My parents are busy with their work every day. You can't see there is love 1 them. They don't act in the romantic（浪漫的）2that I read in books or I see on TV.

One day, while Mom was sewing(缝) a quilt，I 3 beside her. "Mom, I have a question," I said after a while.

"What?" she asked.

"Is there love between you and Dad?" I asked her in a very low voice.

    She stopped sewing and 4 her head. Then she bowed her head and went on sewing.

I thought I had hurt her. At last I heard my mother say， "Susan, look at this thread（线）. Sometimes it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt. It makes the quilt5. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen, but it's 6 there."

    I couldn't understand her 7 the next spring. My father suddenly got sick. Mom had to stay with him in the hospital for a month.

    Long long ago, there was a swan（天鹅） with golden feathers（金羽毛）. She lived in a lake. A woman lived in a small house1the lake with her two daughters. They were very poor. They worked hard all year round, 2 still, they lived a hard life and sometimes they even didn't have enough3to buy food.

    The swan was4to see that. She said to herself, "I'll give one of my5to them each day, then they can live a happy life with the money selling my feathers." That evening, she6to the poor woman's house and left a golden feather on the table without saying7. From then on, the swam came every day and gave them a feather. The woman was very happy because their life was much8 than before.

    But day after day, the woman became greedy（贪婪）. She said to her9."The swan may fly away one day. If so, we will be poor again. We should take all10feathers when she comes next time."

    "Oh, no, Mom!" cried the daughters, "This will11the swan. She helps us a lot!" But the mother wouldn't listen. When the12came as usual, the mother caught her and took all her feathers. But suddenly, the golden feathers13chicken feathers. Then, the Golden Swan said, "Poor Woman, I came to14you, but you wanted to kill me. Now, I am leaving and will15come back. Never be greedy!" With these words, the swan flew away.

    Several months ago, a couple with a little girl moved in next door to me. The girl seemed too quiet to make any noise, while the parents were always 1her loudly. Whenever we met my new neighbors, I always spoke, but the only 2 I ever got was a hello from the 4-year-old girl.

    I usually go out for breakfast and one day when I returned, they were just coming from their home and the little girl was holding the door open for others. I stayed in the car doing unnecessary things as I wasn't in a 3. The parents were telling her to get into the car immediately. I looked up and saw the little girl was still holding the door open, waiting for me.

As a disabled man, I can't hurry at 4, but I hurried as much as I could and thanked her. She was smiling like a lovely angel. I was so 5 by her small act of kindness. That afternoon I was shopping and I saw a white bear. I thought of the girl and said to myself. "I believe she would like that" so I bought it.

    The next day there was a knock on the door and it was the little girl and her parents. She was so 6of her bear and thanked me as if I had never been thanked before. The mother and father both thanked me. 

    Now when we meet, we all speak, and in a friendly manner I might add. As time passes, I don't hear that shouting as often.7, hardly at all.

    Last night we had about four inches of snow. I looked out at my car and wondered 8 I was going to keep my doctor's appointment(约会). When I opened the outside door, there was my car with all the snow cleaned. I can't express how I felt at that moment. The man next door was the only person I knew in the whole building,9when I saw him the next day, I asked him if he was the good man that cleaned my snow. He said No. He wanted to but his wife said she wanted to do it.

    Isn't it amazing that a 4-year-old girl can change so many things for the better? It is said that good things usually come from 10.

    It's 7: 00 on Sunday morning. Some students are in the post office. They are1 a letter to their good friend Jeff now. He is a 13­year­old English boy. He wishes(希望) to come to China and have a good time here, 2 he doesn't know where the place is. These students write this letter to tell him.

Then he put the arm in a cast(石膏铸件). Tony couldn't move it at all. "You must keep your arm in a cast for six weeks, "the doctor said. At the end of six weeks Tony went back to the hospital.
