Once upon a time, there was a tree which wanted to become a treasure box. One day, a farmer cut it down and sold it to a carpenter(木匠). The tree was happy because he thought the carpenter would make it into a treasure box.

    To its surprise, the carpenter made it into a feed box for animals. The tree felt very disappointed because that was not its dream. Several years later, the feed box was thrown away. Someone picked it up and placed it into an old temple. The tree forgot its dream little by little.

    One day, a couple came to the temple. The woman gave birth to a baby boy. There wasn't a bed in the temple. So they placed the baby in the feed box. They loved him and regarded him as their treasure. The tree suddenly realized that it became a real "treasure box" at that time.

    Sometimes you may think your dream will not come true. Don't forget your dream. It may be realized in another new way.

    When I was five years old, I took a boat out on the river and went fishing by myself. I really wanted to catch a fish! But they were not biting. I stayed in my boat for three days, waiting. A few times, I thought I felt a fish at the end of the line. The first time I pulled in my catch, it was not a fish; it was an old bag. The second time, it was a shoe. Finally, at the end of the third day, I felt a strong pull at the end of the line. The pull was so strong that my boat raced around and around. I needed all my power just to hold onto the fishing rod. I pulled, and I pulled and I caught the biggest fish that ever swam on the earth! It was heavier than everyone in this room put together! Then something terrible happened! After I pulled the huge fish into my boat, I saw that the boat was going under water! Water was coming into the boat from all sides! I was not a very good swimmer, so I was scared.

    Although it was the hardest choice I ever made, I had to let the fish go. I pushed it back over the side of the boat, and we waved good-bye to each other as it swam away.

"Color, color, color!"are the words of artist Eric Carle. Eric is like the king in the world of children's books. He has written over 70 children's books. His most famous book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, is common on children's bookshelves all over the world. What most people don't know is that Eric also makes art for adults, which is called"ArtArt". People didn't know about it,because he didn't show it to the public until he was 84 years old!

Like Eric's children's books, his"ArtArt"is full of bright and clear color.He says that he loves color so much because he missed it during the war in Germany. Eric was born in New York in 1929, but moved to Germany with his family when he was 6. When he was 10, World War II began. He noticed that all the houses and buildings in his town were painted gray, brown or dark green. It was a sad time, and it seemed like there was no color anywhere.

At the end of the war,"When color came back,"Eric explains,"I just loved it so much. I keep saying that I wish our eyes could see more colors. Color is a very important part of my work."

That's true. Eric paints bright colors on paper, cuts out shapes, and then glues them onto another piece of paper. This method is called collage(拼贴画).In fact, it is what led Eric to his"ArtArt".

Eric's"ArtArt"includes large collages as well as paintings, photographs and even costumes. In all these works, he uses all kinds of colors —— everything from purple to light green to orange. Now that's a lot of color!
