阅读理解

Our new foreign students are going to arrive very soon, and here are some ways to communicate with them politely.

How close do you stand when you talk to a friend? You can stand close to people in the Middle East but don't stand too close to North Americans! Give them more personal space.

Do you know how to touch people correctly? Chinese girls often walk arm in arm with their friends. South Americans sometimes hold your arm when they talk to you, so you can't move away! But in Britain many people don't like other people touching them at all.

Do you look at people when you talk? In some places, it isn't polite to look at people when they talk, but in other countries it isn't polite to look somewhere else .In Britain and the US, people usually look at each other when they talk.

Is there anything you' ve only done ONCE? Write to Sundaymail and tell us your story!

About four years ago, I was on holiday and one day, one of my friends said, ' There's a bungee jumping place near here! Let's go!'I'd never done anything like that before, but I went anyway. I wish I hadn't gone! I was scared. I stood there with the rope round my ankle and I was really sweating. In the end, I just panicked and said, "I can't do this', so they took the rope off. My friend laughed and said, ' If only I'd taken a photo! That was so funny!'I felt really stupid.

Paul, USA

Last year, I went to a beach park. There was a waterslide which was 41 meters high. It might sound like fun, but it was one of the most scary moments of my life. When I started to fall,  I thought, "" I was shaking the whole time. I still don't know how I did it, and I was crying for about fifteen minutes afterwards and I will never do that again, believe me.

Roseli, Brazil

When my older brother got married, he asked me if I'd make a speech at the wedding. I'd never done that before, but I said,' Sure, OK." Before the wedding, I thought of a few nice things to say and a couple of jokes. Easy! But on the day, just before I had to speak, I started to get nervous. I was biting my nails and everything. When I stood up, my mouth went dry and I even started to tremble(颤抖)! I stumbled through about two minutes of something and sat down again. Two years later, I did a course on public speaking. If only I'd thought of doing that before the wedding!

Hanif, UK

One year ago, we all went to a Mexican restaurant. It was my first time, so I didn't know anything about Mexican food. My friends told me about jalapeño peppers, and he persuaded me to try one. To be fair, he told me they were really powerful, and I was a bit anxious when I bit it. At first, it seemed OK, but then it exploded in my mouth! I started to breathe hard and I had to drink about a hundred glasses of water! That's something I won't do again.

 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。

Today, it is a big problem for young people to get fine jobs after they leave university. It is said that there are thousands of different kinds of jobs in the world.    But choosing the right one often worries young people.

Finding a job is not the same as choosing a job. Many young people end up in jobs that they are not suitable for. Here are a few steps to help you think about jobs which you might enjoy doing after school or university.

First, it is important to know what kind of person you are, which special qualities make you better than others and what you are interested in. There is a difference between an interest and a skill. If you like art and enjoy looking at pictures, that is an interest. But if you can draw a horse that looks like a horse not a big dog, that is a skill.

Then ask yourself a question, "In the following three areas-skills with people, skills with information and skills with things, which are my best skills?"

After finding out your best skills, the next step is to do research. To find out as many different kinds of jobs as possible, you should go to the library and read books, magazines and newspapers for information. Ask your friends what they think of the work they do.

The last step is to trust your own ideas and your own thinking! It is your own life. so just find the job you really enjoy doing.
