We can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. But most mistakes are about people. Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen? When I got that great job, did Jim really feel good about it, as a friend? Or did he envy my luck? And Paul-why didn't pick up that he was friendly just because I had a car? When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad. But when we look back, it's too late.

Why do we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don't really listen we miss the feeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you. You're a lucky dog. That's being friendly. But lucky dog? There's a bit of envy in those words. Maybe he doesn't see it himself. But bringing in the dog bit puts you down a little. What he may be saying is that doesn't think you deserve your luck.

Just think of all the things you have to be thankful for another noise that says one thing and means another. It could mean that the speaker is trying to get you to see your problem as part of your life as a whole. But is he? Wrapped up in this phrase is the thought that your problem isn't important. It's telling you to think of all the starving people in the world when you haven't got a date for Saturday night.

How can you tell the real meaning behind someone's words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says agree with the tone of voice? His posture(姿态)? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people to you may save another mistake.

I was a bit of a bookworm as a child. For car journey, day trip or family holiday, many books were always packed to keep me busy.Since then,I've continued reading all kinds of books but I'll always love my childhood favorites.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-timer—Mark Haddon

This children's mystery novel is interesting,exciting,thought-provoking(发人深省的),sad and happy all at the same time. The main character is a 15-year-old boy who has autism(自闭症). The book gives you a window into his world, his thoughts, his hopes and his dreams. It's easy to read and both kids and adults love it.A must-read in my opinion.

    Secret Seven—Enid Blyton

If you love adventures, this one is for you.The Secret Seven are a group of child detectives who make it their duty to solve crimes. They have many adventures along the way. It's a fun book that you won't want to stop reading. And in fact, there is more than.one book. There's a series of books about the Secret Seven's adventures so if you like the first one, you're in luck.

    Matilda—Roald Dahl

It's now a film and show at the theatre, but we can't forget the original book.Matilda is about a loveable little girl who is very clever and, like me,loves to read. She goes to school and meets the very scary Miss Trunchbull who tortures(折磨)children, but thankfully makes friends with a kind teacher. The book will have you crying one, moment and laughing the next.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe—C.S.Lewis

As a kid I read the book, watched the film and listened to the tape.I really couldn't get enough of the book. It's an exciting story set in a magical land called Narnia. When you're reading it, you'll feel like you're really there. You'll get caught up in the adventures of the four children and the characters they meet.I can't rate it highly enough.

For as long as we've known about it, humans have searched for a cure for cancer. Across the world, countless amounts of time and money have been spend on researching a way to stop the terrible disease.

But now, it seems like the answer could have been inside our own bodies the whole time.

Recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US, a government agency that's responsible for healthcare, approved a new form of gene therapy that could mean the end of a certain type of cancer.

The therapy allows scientists to 'train” the immune cells of sick patients to fight leukemia – a blood cancer that mostly affects young people.

The exciting new treatment works by removing healthy immune cells from the patient, known as T-cells, which are then altered to be able to “hunt down” cancer cells.

The cells are then put back into the patient, before they begin to get rid of the patient's leukemia over time, similar to how the body fights off other illnesses.

'this is truly an exciting new day for cancer patients,” Louis J. DeGennaro, president of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, said in a news release. Up until now, a drawn-out (持续很久时间的)and painful bone marrow transplant was the only option for many leukemia patients.

In this procedure, healthy blood cells are taken from a donor and placed into the sick patient, who also has to go through chemotherapy to allow their body to adjust to the new cells.

But with a recovery rate of around 83 percent–according to a news release published by the FDA–it's hoped that the days of painful trips to the hospital, or even death, are over for leukemia sufferers.

“We're entering a new frontier in medical innovation with the ability to reprogram a patient's own cells to attack a deadly cancer,” FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in the release.

“New technologies such as gene and cell therapies hold the potential to transform medicine and... our ability to treat and even cure many intractable(难治的) illnesses.”

India has many festivals, with some celebrations that last for weeks. However, none of them come even close to Holi, India's most colorful and fun festival. Celebrated on the day following the full moon, this year's festival happens to be on March 19th.

As with most Indian festivals, this one also has many different folk stories. Most of them center around the success of good over evil. The most popular one is about a king, who hates his son Prahlada for loving the creator of the Universe-Lord Vishnu. When every attempt to stop him fails, his sister, Holika believed to be immune (免疫的) to fire, joins in the effort by inviting the young boy to sit with her inside a huge fire. Helped by the power of Lord Vishnu, Prahlada escapes safely, while the evil Holika is burned to death. To remember this event, huge outdoor fires are lit in the night before Holi in order to clean the air of evil spirits and to celebrate the death of the evil.

So what's so great about this day? While there are some fun parades (游行) and folk songs and dance performances, the most fun of all is walking to the streets and splashing (泼洒) people with water guns and dry colors and even covering them with entire buckets of colored water. On this day, everybody is fair game, no matter how old or how young.

At about midday, the splashing comes to an end and people living close to oceans or rivers usually take a bath in the water to clean themselves before going home to a delicious homemade big dinner and a welldeserved short sleep, following this full day of fun and activities.
