we say 'I wish you enough', we want the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to bewith them". Then turning to me, she shared the following:

  "I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright."

  "I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more."

There was an old mule(骡子). One day accidentally he fell into the farmer's well. The farmer thought for a while and said to himself that neither the well nor the old mule was important to him. So he decided to use soil to bury the old mule in the well.

    Then the farmer called his neighbours and they started to put the soil into the well together. The old mule was quite afraid in the beginning. But soon one hopeful idea came to his mind - every time when a shovel(铁铲) of soil landed on his back, he would shake it off and step up!

He said these words to himself again and again, "Shake it off and step up." This way he could fight against the panic (恐慌) and encourage himself. After some time, the mule had stepped over the well's wall. Although terribly tired, he was the winner and he saved his own life. He decided to face his difficulty bravely and not to give up, and finally he won.

    It's the Chinese New Year today. Sam gets a red packet from his grandma. That's his favourite part of the festival. He gets four dollars and goes shopping in Chinatown.

    There are a lot of interesting things on the streets — fireworks, lion dances and delicious foods. Then Sam sees an old man. The man sleeps in the street. He doesn't wear shoes. “He doesn't have a home. What a poor man!” Sam thinks.

    At a toy shop, Sam wants to buy a toy Monkey King. But it's six dollars. Sam wants to go back home and get more money. On the way, he sees the old man again. “Why not give the four dollars to him? He can use the lucky money to buy some hot food and drinks,” Sam thinks.

    He gives the money to the old man and goes back home. His grandma knows his story and gives him a big hug (拥抱). What a good boy!

    Born on January 1,1976, Rudy grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. She is the eldest children of her family. She has one a year younger brother and the other one six years younger. Her father was a businessman, and her mother was a housewife. Her English name was from her mother's love of the jewel. When Lin was seven years old, her parents broke their marriage. She lived with her mother. She graduated from Ri Xin Primary School and Zhong Dian High School. She planned to go to England to study after high school graduation.

However, in her second year of high school, she first got involved in film and TV industry. So she went to have a try. She told herself that if her filming career didn't take off, she could still go back to school. When she received her first experience in front of the camera in 1995, acting a minor role, she became interested in acting. After filming her first TV commercial, Lin caught the attention of TV and film directors. In 1995, Lin received her first role in a film called School Day. The same year, she also acted as the supporting role in Taiwanese TV dramas. In 1996, Lin went to mainland China for the first time to film. She considered it as a valuable experience and the time that she began to learn about acting. In 1997, Lin became popular as the beloved Princess Ziwei in the series called My Fair Princess.

    In 2000, she worked in Hong Kong TVB's production of The Duke of Mount Deer with Dicky Cheung, Shu Qi and other well-known performers. As Lin felt she had achieved all she could in television, she also appeared in three Hong Kong films in 2000. Since 2001, Lon has focused on her career I mainland China and became successful. In 2002, she appeared in the romantic TV series Boy & Girl which was broadcast throughout China by CCTV. With this series, Lin was selected one of the Top 10 actresses of the year. Of those 10 actresses, she was the only one from Taiwan. From then, she became more and more famous. Though her parents didn't agree her to be an actress at first, they finally accepted it for her success and passion.
