My name is Evelyn Glennie. I am a solo(独奏的) drum player. Here I'd like to talk 1 my story. When I was about 12, I 2 interested in percussion instruments(打击乐器) and began to play them. At that time I lost all of my hearing. I remember when I learned 3 the tympani (定音鼓), my teacher said," Well, you know, mu- sic is about listening. How are you going to hear the sound?"I asked," Well, how do you hear it?" He pointed to 4 ear and said,"I hear it through here." Then I told him,"I think I do, too, 5 I also hear it through my hands, my arms, my eyes, my legs and so on."I mean that I 6 feel the music, see it and touch it. That's why I can experience every kind of music, from classical to pop, even though I can't actually hear it.

Now I 7 ' invited to travel around the world for concerts. I like to go to other people's concerts in different countries. I also like to find new instruments. Now I have 8 instruments. They often remind (提醒) me of how excited I was when I first saw local musicians playing them. These experience was such 9 beautiful memory to me. And10 thing is that every time I play instruments, I really enjoy my time with music.

Some people like to live in small towns, while others choose to live in big cities. Which place would you like to live in?

I enjoy the life in a small town. Why do I 1 a small town? There are some rea- sons. I like quiet life. A small town is the best place for living quietly and 2 . And I'm able to enjoy the 3 air. The most comfortable thing for me is that I can hear the 4 of birds every morning when I wake up.

It's easy to go anywhere 5 different places are not far from each other. For exam- ple, when I want to go to the supermarket, I don't have to drive there. It is 6 my house. By the way, of all the supermarkets, I like Convenient Life best. It has the chea- pest food, and that makes me 7 much money.

RSVP is short for the French word"répondez s'il vous plait", which means" please re- ply". RSVPing to an event like a birthday party is important. It can help the host know how many people will come to the event and so he or she can make a successful plan for it. The host needs to buy food and drinks, or sometimes spend money booking a nice place. It must take the host a lot of time and hard work to plan the event. So, making an RSVP can be very helpful.

If you get an invitation asking for an RSVP, please tell your host if you can go to the e- vent or not as soon as possible. It takes your host some time to invite you. You should also spend some time replying.

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain. The city  a long and interesting history. Even today it's still one of the most important cities  the world.

Barcelona is home to many great  . The parks are great places for people to have. If you are tired of the noisy streets, you may come to the parks to enjoy being  and relaxed. Barcelona is always trying hard to make its parks good places for its citizens(市民)  visitors to enjoy themselves. In fact, the urban(城市的) parks alone in Barcelona take up nearly 10% of the city area.

Over the past few years, East Asia has seen a huge rise (大幅上升) in the rate of short- sightedness (近视率). Long school days are leaving children with little time to enjoy sunshine. Too little light may cause short- sightedness.

East Asia began its economic (经济的) rise in the 1960s. After that, short- sighted- ness became common in the area. These days, however, almost every young East Asian is short- sighted. In Singapore, nine in ten school- leavers are short- sighted. In China, the rate of short- sightedness among its middle school students has risen to nearly 80 percent.

At the same time, the West isn't staying out of trouble either. One study in California, for example, found a rate of 59 percent among the state's 17 to 19- year- olds.

However, there may be worse things to meet with. Short- sightedness is a lifelong prob- lem, because people with poor eyesight are more likely to have eye problems later in life. This will probably have a bad influence on the future of a country.

Giving students more time outside can cut down the number of children who will become short- sighted. Some wise governments have decided to make sure that their kids are spend- ing more time outdoors.
