How to Be Good at Sports

    If sports are something that interests you, it stands to reason that you would want to be good at them. Here are some tips that can help you become a good player.

    Set ambitious but realistic goals. If you want to be great at sports, you need to set your aims high.

    Instead, you should take a look at what you are, and figure out where you think you would like to be. Give yourself a suitable amount of time to achieve that goal.

    Be patient. Impatient athletes tend to make poor ones. If you're not patient, you'll try to jump into advanced techniques long before you're ready. You'll feel discouraged when you don't see immediate improvement.

    Join a sports team. Most of the sports teams are free to join. If you go to school, you should go for team tryouts when they're happening.

    Accept criticism. When you play sports, you will unavoidably receive criticism, whether from a coach or other players. Are they angry because you missed a pass, or do they sincerely want to help you improve? In a lot of cases, you can use criticism as motivation to get better.

    A skill become mastered when you're able to do it without thinking. Given enough time and practice, a skill will eventually fall under this category. When in a game, you won't have time to think everything through, so practice until it's all automatic.

A. Skills are often slow to build.

B. This does not mean being unrealistic.

C. You need to take most of it with a grain of salt.

D. Practice until your skills become second nature.

E. You also need to be clear about what you are good at.

F. If you're not in school, you can find a sports club online.

G. An important reason people join sports teams is to make friends.

    To be more grateful (感恩的) in life means that you are also allowing yourself to be happier and more satisfied with everything that has been going on around you. But with all the stress, all the disappointments and all the anxiety around you. I bet you ask yourself this question all the time: “How exactly can I be more grateful with my life?”{#blank#}1{#/blank#}.

    ⒈ Learn to live in the moment.

    Life is a wonderful adventure full of enriching experiences and endless possibilities. Don't just go through the motions of (走过场) repetitive(重复乏味的) activities and boring tasks. No! Being a mindless zombie (行尸走肉) can make you more likely to take things for granted (对……不予重视).{#blank#}2{#/blank#}, make an effort to enjoy the experience.

    You're supposed to attend a conference? Absorb it. Babysit your niece? Enjoy the moment. Eat a 15-minute lunch? Taste each bite.

    ⒉{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Being aware of your goal to be more grateful can help you look for things to be really more grateful for. Gratitude is a conscious decision. You have to practice it consistently (持续的,始终如一地).

    ⒊ Control your thoughts.

    Of course you have the power to control what you're thinking of! Consider this exercise, for example: if you find yourself thinking more and more self-entitled (自我为中心), stop.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. You are given consciousness (意识). Make use of it wisely.

    ⒋Always resist the temptation (诱惑) of comparing yourself with other people.

    As humans, we have the natural tendency (倾向、偏好)to compare ourselves with others with the hope of attaining satisfaction. Actually, this kind of activity does not help you feel to be more grateful in life.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}! You will always be meeting someone richer, which makes you fed inferior (下等的) to others!

    Don't do it, please.

    Every little thing counts. You have the ability to make yourself feel to be more grateful in your life.

A. Appreciate what you had in the past

B. And if you find yourself repeating negative (消极的) junk, stop

C. It does the opposite

D. Express gratitude all the time

E. Well, the following are some tips to help you with this particular concern (忧虑)

F. Instead of doing something just for the sake of (为了) doing it

G. Words that stress you and make you feel worthless should definitely be removed

    Since the day of its birth, the United Nations has been the subject of much debate.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Others think that it is too weak. We can better understand this debate if we learn more about the U.N. and its history.

    The U.N. was started for two reasons. First, when the idea was born, people all over the world were tired of war. They felt that there must be peaceful answers to the world's problems.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    The second reason was that modern science had developed new bombs and airplanes.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}National borders were beginning to lose their meaning. Science would develop even more dangerous weapons in the future. Only an international organization would be able to control modern science.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt, U.S. President at the time, believed that the Allies (联盟) should plan for peace before the war ended. On December 1, 1943, Roosevelt, Britain's Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin from Soviet Union agreed to start an organization for world peace.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    During the next year and a half, the idea of such an organization was debated around the world. Then came the big day. On April 11, 1945, the first international meeting of the United Nations took place in San Francisco. The goal of the meeting was to write the U.N. Charter (宪章). All of the fifty-one nations at the meeting had their own ideas to offer for the Charter.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Every nation present voted for the Charter. No one voted against it.

    Are you happy with your appearance? Some teenagers are not.

    “Almost all the girls with single-fold eyelids (单眼皮)in our class have had double eyelid operations, Zeng, a Senior 2 student from Chengdu, told the Xinhua News Agency. Zeng had the same surgery done this summer. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    From popular photo-editing apps to plastic surgery(整容),it seems that large eyes, pale skin and a skinny body are the only standard for beauty these days. But can following this standard really make us feel good about ourselves?

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} According to Huxiu News, over six in 10 girls choose not to take part in certain daily activities, such as attending school, because they feel bad about their looks. As much as 31 percent of girls avoid speaking up in class because they worry that others will notice their looks.

    Boys don't usually talk about body image problems as much as girls,but that doesn't mean they don't have them. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} But parents and doctors may overlook them, even if they notice such problems in girls.

    Many teenagers are upset about their appearance because they believe in unrealistic standards of beauty, experts say. Perfect faces and bodies are everywhere in advertising, TV shows and social media.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    However, trying to live up to strict standards can make us feel anxious. What troubles us is not just our “imperfect” looks, but the fact that we criticize ourselves so harshly.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Plus-size(大号的)models are being featured in some fashion shows. All of us should be just as confident as they are.

A. All the girls worry about their looks

B. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes

C. Image problems are common in the world

D. Body image anxiety is common among girls

E. Boys can struggle with body anxiety as well

F. She and many of her classmates believe bigger eyes look more beautiful

G. Seeing all these things can make anyone believe that they're too fat or too short

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

A. And they lost people's respect as a result.

B. Of course, it is important to use proper humor at work.

C. Everyone agreed that their work needed to be more fun.

D. There are plenty of ways to bring humor into the workplace.

E. So take a moment to laugh and help us all to feel happier at work.

F. In addition, laughter can brighten up the feelings of everyone around.

G. The most obvious way to make your job fun is to learn to find some humor.

    The sense of humor is one of the most powerful tools you have for getting rid of any source of stress in your life. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} We can't over-estimate the importance of the sense of humor too much. In fact, making work fun helps employees perform best and provide quality work.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Telling jokes and stories and using team-building games in companies make people have more fun at work. Some companies even have talent shows or hold dance or sports competitions. It just gives employees a break in the day and a chance to laugh at themselves.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Humor should be about laughing with rather than laughing at others. We all have probably heard jokes that seemed to bother or hurt others. For example, jokes making fun of employees for their weight, race, religion, etc. are not only harmful to the person, but also can create an unfriendly working environment.

    Even if the jokes were intended to be humorous, they may not be received that way. I have even heard speakers make slight dirty jokes on the audience, thinking they would be seen as cool. In fact the audience thought the speakers had no taste. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} In another case, I heard about a manager who was out partying with co-workers and kidding about how the boss liked certain people more than others. Such jokes actually had damaging effects on people in the company.

    Humor, if proper, can brighten up the workplace and reduce some of the stress we are all experiencing. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
