Dear Mr Wu,
How are you? Thank you for your letter asking about our hotel. Below is some information for you1your visit. Our Sunshine Hotel is at the North Pole (北极), so your home is surely2of the hotel! Come to the hotel this summer. During the summer there are 20
3of sunshine every day! To4our hotel you must leave China and go north by plane. It is a long way to the North Pole. You need a warm coat, a very warm hat, a scarf and a pair of gloves. At night it can be 30 degrees Celsius below zero! But you can play in the snow at midnight because there is still5. Our hotel has ninety floors and nine hundred rooms. Every room6a balcony and you can see the beautiful snow there. If you are lucky, you may see a bear. There is a swimming pool outside, but you7swim in it because water changes to ice at 0 degree Celsius.
This isn't a problem because everyone in the hotel8ice skating more than swimming. We give hot coffee to everyone. The coffee comes from South America. You can have a rest on the sofas in the hall if you feel9. By the way, don't come in winter because it is dark for 20 hours every day!
I hope I will see you this10.
Yours,
David
Dear Kitty,
News! We have a new flat! The rooms are small, but they are comfortable. There are more rooms here than in our old flat. This is good because now I have my own room. In the old flat, I have to share a room with my sister.
My bedroom is my favourite place in the flat. I can be alone in it. I can read or draw. I can listen to my radio or CDs. I can play games on my computer or send emails to my friends.
I also like the kitchen very much. I love helping my mother cook our meals. She is a very good cook. She is teaching me how to make many different kinds of dishes. She lived in Morocco when she was a girl, and she can cook Moroccan food. It's very delicious.
Write me soon and tell me about your home. All good wishes!
Yours,
Anna
New York is an interesting and lively city. If you come to New York for the first time, here is some information that you may find helpful.
Public transport
You can come to New York by plane. There are three airports in New York. When you arrive at one of them, you can take a bus or taxi to any place in New York. In New York there's good bus and underground service. If you are planning to take the underground a lot, you can buy an underground ticket for ten journeys because it's cheaper. Sometimes you don't have to use public transport; you can walk to many places, like the Empire State Building, Fifth Avenue and Central Park. The New York taxi is also part of the city experience, so try it even once during your stay in the city!
Hotels
There are lots of good hotels in New York. The best is The Plaza on Fifth Avenue, but you don't have to pay a lot to stay in the city. There are lots of smaller hotels and the YMCA near Central Park is great for young people.
Eating out
There are many kinds of food in New York and you needn't eat at McDonald's every day.
There are good restaurants in Little Italy and Chinatown, for example.
Shopping
Shopping in New York is fun. There are many big shops on Fifth Avenue. They are open seven days a week. But be careful when you look at the prices, because you have to pay an extra 8% tax (税) on everything you buy in New York.
Places to see
Finally, there are a lot of places to see in New York—Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, etc. You shouldn't go home without climbing the Statue of Liberty to enjoy the scenery (风景) of the city.
Takashi is 99 years old. He lives in Okinawa (冲绳县) in Japan. In Okinawa people tend to live a very long time. They are seldom ill. Many people are over 100 years old—longer than most people in other parts of the country and the world. What is their secret (秘密)?
The Okinawans eat vegetables, fruit, fish and rice. They usually have seven different kinds of fruit and vegetables every day. People don't usually drink much alcohol (酒) or smoke. They don't eat much meat or fast food.
Sports are very important for the people of Okinawa. Walking, traditional dancing, and gardening are very popular with people of all ages. More important, the people in Okinawa are seldom worried or angry and they never make themselves too busy. They are relaxed and take their time. Buses often come late, and people often arrive an hour late for meetings. Every evening hundreds of people, young and old, go to the beach to watch the beautiful sunset (日落). They talk, smile or laugh to each other.
Another important thing is that people often work until they are 80, sometimes even until 90! In the Okinawan words there is no word for "out of work". Old people don't stay at home— they go out and meet friends.
When journalists ask local people what their secret of long life span is, they always answer, "We are happy, we are always relaxed, and we are never in a hurry."
People make many different kinds of homes around the world. Weather tells us what kind of homes we need to make.
In hot places such as southern China and southern USA, the weather is warm so people can be outside most of the time. But they still need to protect (保护) themselves against sun, rain and insects (昆虫). Homes in such places need to have screens (滤网) on their windows and doors. They let the wind into the house, but keep out the insects.
In Canada, northern China and other cold places, homes need to keep out the cold and keep in the heat. These homes need thick walls. If there is a lot of snow, the roofs (屋顶) need to let the snow fall off easily. These homes cannot have flat roofs. The roofs must also be very strong so that they can hold a lot of snow.
What kind of home do you live in? Is it good for the weather you have?

There were orange trees about twenty million years ago. But the fruit were very s, not like the big ones we eat today. People think the orange trees came

Chinese artists liked drawing pof lovely oranges and orange trees.
Farmers in other parts of Asia and the world started to l to grow oranges from the Chinese. Then the Spanish (西班牙人) planted orange trees in the New World (North and South America). They took them tFlorida (佛罗里达) first. The orange is a very important fruit in Florida today.
The word "orange" is ba fruit and a colour. The colour of oranges is so beautiful that in English we use the name of the fruit for the colour.
