    Films provide more than just entertainment.Watching foreign language films is a way to develop language skills.While watching a film,you are immersed(沉浸)in the language and can pick up new expressions that you might not find in a textbook.Some difficulties can arise when watching foreign language films-for example,unfamiliar colloquial language or strong regional accents.With this in mind,here are my tips to help you make progress in English learning while enjoying the films.

    Choose a film type that you enjoy.

    If you like action films,watch an action film-for example Indiana Jones.If you prefer comedies,watch a comedy-anything with Hugh Grant in always provides a laugh!It's simple enough,but if you choose something you enjoy watching in your native language,you're more likely to enjoy it in English.

    Choose something that you are familiar with.

    It's best to start off with something simple because in this way you have a higher chance of understanding the film.Disney films such as The Lion King,or the more recently released Tangled,are classic examples.Other cartoons such as Rango and The Lego Movie are also worth a watch.

    If you need to,use subtitles(字幕).

    Subtitles are very helpful for beginners.using subtitles in your own language is the easiest choice,but for more advanced learners why not consider using English subtitles?This way,you can match the written subtitles to the words spoken on .screen.It helps you to develop your language further.

    I hope you find these tips useful-if you want to recommend a film to other users,feel free to use the comments section!

    Helen has always been interested in helping her community (社区). Her first volunteer experience was for the American Red Cross when she was in high school. When she was a school teacher, she also found time to volunteer.

    After she retired (退休), she started volunteering to help the old. When her father was older, he was not able to see as well as he used to, which made her sad because he had always enjoyed reading. She decided it would be fun to read to elderly people in her community.

    She also helped one woman write her stories. Ann was almost 100 years old, and Helen wrote down information about her life when she visited her. She put the information in a book and got it published (出版), Ann was very excited to share her life story with her children and grandchildren.

    After a strong storm hit some southern cities, Helen volunteered again for the American Red Cross. She prepared food and answered phones in a care centre.

    One day Helen read an article in the newspaper about refugees (难民) who needed to learn English. She met once a week with Sahra, a 38-year-old woman from Somalia. Helen gave Sahra a camera and asked her to take pictures of her daily life. In the end, they wrote a book together and used the photos in the book. This helped Sahra learn many new words about her everyday life.

    Helen says, "The real value of my volunteer work is becoming friends with the people I help. They enrich my life as well as I enrich theirs."

下面文章中有五处需要添加小标题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合各段意思的小标题。选项中有一项是多余选项。

B. Start the things you want to do right now.

E. Don't worry! It'll probably never happen.

    I'm forty now. I left school twenty-two years ago. Here's my list of five things I hope to share with you teenagers at school.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    I always wanted to be the best, and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. There was only one problem with this. When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible. Now I compare me with myself. I ask myself if I do things as well as I could.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    How much time do you spend worrying about the future? I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear will usually never happen. They're just monsters in your own mind. Even if they happen, they will often not be as bad as you expected. In six months, you probably won't remember most of the things you worry about now.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    When I was young, I often failed to start things I expected to do because I thought they'd taken too long to finish. I always wanted to write a book, for example. But when I thought it might take me more than a year, I lost my enthusiasm(热情). It seemed such a long time. Now I know a year is nothing, if I'd started that book when I was 16, I might have written 10 more by now. I'm upset with myself for not even trying.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    As a young child you try many new things. If you fail, you try again and again until you learn. But at school you are usually encouraged to do things right. Then you stop trying new things in case you get them wrong. You are losing chances to challenge yourselves. I always remind myself: I had fallen off the bike many times before I learned to ride it.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    I hated losing when I was younger. Of course, it's nice to win sometimes and to be the best at something. But we can't all be winners all the time. Learning to lose is one of life's most important lessons. If you try your hardest, then you should never be angry with yourself.
