Running a marathon(马拉松) is not easy. To run a marathon you have to run over 42 km! Think about it this way: 42 km is the same as running around a football field(足球场) more than 100 times. It takes most people about four or five hours to finish.
30-year-old Lea Tambellini has run more than five marathons before and doesn't want to stop. Her parents have a strong love for marathons and when she was 22, they helped her train for her first marathon.
Lea ran her first marathon in Cincinnati, Ohio, US. "I worried a lot about the race," she said, "but my mum ran with me. That helped."Running the race was hard, but the hardest part was when she ran past a restaurant and smelled(闻到)hamburgers. "I just wanted to stop," she said,"but my mum kept me running."
To get ready for one of the marathons, Lea ran four to five times a week. On weekdays, she ran 8 or 9 km. But at the weekend she ran 20 km, 25 km and 30 km!
"I like training because it is exciting to work hard for something. And I love running with friends," said Lea.
We usually think fish can't talk. But there are a lot of sounds under the ocean. In fact, scientists believe that all sea animals – at least 250,000 kinds – can "speak"! If we stay focused when diving (潜水), "we can hear animals all around us," UK scientist Steve Simpson told the BBC.
In the past years, scientists used sound recorders to hear fish's "voices". There are now thousands of recorders in the ocean. They help scientists match sounds with sea life.
A healthy coral reef (珊瑚礁) is one of the noisiest places in the ocean. Scientists can tell if it's healthy by listening to it. A healthy coral reef should be full of clicks (咔嚓声) made by shrimps (小虾). When some coral reefs died in 2015 and 2016, they became quiet. After people set up the protected areas, scientists heard the animals come back.
By listening to the ocean, scientists start to understand sea animals' languages. Strong clownfish (小丑鱼) make short "chirp(啁啾声)" sounds when going after small clownfish. A damselfish(小热带鱼) can create a pop sound to scare other fish by quickly opening and closing its mouth. Mother dolphins can use a special voice to talk to their babies. They are saying "I'm here" to comfort the baby dolphins.
Scientists are building an online library called the Global Library of Underwater Biological Sounds(全球水下生物声音库). It will collect sounds from all over the world to check sea animals' health. Humans need to understand the sounds made by underwater animals before they die out.
①Now, students and teachers have more chances to use technology(科技) in schools. But how much technology should be used in the classroom?
②The biggest advantage of technology in the classroom today is that information is readily got. Students can simply type (打字)a question and receive a list of websites with useful information. If a teacher wanted to show a short video in a class 20 years ago, the teacher had to keep the part on the video tape first. Videos are much easier to show today, and a teacher can simply find the video on Douyin. In this way, both teachers and students can get large amounts of information quickly.
③Another advantage is the amount of resources(资源)that can help students learn in the classroom. Now, there are apps, videos, games, and online resources that make lessons more interesting and effective(有效的). Technology can also help students study the same lesson by different methods(方法).
④With all the advantages that technology brings into the classroom, there are some disadvantages. The biggest disadvantage may be lower quality (质量) of research and student work. Because of so many online resources, it is easier to turn to the Internet for research. Often, it's difficult for a student to choose the right information. Also, with so much research done through the Internet, a student may not even know how to find useful information in the library. Another one is that technology can stop the learner from real learning. A teacher might try to use technology to make a lesson more interesting, but the technology itself can catch students' attention(注意) rather than the lesson. It can also keep students from acting actively in the classroom.
⑤How much technology should be used in the classroom is under discussion. It is sure that technology is here to stay. The best way may be a balance of both technology and traditional learning methods.
Being green means protecting the environment in our daily life. The best way to do this is buying green products. But how do we know if a product is really green?
First, we should look at the materials of the products. Green products are made of natural materials. This is good for our health.
Second, where a product is made and where we buy it are also important. We should try to buy local products, especially food.Buying from shops near our homes is also a good idea, because we can go there without driving a car.
We should choose products that have glass, paper or other packaging that can be reused or recycled(可回收的). We should also try to buy products that have less packaging or no packaging at all.
The greenest thing we can do is not to buy unnecessary products.
A.We can order directly from local farmers. B.We need to think about everything of the product. C.Packaging is another thing we should think about. D.We should only buy things we really need, like food and clothes. |

I learned a lot from my mother, a great woman. When I was a child, she always told me, "Sharing 1 is an easy act. You don't have to do much to make others happy." I didn't fully understand it until my friend Helen told me about her amazing trip to a small town called Gary. Then, I 2 to go there, too.
However, my parents didn't 3 at first when knowing my plan. They said I didn't know much about the place. They worried about my 4 there. After I told my plan to them in detail(详细地), they 5 said yes.
After arriving in Gary, I 6 the town was so different from where I lived. There were few stores or restaurants in the town, so you would be 7 enough to find a place to buy food or drinks. Houses were built on small hills and 8 of them had broken doors or windows. My job was to help the local people to9 their houses. The workdays were long and hot, 10 it was really good to see the houses taking on a new look day by day.
The kids there were also different. They seemed to enjoy every moment in life though they were poor. The small things could make them 11 . I couldn't find words to describe their joy when they received an ice cream, a ball or 12 a hug. The community was like a big family. Everyone knew each other and was ready to 13 help.
What a wonderful 14 I had in Gary! I truly learned the 15 of what my mother said, "You don't need to do much to make others happy."

Do you often leave your keys at home when you go out? Or, do you often keep your TV or computer when you don't use them? However, in the near future, we will live in smart houses . These houses are better than many apartments now. And they will make our life much . When we leave home each morning, the TV and computer will turn off. When you get home each evening, everything will be ready. It's pretty cool. However, people will do less exercise, scientists suggest everyone playing sports in the future.
I live in a small town. Our town sits on a large (山)overlooking the ocean. It's a pgood place to live, with fresh air and beautiful views. The p isn't too big, so it's quiet and peaceful. We have a small school, a few (市场),and a park where everyone gathers on sunny days.
Living in my town does have its challenges, though. Walking or r bikes can be tiring when you're heading uphill. Sometimes, it gets windy, and the wind can be much (强烈的)than down below.
There are some things we miss out on, lhaving a big shopping mall or a movie theatre nearby. But we have a strong community spirit, and everyone knows each other. We help each other out, and there's always someone to lend a hand, (尤其) when people get into trouble.
Overall, I think our living environment is nice. It's not (完美的),but it's home, and it's definitely better than living in a crowded(拥挤的), n city. We have fresh air, beautiful views, and a close-knit community. What more could you ask for?
A man in Shanwei in eastern Guangdong Province rented 12 trucks to protect his restaurant against typhoon Saola, which became a piece of hot news.
The restaurant is just over 100 (metre) away from the sea,but it did not experience any loss from Saola, according to Southern Metropolis Daily. "The tall, huge and strong trucks can protect the restaurant from the typhoon,"said the restaurant owner, Mr Lin. Lin even loaded mud(装载泥浆)onto the trucks to make (they) heavy enough to keep strong when the typhoon came. Typhoon Saola resulted in a rainstorm in Shanwei. 68(lucky),it did not do any harm to his restaurant.
These trucks cost Lin (much) than 20,000 yuan. Some people thought it was unnecessary to protect the restaurant by (spend) so much money on the trucks. However, Lin (believe) it was valuable. This was not first time for Lin to use trucks to protect his restaurant. Lin also saved his restaurant with 12 trucks during the earlier typhoon Doksuri August. He said he would do the same next typhoon comes.
After learning that Saola was gradually leaving, Lin decided to return the trucks reopen the restaurant.
