On Mother's Day, after my children arrived home from school, the doorbell 1 . I went to answer it, and there stood two clean-faced, tall, smiling2 .     Last Sunday, we had a class trip to enjoy ourselves. Our head teacher took us to the beach for a 1. When we arrived there at 9:00 a. m. by bus, we heard a big  2. Week by week her list became 1： I was very short, and I wasn't a good student, I talked too much, and so on. I tried to stand（忍受）all of these as long as I could. 2, I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears(眼泪) in my eyes.

    He listened to me quietly, and then asked, "Are the things that she said true or not? Jane, have you ever 3 what you're really like? Now you have that girl's ideas. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are 4. Pay no attention to(别在意) the other things that she said."

    I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I found that about half of the things were true. Some of them I couldn't 5, like being very short, but a good number of them I could. I wanted to change the bad things in me, and for the 6 time I knew something about myself in a very clear way.

    I brought the list back to my father. He refused to take it. "That's just for you," he said, "You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself, but sometimes others' opinions are also important, so you 7 learn how to listen, and not just 8 your ears in anger and feel hurt（受伤害）. When something that is said about you is true, you'll find that it will be 9to you. Our world is full of people who think that they know you. Don't shut your ears. I have never had a better piece of advice in my whole life.

    Janie, the driver, tries to3the uncomfortable atmosphere by striking the match of talks. I try to listen politely, but usually I am too busy thinking about my day. On this day, however, her talk was worth 4.
