Sam wants to be a musician. When he was a young kid，he loved music very much. Now he enjoys playing many instruments such as the guitar，the violin and the drum  but he loves playing the piano most.

Sam has wanted to be a musician since he first learned to play the piano. He likes to play the piano because it always makes him quiet when he is angry or sad. Also，he likes to listen to all kinds of music. 

He'd like to be a musician and play great music in his concerts. He hopes his friends and many other people will go to his concerts. Then he can get a lot of money from the concerts and give all the money to other children who need money. 

Of course，he will have to practice very hard if he wants to be a musician. We hope that he can become a musician. Then he'll be very happy and do some things to help many people. 

Here is a story: A man sees a butterfly (蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis (蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn't struggle (挣扎，奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can't fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges (挑战) of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly.

When people are young, meeting and overcoming (克服) challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father's death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.

Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.

Mr. Green is my uncle. He is 37 years old now. He has a house with a big garden. He has some apple trees in his garden. He looks after（照顾） them. Now there are many apples on the trees and my uncle is very happy.

 One afternoon when he looks out of the window，he sees a boy in a red T-shirt in his apple tree. He opens the window and shouts， "Hey，what are you doing there？Come down and get away. Or I'll go to see your father. "

The boy is not afraid（害怕）of my uncle at all. "Dad，" he looks up and shouts， "Mr. Green wants to see you." My uncle smiles， "Ha，it's my son，Dave." What an interesting story it is! Share it with your family and friends.

Nigeria is a hot and dry country in Africa where electricity is not available to many homes. Most people grow and sell their own fruit and vegetables. Keeping them fresh in the hot place is a real challenge. Without a fridge, most fresh food goes bad in a couple of days. Throwing away the food means losing money for poor families. Eating the bad food causes serious health problems. 

Local teacher Mohammed Bah Abba was worried about this problem and decided to solve it. As a boy born into a family of clay pot（陶罐）makers, Mohammed knew that these traditional clay pots could keep water even when dry. In the 1990s he used this traditional knowledge and his understanding of science to invent a cooling system（冷却系统）. It worked as a"desert fridge". 

Mohammed's cooling system is made up of two pots —a small pot inside a larger pot. In the space between the two clay pots, there is wet sand. People put the fruit and vegetables in the smaller pot, and cover it with a wet cloth（布）. Then they leave the larger pot in a dry place. When water from the sand evaporates（蒸发）, it causes the temperature in the pots to go down. This way the food in the smaller pot is cool. 

With the pot-in-pot cooling system, food stays fresh much longer. Mohammed's "desert fridge" has improved the lives of thousands of people. So in 2001 he won the Rolex Award for Enterprise, which is for the people who try to make the world a better place. 

A TV show—Chinese Poetry Competition (中国诗词大会) has become popular with many people. Now let's interview some students from our school and listen to what they said.

Can you imagine(想象) your life with no smartphones or TV? With no cars or supermarkets? Can you imagine life in a tree house?

 In her book, A life in the Trees, Rebecca Moore travels 15,000 kilometers from London to Papua New Guinea. In Papua New Guinea, Rebecca meets the Kombai people. She talks about their lives in the jungle(丛林).

 Moore lived with the Kombai women and children for three months. Kombai life is very different. The Kombai people have no watches and no cars. There is no school for the children. Parents teach their children to cook, hunt(狩猎) and swim.

 The Kombai get up every morning at sunrises. Kombai men hunt in the jungle. They can hunt for 12 hours. They also cut down sago palms(西米棕榈). This tree is important. The women cook the inside of the tree. The Kombai people eat this food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 The most important part of Kombai life is building their tree houses. The men, women and children all help build tree houses. Each house is 20 meters high. The stories in this book which has been written in Japanese and Chinese show the Kombai people's lives in the trees.
