My father was a restaurant owner. My name is Vincent Lim. I'm a chef and restaurant owner. Running a Chinese restaurant is one of the hardest and most1 things in my life.

When we first arrived in Australia, my dad2 a Chinese restaurant. I would go there on a3 basis to help him out. And slowly I developed my4 for cooking. The hard work that my dad put into Chinese food makes me feel so proud that I am lucky enough to learn from a5

The first dish that I ever learned to cook was the fried rice, which is the easiest but also the 6 one to get right. From years of experience, I can7 you the difference between a good fried rice just from the feel and from the smell, without even taking a bite.

To lots of Chinese immigrants like us, the restaurant isn't just a business. It's a sense of 8 . The wok hei (锅气)9 every ingredient in the wok, producing an appealing smell. The weather in Texas may have cooled since the recent extreme heat, but the temperature will be high at the State Board of Education meeting in Austin this month as officials debate how climate change is taught in Texas schools.

Pat Hardy, who agrees with the views of the energy department, is resisting proposed changes to science standards for pre-teen pupils. These would emphasize the significance of human activity in recent climate change and encourage discussion of reduction measures.

Most scientists and experts sharply argue against Hardy's views. "They casually view the career work of scholars and scientists as just another misguided opinion," says Dan Quinn, senior communications strategist at the Texas Freedom Network, a non-profit group that monitors public education. Such debates reflect fierce discussions across the US and around the world, as researchers, policymakers, teachers and students step up demands for a greater focus on teaching about the facts of climate change in schools.

A study, looking at how state public schools across the country address climate change in science classes, gave barely half of US states a grade B+ or higher. Among the 10 worst performers were some of the most populous states, including Texas, which was given the lowest grade (F) and has a huge influence because its textbooks are widely sold elsewhere.

Glenn Branch, the center's deputy director, cautions that setting state-level science standards is only one limited norm in a country that decentralizes (使分权)decisions to local school boards. Even if a state is considered a high performer in its science standards, "that does not mean it will be taught", he says.

Branch points out that, even if a growing number of official guidelines and textbooks reflect scientific consensus (共识) on climate change, unofficial educational materials that convey more biased(带有偏见的) perspectives are being distributed to teachers. They include materials sponsored by libertarian think-tanks(智库) and energy industry associations.

 {#blank#}5{#/blank#} impressed me most was an interview I did for Teens about what my classmates thought about the school's monitoring of students'emotions. I had a very {#blank#}6{#/blank#} （heat） discussion with my friend. His insightful （有洞见的） and logical ideas inspired me. It is precisely （正是） because of this interview {#blank#}7{#/blank#} I started to pay more attention to logic and look at things from many angles in my subsequent（之后的） writing for Teens. What's more, I also boosted my skills in writing argumentative essays in the Chinese exam. I am very grateful to Teens {#blank#}8{#/blank#} giving me this chance to improve {#blank#}9{#/blank#} （I） in many aspects!

In the future, I will keep writing and working hard. I believe that Teens has {#blank#}10{#/blank#} bright future.

Dominic Richard loves cycling. In 2023, he ordered a new bike from a factory in Shanghai and flew there {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (pick) it up in person. However, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} followed was jaw-dropping. Instead of flying back, he determined to ride back alone to the UK.

Richard cycled through cities and countries, taking in the sights along the way. He started in Shanghai, where after successfully picking up his new bike he began the journey. Considering all the possible challenges, he travelled light. The bike {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (equip) with a carbon frame and tubeless tires, meaning no worry about a flat tire on route. He had a sleeping mat that kept him {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (comfort) at night and bags to pack his clothing and equipment in. Battling a burning heat wave, he cycled across the vast expanse of China, often resting by the side of the road. People were curious {#blank#}5{#/blank#} his journey along the way. Now and then Richard got {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (invite) to many natives' houses for free lunch and supplies, with truck drivers and cyclists {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (stop) him along the road to chat.

Fortunately, after the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (impress) long ride, Richard made {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to his home in the UK. "Thanks to this experience, I got {#blank#}10{#/blank#} better understanding of amazing China and found a better self."

There is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} lovely panda. She lives with her parents and they lead a happy life in the forest. One day the panda {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (pick) a huge pumpkin and wanted to take it home. But the pumpkin was too big for her {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (take) it home on her own. She could do nothing but sit beside the pumpkin. She thought {#blank#}4{#/blank#} if she waited there, she might turn to a passerby for help.

Suddenly, she saw a bear {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (ride) a bike towards her. She watched the bike and suddenly, she jumped and shouted {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (happy), "I know! I have a good idea—I can roll (滚动) the pumpkin. It's just like a wheel!" Therefore, she rolled the pumpkin to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (she) house. When her mother saw the big pumpkin, which was {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (big) than her little daughter, she was {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (surprise), "Oh, my God! How can you get it home?" The little panda answered proudly, "I can't lift it, but I can roll it." Her mother smiled and said, "{#blank#}10{#/blank#} a clever girl you are!"
