Every year thousands of young people in England finish high school and then spend a year 1 as volunteers ( 志愿者 )before they start work or go back to school for study. Some young people even go to 2 countries to work as volunteers. Volunteers give 3 time to help people.4, they work in schools or hospitals, or they do5 for the environment.
Pauline Jones, 18, 6 in Cardiff, Wales. Next year she wants to learn Chinese in school, 7now she's living in Belize, a country in Central America. Pauline says, I'm working with other people here to save the coral reefs ( 珊瑚礁)in the sea near Belize. The reefs here are beautiful, but if the seawater 8 clean, the coral will die. I'm helping to do research to collect information on the coral and the fish that live around the reefs, All over the world, coral reefs are dying. We need to do something about the problem before it's too late.
"I'm staying with a family here and I help do some housework. I don't get any money, but that's OK. I love my work here, I work 9 with my friends here, and I'm learning a lot about the people of Belize—and myself When I finish my work, I want to stay here for three more months. Cars make our lives more convenient. But they can also be a problem. For example, fossil fuel (化石燃料) cars mainly cause air pollution.
To improve the environment, many countries are developing electric vehicles(EVs 电动车). Among them, China is taking a leading role and has created the world's largest EV market.
Last year, over 40% of the 753,000 EVs sold in the world were sold in China, more than twice as many as the number sold in the United States. "Filling up a fossil fuel car with gas is more expensive than charging an electric car," said Wu Hao, who bought an electric car this year
However, there are still some problems. It can be hard to find charging piles(充电桩) and the cars can't go far before needing to be recharged. Some of these problems are being solved. In 2014, China had 31,000 charging piles. Now China has the world's largest EV charging network, with more than 167,000 charging piles in total.
Developing EVs is one of many efforts that China has made to cut down pressure on its environment after the government promised to stop the increase in the emission (排放) of Coz by 2030.
"As China goes, so will the worlds car industry," The Wall Street Journal said. China has taken a leading role in the world's electric vehicle industry.
I sat down to read under an old tree in the park. I felt my life was hopeless. I didn't take an interest in anything. I thought that my whole world was dark.
A young boy ran up to me, out of breath. He stood right before me with his head down and said excitedly, "Look what I found! In his hand was a flower, and what a poor sight! The flower was dry and dead. I gave him a small smile and then turned my eyes away so that he could take his dry flower and go off to play. I didn't want to talk with him at all.
However, he sat next to my side and placed the flower to his nose and said in surprise, "It smells sweet and it's beautiful, too. That's why I picked it. Here, it's for you. "The flower before me was dead. But I knew I must accept it, or he might never leave. So I received the flower, and replied, "This is just what I want, thank you." Just then, for the first time I noticed that the boy was blind.
Tears came down my face when I thanked him for picking the best one. "You're welcome." he smiled, and then ran off to play. I sat there and wanted to know how he was able to learn about my pain (痛苦).
Through the eyes of a blind child, finally I could see the problem was not with the world. The problem was me. And for all those years I myself had been blind. In fact I never found there is always something beautiful around me in life. I decided to see the beauty in life, and enjoy every second of my life. And then I held that dry flower up to my nose and breathed the smell of a beautiful rose.

Do you often feel happy? Do you know what is happiness?
Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and lots of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads in their free time
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something good to others, you will feel happy as well. All these are your happiness. If you notice them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that you can't buy it with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you learn a lesson that never gives up and you'll succeed. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving(旋转)door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.
Therefore, we can get to know that happiness is what makes us feel good and pleased when we meet it.
