Last year, my brother and I went to Miami for a vacation. Some of my friends who had been there before said {#blank#}1{#/blank#} was a wonderful holiday destination. Before we went, we had planned for months. When the day came, we were ready.

    After our plane landed, we went to the hotel. We had made our {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (reserve) six months earlier, but the man at the front desk said there had been a mistake. We {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (tell) that our rooms hadn't been reserved for that week, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} for the week after. I didn't understand {#blank#}5{#/blank#} this would happen and my credit card had already been charged {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the booking. What's worse, the hotel had been fully booked. When we were wondering what to do, the manager came out. She was {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (surprise) helpful. She {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (apology) for the mistake and gave us a spare VIP room on the top floor. We had never stayed in such an amazing room, and we weren't charged extra.

    The next day, my brother and I went to the beach {#blank#}9{#/blank#} we watched some people play volleyball. We got a little {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (sunburn)，but the day had been so relaxing that we didn't mind.

    The world-known Silk Road across the Eurasian Continent is a friendship bridge{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (link) the Europe and Asian people. It is one of the most important theme tourist routes in the world and the most{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(value) tourist product in China. From the time Zhang Qian{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(open) up the world-famous Silk Road during the Han Dynasty, until the collapse of the Yuan Dynasty, it enjoyed {#blank#}4{#/blank#} history of about 1,600 years.

    Silk Road with{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(it) 2,000 years history has witnessed the historical changes and the progress of cultures {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(exchange) between China and the Western countries. The section in China, many ethnic cultures{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (include), is also as a jade belt. The peoples of these ethnic groups such as Mongolians, Huis, Uygurs, Hazaks have maintained their unique traditions and cultures, living habits and religious beliefs{#blank#}8{#/blank#} are from the soul of the Silk Road and attract many tourists to visit. In fact{#blank#}9{#/blank#}the Silk Road in the northwest of China, there are another two trade roads in the southwest of China and by sea, which also contribute{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (great) to the development of the world. They are called the “Southern Silk Road” and the “Silk Road on the Sea”.

    Take a book; leave a book. When you walk on the streets of Germany, you feel you {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(surround) by books. In Germany, public bookshelves are lined across {#blank#}2{#/blank#} nation on street corners, city squares and supermarkets.

    In the free-for-all {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(library), people can take whatever they want to read, and leave behind anything they want for {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(other). There's no need to register, no due date, and you can take or give as many as you want. This project is aimed at everyone who likes to read—without regard to age or education. It is open for {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Each shelf holds around 200 books and it takes about six weeks for a complete turnover, with all the old titles {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(replace) by new ones. The public book shelves are usually cared for by local volunteer groups.

    Germans think they should make {#blank#}7{#/blank#} easy for everyone to enjoy {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(read) in this “reading culture on the street”—from old readers to kids. While most of the shelves have so far been put up in rich neighbourhoods, they are {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(plan) to put up future shelves in poor neighbourhoods, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}people often don't have easy access to literature.

    In the past hundred years, there {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be)frequent natural disasters worldwide, such as floods, droughts, typhoons, earthquakes, landslides, forest fires, of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} some are made worse or even caused by human activities. More and more evidence suggests that nature is paying us {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Take Typhoon Mangkhut（山竹）for example. In September, 2018, heavy downpours {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (strike)China, causing scores of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(die)and severe damage after {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(hit) the Philippines and Hong Kong.

    The horrible Typhoon have left us deep in thought. We should take measures {#blank#}7{#/blank#} it's too late. More importantly, much more efforts should be made {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (protect) our environment. We should keep in mind that destroying environment means destroying {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (we).We human beings are supposed to live {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (harmonious)with nature.

    Access to electricity has always been limited for people living in Nuevo Saposoa, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}remote village in Peru. However, things went from bad to {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(bad)in March 2015 after a flood damaged the power station in the area. The villagers {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(force)to turn to kerosene(煤油)lamps, which are not only expensive but give off poisonous matter.

    Fortunately, the researchers and students at the UTEC in Lima, Peru heard about it and came up with a {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(create)idea. They designed a lamp that can be powered by plants and soil, both of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}can be found in the Amazonian rainforests where the village {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(lie). Called Plantalamparas, the lights draws energy from a plant {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(grow)in the rainforests and uses it to light up an LED bulb. So far, the bulbs have been a huge success.

    This is not the first time the students and professors of UTEC {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(come)up with a clever approach {#blank#}9{#/blank#}a problem. In 2014, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(deal)with Peru's severe air pollution they created a large advertising board that could be used as an air purifier(净化器)as well.
