What time is it?There are many ways you can find out the time. You may have a watch on your wrist (手腕). You can look at a clock on the wall. You can listen to the radio, watch TV or ring a number on the telephone to get the time.
It has not always been easy to know the time. A long time ago people looked at the sun to tell the time. They could tell the time of the day by looking at the sun in the sky: morning, noon or afternoon.
Around the year 1400, people began to use the hourglass (沙漏). It was made of glass with some sand in it. It was wide at both ends, but narrow in the middle. The sand ran from one end to the other in one hour. At the end of every hour, People turned the glass over and began again. Hundreds of years later a machine called clock was invented.
After that people made small clocks, so that they could carry them in their pockets. Then during World War I, men started wearing their watches on their wrists. It was easier to tell the time. Now almost everyone wears a wrist watch.
Zhang Feng, a 23-year-old man from Zhengzhou, China, has developed a special kind of kungfu skill. He called it "Shaolin Sunshine Hand". It allows him to generate (产生) enough energy with his fists (拳头) to put out (熄灭) candles up to three meters away.
I used to watch those Chinese kungfu films and love seeing kungfu actors make th ings far away with their fists, but at that time I knew it was not true. However, after I watched the video, I changed my idea. The video went very popular in China recently. It showed that the young man named Zhang Feng put out 15 candles in a line three meters away with air or energy generated by his flying fists.
You may say it's not true, and you're not the only one. But the young man actually invited two reporters into his home to see his act and then film him doing it. The two reporters tried their best, but were only able to put out one of the 15 candles set 10 cm apart, and even blowing air didn't put out all the candles. Zhang Feng, on the other hand, put them all out just by throwing punches (挥拳猛击). The two reporters were in awe and couldn't explain how he did it. They said that Zhang Feng was a great Shaolin master(大师).

Isaac Newton(牛顿) was born at Woolsthorpe on 4 January 1643. His father died before he was born and in 1645 his mother remarried. After that, Isaac Newton lived with his grandmother. Newton's mother returned to Woolsthorpe in 1656 when her second husband died and Newton went to live with her again.
From the age of 12 to 14 Isaac Newton went to Grantham Grammar School. He was more interested in making mechanical devices (机械装置) than in studying. His teachers thought he was not a very smart student because he didn't do very well. In 1659 Isaac had to leave school to help his mother on the family farm. But he took no interest in running a farm and in 1660 he went to the grammar school again. In 1661 he got the chance to go to university in the end. When the university shut down(关闭) in 1666 when people caught an illness and died suddenly, he went home and continued to study on his own. He experimented about different things around him.
He discovered a force called gravity when he saw an apple fall in his garden. This force which caused the apple to fall also kept the moon in the sky around the earth. This same force also kept the planets in the sky around the sun. The apple incident led to his three basic laws of motion (运动) .
Isaac Newton died on 20 March 1727. He made great contributions (贡献) to physics, math and astronomy and is well known as one of the greatest scientists who ever lived.

Once he had a parent-teacher meeting his school but he didn't tell us about it. Later, we asked the reason, he just said he forgot to tell. And when we looked up his (result) of his monthly school tests, we found he failed in two of five of his subjects. He often complains(抱怨) of headaches in one half of his head and doesn't go to school. We asked several doctors and after having a (little) tests, doctors found nothing.
