①When it comes to Chinese students thinking about studying in foreign countries, many of them usually believe that life will be easy and enjoyable. Unluckily, it seems that students with those beliefs will be disappointed very soon after landing at the airport.

②So, what are the problems you may have, and how can you deal with them?

③Teaching and learning styles in America are very different from those in China, in need of more critical thinking(批判性思维)and teamwork. In most American classrooms, they do activities in a study group in which every person has their own responsibility(责任).

④So don't worry about your language or any grammar mistakes. Just watch what other students do, and don't be afraid to ask any questions. The discussions, or sometimes even arguments, that your group members and you hold, are probably to be the beginning of a friendship.

⑤Besides schoolwork, another important thing faced by overseas students is homesickness or loneliness. You may miss your parents cooking, your pets, or even your old bed. Being away from home can create bad feelings, especially when faced with the problems of getting used to a new environment.

⑥What I strongly suggest is to try hard to deal with these feelings. Be open to new friend-ships. Be active in school activities, and allow yourself to enjoy life at school, even if you miss home a lot. Keep a diary to check your progress. Write down three new things that you're thankful for every evening, as well as three things you're looking forward to every morning.

⑦Studying aboard is never simple. In fact, there will be many difficulties every day. But I'm sure you will overcome your difficulties and make your time overseas a success.

Have you ever been in a meeting while someone was making a speech and realized suddenly that your mind was a million miles away? You probably felt sorry and decided to pay attention and never have daydreaming again. Most of us have been told from earliest school days that daydreaming is a waste of time.
L. Giambra, a psychologist(心理学家), says,” On the contrary , daydreaming is quite necessary. Without it, the mind couldn't do all the thinking that it has to do during a normal day. You can't possibly do all your thinking with a conscious (神志清醒的)mind. Instead, your unconscious mind is working out problems all the time. Daydreaming may be one way that the unconscious and conscious states (状态)of mind have silent conversations .”
Early psychologists paid no attention to the importance of daydreams or even thought they were harmful. At one time people thought that some psychological illness caused day dreaming. They did not have a better understanding of daydreams until the late 1980s. Eric Klinges, a professor, is the writer of the book Daydreaming. Klinges says, “We know now that daydreaming is one of the main ways that we organize our lives, learn from our experiences, and plan for our futures. Daydreams really are a window on the things that we fear and the things we long for (渴望) in life.”
Daydreams are usually very simple and direct(直接), quite unlike sleep dreams. Sleep dreams may be hard to understand. It's easier to get a deep understanding of your life by paying close attention to your daydreams than by trying to examine (分析)your sleep dreams carefully. Daydreams help you know the difficult situations(情况)in your life and found out a possible way of dealing with them.
Daydreams cannot be predicted(预言): they move off in unexpected directions which may be creative and full of useful ideas. For many famous artists and scientists, daydreams were and are a main source of creative energy.

Diaoyu Dao and its affiliated (附属) islands, which consist of(由…组成)Diaoyu Dao, Huangwei Yu, Chiwei Yu, Nanxiao Dao, Beixiao Dao, Nan Yu, Bei Yu, Fei Yu and other islands, are in the northeast of China's Taiwan Island, in the waters between 123°20'-124°40'E (东经) and 25°40'-26°00'N (北纬). They belong to the Taiwan Island. The total area of these islands is about 5.69 square kilometers.
Diaoyu Dao, in the western tip of the area, covers an area of about 3.91 square kilometers and is the largest island in the area. The highest part on the island stands 362 meters above the sea level. Huangwei Yu, which is about 27 kilometers to the northeast of Diaoyu Dao, is the second largest island in the area, with a total area of about 0.91 square kilometers and a highest height of 117 meters. Chiwei Yu, about 110 kilometers to the northeast of Diaoyu Dao, is the easternmost island in the area. It covers an area of about 0.065 square kilometers and stands 75 meters above the sea level.
Ancient ancestors (远古祖先) in China first discovered and named Diaoyu Dao through their fishing activities on the sea. In China's historical books, Diaoyu Dao is also called Diaoyu Yu or Diaoyu Tai. The earliest historical record of the names of Diaoyu Dao, Chiwei Yu and other places can be found in the book Voyage with a Tail Wind published in 1403. It shows that China had already discovered and named Diaoyu Dao by the 14th and 15th centuries.
These historical reports clearly show that Diaoyu Dao and Chiwei Yu belong to China. The sea waters around Diaoyu Dao is traditionally(传统)Chinese fishing ground. Chinese fishermen have been involved in fishing activities in these waters for generations(世代).

Many people go to different countries and live in different places in their lifetime. In different countries, they may meet with different manners. Sometimes they are puzzled by the different manners, and perhaps they may make a joke about those manners. So when we go to a strange country, we should pay attention to something new or dissimilar. For example, most Westerners are not concerned about protocol(礼仪) in social matters. But there are a few table manners the Easterners should try to observe(遵守)at all times.

To start with, put the napkin on your lap. It protects your clothes from food or is used to wipe your hands or mouth when necessary.

Hold the knife in your right hand and the fork in your left hand, and cut the meat or fish into pieces as you eat. Always use your fork to put food into your mouth. Use your spoon only for soup or other liquids.

Do not put your own utensils (fork, knife, spoon) into the serving bowl. Use the utensil in the bowl to put some of the food on your own plate. And then return the serving utensil to the bowl.

Do not spit food anywhere. If you have hones in your mouth, take them out with your fingers and place them on the edge of your plate, never on the table or floor.

Do not reach across the table or in front of another person. Ask someone to pass whatever you want.

Do not sneeze, cough or blow your nose anywhere except into a handkerchief or Kleenex (纸巾). Then you throw it into a waste paper basket or garbage can. If you cough, try to cover your mouth with your hand.
