On Sunday, Lucy and I go to a bookshop, then we want to go to the supermarket. But we don't know the way how to get to the bookshop. We ask the policeman in the street for help. He tells us to walk along Renmin Road, and turn right at the second crossing. Then we walk and walk but we don't see the bookshop. We are too tired so we take a taxi. “Please take us to the bookshop.” We tell the taxi driver. The taxi driver laughs and says, “The bookshop is over there, you may get off now.”

    It is Saturday morning. Mrs. Black and her daughter Kate go to the bookshop near their house. Mrs. Black wants to buy some picture books for her grandson. Kate wants to buy some storybooks. In the bookshop Kate meets her old classmate, Sue. They are good friends. They talk and talk for a long time and forge to buy books. At twelve o'clock Mrs. Black finds them and asks Sue to go and have lunch in their house, Sue says: “Yes.” The two girls are very happy.

    Father's Day is a very new festival in British compared with Mother's Day, which has been a very popular festival in the UK for a long time.

    Father's Day started in America. Once there was a man called William Smith, whose wife died and he had to raise six children by himself His daughter Sonaro, thought when she grew up what her lather had done for them. So she thought that there should be a Father's Day festival. Later, the tradition was born, falling on the third Sunday every June.

    Britain took the idea of Father's Day from the USA and it has been popular since then.

    What do British people do for Father's Day?

    Well, most people would buy their fathers a card. The card would have a nice message in it saying what a great Dad their father is. Some people do buy presents as well.

    Popular gifts for Dads are probably ties, chocolates or socks because these are things that Dads can always use even if they don't want them.

    Some families might do things together to celebrate it. As a special treat, British people might give their Dad a bit of rest--make him a cup of tea, or even wash his car to make him feel really relaxed.

Cao Chong weighs the elephant

    When we want to know how much we weigh, we stand on a scale. But when something is very big, like an elephant, how do we weigh it? A long time ago, the famous warlord, Cao Cao, faced this question.

    One day, Cao Cao received an elephant as a gift. "What a big animal! How much does it weigh?" Cao Cao asked. No one could answer his question because no scale was big enough.

    Cao Cao's six-year-old son Cao Chong said, "Father, let me try!"

    Cao Chong asked a man to get the elephant onto a boat on a river. The boat went down a little, and Cao Chong marked the water level on the boat.  He then asked some strong men to put rocks on the boat.  When the water reached the mark, Cao Chong said, "Stop!"

    "Let's weigh these rocks, and add their weights together. Then we'll know the weight of the elephant," said Cao Chong.

    Finally, they found out the weight of the elephant. Cao Cao was very happy.

    Jenny has a big family. There are six people in her family. They are her parents, grandparents, sister and herself. Her grandfather sometimes reads newspapers in the sofa. Her grandmother always cooks nice food. Her father is a doctor. He often helps sick people. He likes making model ships. Her mother is an Art teacher. She can play the violin. Jenny's sister is a student. She likes drawing picture. What a happy family!

    John's family was very poor. He had three brothers and four sisters. Their parents loved them very much. When he finished middle school, he got a special present from his father. "Many friends got new clothes. Someone got cars as presents, John said. "I ran home and asked my father what present could get. Father got something out of his pocket. Then he gave it to me. It was a coin!"

    "I felt very sad." Father said to me, "Buy a newspaper with the coin, read it carefully and find a job for yourself. Go to the world. The world is yours now." I always think it was a joke. I was unhappy for a long time. Many years later, after I became the manager of a big computer company, I understand my father. My friends got just clothes or even cars. I got the world. It was the best present.
