Millions of TripAdvisor users voted New York, Chicago, Charleston and Las Vegas as the top four travel cities in the United States.
New York City
More than 50 million people visit New York City every year. The five boroughs(行政区)-or regions of New York have some of the most easily recognized attractions in the world. Visitors whose things are tight can take a free boat from Manhattan to Staten Island for a great view of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.
Chicago, Illinois
America's third-largest city offers world-class museums, great food, sporting events and symbolic architecture-including Willis Tower, America's tallest building. But what places the Midwest city above others is comedy. It's well-known for comedy shows. The Second City theater is where many famous comedians get their start, including Mike Meyers and Tina Fey.
Charleston, South Carolina
Some say Charleston is one of the most beautiful and historic places in the United States. The coastal(沿海的)city has a very rich history. The Civil War began at its waterfront, at Fort Sumter, which visitors can explore. But present-day Charleston has a lot to offer, too. Conde Nast Traveler voted it the number one U. S. city, for its beautiful architecture, food, and friendly people.
Las Vegas, Nevada
The desert city of Las Vegas is known around the world for its casinos(娱乐场)and bright lights. Visitors stay at world-class hotels, eat at top chefs' restaurants, and usually see a spectacular show or concert.

My friends and I had just finished lunch at a hotel when it started to rain heavily. When it became lighter, I decided to get my car which was parked at my office three streets away.
My friends argued that I shouldn't go, mainly because I was seven months pregnant(怀孕的)then. I made it clear to them that I'd be very careful. One of them wanted to come with me but I insisted that she stayed with another friend who needed help with her baby.
I walked out of the hotel and started making my way to the car. At the crossing, a van stopped and a man came out with an umbrella. Before I knew what was happening, he walked right beside me and told me he'd escort(护送)me to my destination. Although I was very embarrassed and refused, he insisted that he would.
During our walk, he kept telling me to walk slower, as the ground was wet. When we got to the car-park, I thanked him and he went away. I did not get his name and may not even recognize him now. Did he purposely stop for me? I'll never know.
So how did I pay it back? I was at home when I noticed two Indian construction workers walking in the heavy rain. They were probably on their way to the working place near my home. I went out and passed them an umbrella. They were completely surprised by my action, and I told them they should take and keep it. They were very grateful to me, probably wondered why a stranger was offering such kindness. I was so relaxed and happy that day.

The animal kingdom lost a beloved friend when poachers(偷猎者)in Kenya killed the world famous elephant named Satao solely for his ivory(象牙), experts say.
Satao was considered by some to be the largest and oldest elephant left in Africa. His tusks having grown long enough to reach the ground. Wandering around Kenya's Tsavo National Park, he was easily recognizable(可辨认的)by staff and visitors. Sadly, despite conservation efforts, he was killed on May 30, his body identified by park staff on June 2. His head was severely damaged and there were two holes left where his great tusks had
“There is no doubt that Satao is dead, killed by an ivory poacher's poisoned arrow to feed the seemingly greedy demand for ivory in far off countries,” wrote Richard Moller of The Tsavo Trust. “A great life lost so that someone far away can have a trinket(饰品).
Satao isn't the first elephant—and far from the last—to pay the ivory price. Just last month, Mountain Bull, another Kenyan elephant, was killed by poachers.
Kenya Wildlife Service(KWS)says 97 elephants and 20 rhinos have been killed this year, but others say the real numbers are much higher.
The national park in which Satao lived is roughly 386 square miles—a massive land for already thinly-stretched resources to cover. Reports indicate that Satao had started to migrate towards the park's border-areas known by conservationists(野生保护人士)to be highly active for poaching.
In the late 1960s, more than 275,000 elephants lived in Kenya. Now, that number has dropped to around 38,000, and continues to fall fast.
“If Satao's death can cause the focus on what's actually happening here in terms of poaching, then he won't have died in vain,” said nature documentarian Mark Decble, according to The Dodo.

With the development of the television and the Internet, many people have changed their hobbies and the way that they enjoy their free time. Because of the television and the Internet, many people spend less time reading, so the aim of this article is to give reasons why people should read just for pleasure. The reasons that I give you are quite simple: to improve your knowledge, to have more fun, to make your imagination(想象)fly, to find new ways to express your ideas, and to have a better understanding of life.
Firstly, you can improve your knowledge when you read. There are nil kinds of good books to choose from. People who read more usually have a better idea about life than those who do not read so often.
Secondly, you can have fun and increase your imagination by reading books Children have very good imaginations, so parents need to read lots of stories that feed their imagination. Adults should try to develop their imagination by reading books that make them think amazing things.
Finally, no matter how old you are, it can help you to have a better understanding of life and express your ideas to others in a simple and correct form.
So I suggest that you read more. I know that many of us like to play on the Internet when we are free, but we must also not forget to read books. Try to choose good books in the beginning, and then I'm sure that you will never stop reading.
Why do many people play sports? You might say “to get exercise'' and you'd be right. To have fun? That's true, too. But there's more.According to the Women's Sports Foundation, girls who play sports get a lot more than just fit.
Girls who play sports do better in school. But research shows that girls who play sports do better in school than those who don't. Exercise improves learning, memory, and concentration, which can give active girls an advantage in the classroom.
Girls who play sports learn teamwork and goal-setting skills. Sports teaches valuable life skills. When you working with coaches, trainers, and teammates to win games and achieve goals, you're learning how to be successful.
Sports are good for a girl's health. In addition to being fit and maintaining a healthy weight, girls who play sports are also less likely to smoke. And later in life, girls who exercise are less likely to get breast cancer.
Girls who play sports feel better about themselves. Why? It builds confidence when you know you can practice, improve, and achieve your goals. Sports are also a feel-good activity because they help girls get in shape, maintain a healthy weight, and make new friends.
Exercise cuts the pressure. Playing sports can lessen stress and help you feel a little happier. How? Friends are another mood-lifter. And being on a team creates tight bonds between friends. It's good to know your teammates will support you—both on and off the field!

One day, during our biology class our teacher conducted a flower arrangement(插花)competition. There were five groups who 1 and the materials used are weeds, leaves and anything you can 2 in the garden.
The toughest thing about being the leader of 3 one is that we are not artistic and our vase is tall and 4 that only few of flowers can occupy. We 5 a white chrysanthemum(菊花), wild green grasses, big brown leaves and some 6.
From the start, We knew with ourselves that we will not 7 and we accepted it as well. Describing our work makes us down for it looks 8 and a little bit funny 9 to other works.
10 from our department started to judge for the 11 arrangement. We didn't have the right to be nervous for our work was obviously strange.
I was totally 12 and my classmates started laughing when our teacher 13 the group winner.
It was us.
“We have 14 and it's group one who wins.” My teacher said and smiled.
The little flower in the tiny 15 and the weird weeds won.
My teacher decorated the flowers placing our work on the teacher's table. I am 16 in shock how life can be so humorous.
What on earth is life trying to 17 me?
Who told us that weeds are 18 and simplicity(简单)is boring?
Beauty is subjective(主观的)and not objective. It varies from different people and 19 the judge.

Dear John,
How time flies! I'm very glad to hear you again. You want to know which is going on in schools in China. In the word, everything has changed. Every school take part in the campaign of reducing learning load. In the past, I used to studying until 11: 30 on weekends. But now I can arrange things of my own, such as reading books, visiting museums, or take computer lessons on weekends. In the evening I can watch news on the TV, or read newspapers. What's more, my parents support me. They think because I am a student, I don't have to study all day long. I think the idea of reducing learning load was well accepted by everyone.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua
